It’s absolutely wonderful that he stood up and spoke about this, because this catastrophe needs as much attention as possible… but “recycling,” in reality, accomplishes virtually nothing. Only about 9% of the plastic products that we throw into those special blue bins and feel good about ourselves for, get legitimately re-used- and if they do get re-used, it’s as an even less recyclable product that eventually ends up in the landfills and oceans anyway. The solution is to *stop using* plastic to begin with, which will lower the *demand* for plastic and force those huge, plastic-producing corporations to provide environmentally sustainable products instead. The solution is to stop thinking it’s a waste of time to sign anti-plastics protest petitions, wash a reusable straw, or research ethical products. The solution is to recognize that although those corporations often force us to use plastic products because they make them so affordable, we also, every single person on the planet, have a responsibility to make less selfish decisions based off our growing awareness. The earth takes care of us every second. We need to take better care of her. 🌱
our ancestors for thousands of years lived in rural areas without any plastic products and breathed clean air, grew their nutritious, clean food without pesticides and didn't have their rivers, groundwater, soil and oceans polluted and didn't die from cancer with such an incredible frequency as today because of technological advancement. Why do we always find excuses and justifications for continuing single use plastics production and use? I believe the only solution to this would be banning single use plastic production and use because recycling only delays the inevitable which is plastics ending up in landfills and ecosystems
My feelings get mixed up when I saw this little boy having a speech on this pollution topic, we should really be awared of this environmental issue and encourage other to raise their awareness on this And I think reduce should come first than recycling, only that way carbon footprint can be controlled
