India: Kerala Assembly Passes Resolution To Rename State As "Keralam" | Subscribe to Firstpost
The state legislature of India's southern state of Kerala has once again passed a resolution demanding the central government to officially change the state's name to "Keralam." The resolution, proposed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, was unanimously passed and sent for approval to the union government. A similar resolution was sent last year but was returned by the Centre due to technical changes. Kerala CM Vijayan says that the state has been called "Keralam" in their native language, Malayalam, and the demand for a united Kerala has been strong among Malayalam speakers since the national freedom struggle.
