  • Cape Breton is like one big family and the tourism industry is no exception to that. Every year Cape Breton Island welcomes nearly half a million visitors and at the top of most people’s list is the iconic Cabot Trail. A 298km scenic highway that follows the rocky northern shores of the island and loops around the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The tourism operators who live there are passionate people with big personalities from all over the world and this is a story about how some of those operators are changing the narrative on what it's like to live and run a business in rural Cape Breton.

Being here at this moment in South West Margaree a few houses up from the grave yard and about to drive around the Cabot Trail today and listening to this documentary makes me feel like I’m in heaven. ❤❤❤ There’s no place like Cape Breton.

I'm a Chiasson - my grandfather was born on Cheticamp Island, and my great x4 uncle, Father Fiset, built the church there. I live in Ontario...went back 'home' for the first time in 38 years in 2019. My heart is in CB. My dream and goal is to get back there for good! Thank you for doing this film. It made me cry. I wish all of those in business along the trail the very, very best!

Well done guys. I can relate to your story as us Door County locals often refer to our dead-end road peninsula as an island too. It attracts real characters too - we're always saying that if you live here then you really want to be here because its not an easy life. It's heart warming (is that the right term?) to know that others who live on an island and make their living from the tourism trade face some of the same issues and concerns that we do here.

My mom is from SW Margaree and I spent every summer there as a kid. I live in Ontario now with my wife and kids and make the trip back every couple of years. Planning to head that way again this summer. Can't wait. Loved the documentary. Really made me miss the area. Good job!

I live in Vermont and at the end of a 2-week visit to N.S. I bought a house in 2005. The Maritimes are incredible and Cape Breton is definitely the icing on the cake. However, it is the people that really make it what it is. Amazing!

Hopefully they’ll develop some awesome mountain bike trail systems. This will only draw more people and further help these businesses. Trail systems built here in BC have changed whole communities with this type of tourism. Cape Breton has endless opportunity with Mountains for this

I have lived here in cape Breton all my life, and travelled across canada, but when I come home, that's when I can relax. There is so much more to this island than tourist spots. People when they visit, should just look on the map and search the island, you will be amazed! Looking for something? Ask any caper, we will be glad to show you what, when, where and how.

Great video, and would love to use to teach my fifth graders about this part of the world, but unfortunately the small amount of profanity makes it unusable for us. If you are ever inclined, a G-rated version would get ALOT of play across the country.
