- Trey Mitchell (USA) and Oleksii Novikov (UKR) were two absolute powerhouses in the Log Lift at the 2022 World's Strongest Man competition in Sacramento, California.

Funny cause he didn’t say Russian, lol, announcer is Scottish like my dad, my mom’s Ukrainian, not Russian, but they live together! Like French live in Canada, called francophones, French Canadians, Russian Ukrainians as well

@@gotzvonunentberlichingen1452 of course it is insane disrespect when you call him a Russian while Russia invades his homecountry and kills hundreds of thousands. It may not be an insult for you personally, but I'm pretty sure for Novikov it is

Secondly, the Ukraine is at war with the Russian federation, not the Russian people. For all we know, Novikov may be a Russian.
I highly doubt he‘d be upset over a fumble of words in unscripted commentary. He’s the world’s friggin strongest man and his country is at war. He has other problems, actual problems.
@@gotzvonunentberlichingen1452 current estimations based on graveyard records and other sources are around 100-200k soldiers dead on either side plus tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians. Novikov stated multiple times on WSM competitions that he likes to be an ambassador to show the rest of the world Ukraine's resolve and strength, so I do believe he would not want to be mistaken for one of the invaders. I don't know where you are from, but at least in Western countries, some people see Russia/Ukraine still as brothers and the war as only "Putin's war". This is a sentiment not shared in Ukraine, the schism between those countries is huge at the moment. No Ukrainian coming from the Central/Western region would consider himself Russian and also a lot of the Eastern/Southern ones started using Ukrainian in private conversations (they spoke Russian before) because they don't want to use the language of the oppressor.
Being German myself I believe a fine comparison would be if an announcer introduced me as competing for "Nazi Germany". While this could be a genuine mistake, I'd still be very offended and would want him to correct the statement. I believe Novikov would see it the same way. Yes he and his country have other problems at the moment, but if he sees his role to represent Ukraine, then it actually is a problem if he gets mistaken for a Russian.
He says "wow rushes off to the lead"...
