Long story short: the duallist pedals suck - unless you’re this guy. El Estepario breaks the mold nearly every time he uploads. This year, he’s released several videos where he is doing something literally IMPOSSIBLE, and the paradox still haunts me to this day. This man bought the Duallist pedal - and made it sound PERFECT, using its gimmicks exactly how they should be used, which no one in the world had ever yet demonstrated up to that point. I worked at guitar center in the early 2000’s when these pedals were still pretty new. I sold dozens over the years I worked there, and ALL of them were returned - because the pedal sucks shit, to put it nicely. It’s an extremely uncomfortable, somewhat short footboard, and an awkward imbalanced spring connection, with two uncomfortable side levers to be used via heel, one on each side of the pedal (definitely not for bare foot players unless they’re brave). The foot lever on the right switches the single pedal to a sorta double pedal, and the left foot lever releases the mechanism and it reverts back to a single pedal. The problems, which are usually deal breakers, start with the springs. The left beater is always going to have a lighter impact, making the dynamics sound uneven. And the spring tension must be set juuuust right for any different tempo you wish to maintain after stepping on the right lever. And when you engage the double pedal lever, the left beater automatically strikes the bass drum head - and stays there pressed against it until you step on the pedal again, and when switching to the double beater drive, the pedal would make a nasty metallic clang sending the left beater haphazardly into the batter head, and the beater would often strike the head imperfectly and would often create an unwanted and poorly timed, choked bass drum stroke. But… Somehow, El Estepario made all of this work to his advantage, and has mastered the Duallist pedals in both two and three beater variations. It’s clear that triggers are a must but more important is just getting the timing and adjustments and movements down. And he’s incorporated it in genius ways. He’s as innovative as any of those pros he named who were pushing the creative boundaries and doing things nobody has done or even thought of doing before. Thats just one of many examples of El Estepario doing things nobody believes even when he does it right before their eyes.
