I’m a punk rocker but when my mom put this song on in the car when I was a teenager, it was my first time listening to it and I couldn’t resist the tears. This song is relevant no matter if it’s about war or discrimination or just people of power ignoring others for their own political gain.
I wish for more people like you, John. Your values, perspectives and acceptance have the power to move people to a different space without using hate. Hope... Evolution...Love...thank you.
My friend gave me this album about two months after a bad break up. I was on my way to Mississippi to help with the aftermath of Katrina. He said it's good traveling music. Oh boy did he say a mouthful there. This is (in my opinion) one of the best albums ever made. Buy any artist. I was given more than just an album. I was given a lifelong hero.
Boy was his mouthful such a mysteriously sent blessing !!! My mom forced us to sing his songs on long car rides(no music-just us) and now I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

We`ve had war and have wars and destructions in our time. As the composer and songwriter Evert Taube (swedish) said and wrote in a song : " It is war and politics which is destroying our world,"

@@tomthorpe5393 Now don't put everyone in the same catagory .. don't generalize. John Prine worked as a Maywood mailman where he'd spill ketchup in his mail truck on the Time magazines he wasn't supposed to be reading - at lunchtime. I used to work in the next town over (just about), La Grange. John only left the post office because he heard another calling and more money, in singing. Doesn't make him bad. Just smart, and he began doing some he loved. Although he said he would've stayed at the post office. he liked that too.

I read online just today about John Prine, in stable condition from this horrible Covid19 virus. I came to TH-cam to hear his music. Wow!!! With happy tears and sad tears falling down my cheeks, I listened, in awe of his music. His voice, lyrics and deep soulfulness blows me away. Praying for you Mr. Prine. You touched so many hearts, and today, I'm thankful that you touched mine. 💖 Peace and Love.
My now husband introduced me to John Prines music when we were dating 14 years ago. I loved his music immediately. His music tells a story that I think most of us have either been through, thought about or know someone who has. I just love John Prine.
Met john in the airport on the way to Nashville in 2007. Just a capital guy, small talk and respected his space, it was a honor and treat, been a fan from the early 80's . Can I recommend "John Prine; House of Strombo" to you? It was a house concert at the home of Canadian TV personality George S. ( it's about 15 letters long ) . It's a wonderful, intimate show from Christmas, 2018 ( I think ), before an audience that includes some musicians Canadians would recognize, but also includes Canada's greatest singer songwriter ( with apologies to Neil Young and Leonard Cohen ) Gordon Lightfoot.
A little late but I am sure if there is a heaven John is in it. I was fortunate enough to see John with Steve Goodman and Joan Baez many years ago. Will always remember that show.
RIP John. Thanks for providing part of the soundtrack of my childhood, and for being the kind of guy who spoke truth to power. An irreplaceable talent, a survivor, and a genius.
John puts words to the most toxic thoughts and somehow makes us calm down and deal with it, or laugh at it or be ok to go on. He was a gift from above.
John, I miss knowing you are here on earth. I get your music and understand what you wanted to convey to us. I was looking forward to seeing you at Wolf Trap this summer. Instead, I will sit here and play your music with my heart open. Teach the angels some of your pure chords.
(Rob Tannenbaum, NY Times): At seven minutes and three seconds, this track from “Fair and Square” is the longest song on any of his studio albums. A cloud of slide guitar keeps this soft waltz afloat and allows Prine to express his disapproval of, if not contempt for, so-called humans who lack empathy for others. There’s a couplet that is clearly about George W. Bush, and Prine noticed that some audience members were surprised by it. “I never tried to rub it in anybody’s face, but I thought it was pretty clear that I wasn’t a closet Republican,” he told the Houston Press.
Hey Ty, he sang this song for all of these poor people with no heart, some of them gave a thumbs down. Mr Prine will be in our hearts forever. I hope you make it out of this buddy.

I only just recently discovered John Prine's music and love it. I like listening to his music while painting in my studio. I just heard this song for the first time today, discovering more treasures as I browse youtube. Before corvid 19 came, I noticed he was planning a concert in Vancouver on June 6th, which is my wedding anniversary. I was thinking about how I would like to get tickets for the show. Sadly, covid 19 changed all our lives, all of our plans. The world has been shattered by coronavirus, so many have passed, and many more will yet. My heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones or whose loved ones are fighting for their lives, some sadly losing the battle. John Prine you are a beautiful soul, who wrote of things we can all relate to so well. Thank you for the music. My heart is with your family and friends in their devastating and tragic loss.
