The thing about flying VOR or with GPS in a glass cockpit, a power failure, put you back in your real pilot mode. Learn to first fly the plane and all the gadgets will follow.

Its always good to have a refresher ... stay current with the systems of navigation available. Had me looking at the charts during this one.

The likelihood of the GPS system being hacked / attacked is pretty high, so this is good advice to be current using VORs.

I prefer to fly VORs over GPS

I have been flying almost fifty years and finally manage to say Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range without spitting all over the windshield, losing 500 feet, and now they want to discontinue VORs? 😖

Wish they would just keep them running, GPS is too unreliable. When it works right yeah its accurate, but when it doesn't work right it can get you in trouble if you aren't paying attention.

I know you know this…. But, why don’t you do these instrument podcasts (and others) online and through the FAAst program to reach out to many more proposed and active pilots? You would increase your mailing list and sure help out a lot of rusty pilots…. Just saying….
