This song is by Blaze Foley from his amazing album called “Live at the Austin Outhouse.” The great John Prine did cover the song-and changed a couple lyrics, sadly. May they both rest in peace.
@Gr8Layks I first heard this via Prine on Fair & Square, which is why I put both their names in the title. I used the Blaze lyrics, though. Two incredible songwriters, for sure, and greatly missed.
Oh, I discovered John Prine late, after he passed away, through tribute videos from youtube friends....so I don't know many of his song, and so far only played 2: ' I remember everything' a year ago, and 'Long Monday', 10 month ago. I may play other in the futur. I love his music, lyrics, but also the person , having seen so videos about him.
