Hey guys, I’m Rabea. I'm the lead guitarist in Toska, Frog Leap & Dorje where I write music, make songs and have a great time with my mates. I dig how you never phone in a video man. You really explore the sounds. This pedal has such a wealth of subtlety in it, as well as being a single pedal "Multi-Tool"....and you explore it all with really excellent guitar playing. You make killer music Rabea!
Have had mine for three days. The 2nd OD mode doesn't sound TS to me. More natural and a bit less aggressive. Fuller in the mids doesn't automatically mean "mid hump".
Only OD I've never owned I would use "on all the time" on a clean amp. Love it so much I just ordered the DCR to go with it.

When you come from germany and don't know what to expect from a Pedal called 'DDR'😂
When you buy it you get on a list and get your pedal 20 years later.
Shaun Ashley It’s the German short for the GDR.
@Shaun Ashley After World War II Germany was split into east and west. The official name of the eastern part was 'DDR'.
The original DDR was assimilated into a Keeley "Unified" Workstation that controls the balance of power in the effected region.
@@DaveElwoodCutter Rumour has it that there was once an FDR (Filter>Drive>Reverb) but when you ordered, it never arrived or if it did, it stopped working after a few weeks. Then it would mysteriously disappear.
If you put a Dark Side in the DDR's Insert would that count as putting up a Wall between the two sides...? Oh, wait. Wrong album...
Brilliant review. Very thorough and practical outline of the tones for everyday use. Killer chops on top as usual too, so musical. If I was in the market for a pedal like this I would have bought it after watching this review. Bravo Rabea!
After my brother recommended that I look at this pedal, I will absolutely definitely be adding a DDR to my Dark Side. I was also so impressed with my Dark Side that I just bought him one, too!
i have this pedal and it's awesome but the one big thing they messed up on was not being able to use delay and reverb together with the overdrive.
Can you use delay and overdrive together?
@@manguera9 Steve Lukather, John Petrucci, John 5, Adrian Belew... I think they explore that mix. But all depends on the style you play. This review is 10/10. Santa Claus is waiting my letter for this Keeley Pedal!!!

Little disappointed that it's not styled after a Dance Dance Revolution pad. Thus far, my only disappointment with the pedal :)

When you start to noodle at 10:30 that sound is killer and has to be made into a song. It sounds very Pink Floyd inspired love that ambiant tone of progressive rock and metal.
I realy love the TONE it adds to my amp, and when stacked with my SD1 its really full,"it plays well with other
pedals:" high quality, no noise, studio quality reverb and echo. Made for Gigging for sure

Very cool. You get drive and reverb/echo before you power it up with the output section of your amp. The Keeley designers are very sharp.

Just bought this today after watching this. I bought it for the delay/reverb option but have fallen in love with the gain. I use a Spark Boost with it and get really good high gain like tones. Really nice!
I know you mostly play prog metal stuff, but man, you sound so good using Fender guitars... we need you to use them more and record material with your strats and tele!

Nice demo, Rabea! I've one arriving soon for use in a very small pedalboard... I was initially sold on seeing it in Eric Johnson's ersatz pedalboard in his interview with Rick Beato. Can't wait to try it paired! Cheers mate, Daniel

@@RobertKeeleyTV Prove me wrong Mr Keeley. Name one thing you have made that was innovative and not a re-hashed product. BTW, the DDR has been done many times before by others, so this newest pedal isn't even a new idea.
radialdrift from my first Design, the Katana Boost, there wasn’t a JFET design like it, to the programming of new sounds in the BubbleTron and Synth-1 to the Foot Gesture Control in an Ernie Ball product, I always put my stamp on a sound effect or schematic design of an effect. I do use the pieces as building blocks for my own designs. Just regular old engineering bro.

Nice pedal, nice demo. We'll have to give it some consideration. I've been playing through a BD-2 and Behringer delay (both preceded by a not oft used CS-3) for so long that I feel it's time to explore some newer options. Thanks, Bea.
Took me a while to realise the little bits to the left and right of the 'style' switch were high and low pass filter indicators! Great sounding pedal!

Well, your fine demo sold it to me. Got one coming tomorrow. I'll just pair it with my Keeley 30 Ms(30Ms -one of the finest sounding pedals you'll ever use) if I need a bit of Reverb at the same time.
Finally - the level of the demonstrators is getting up to the level of the pedals. So you can actually see and hear what they can do.

Actually, both my AC30C2 and Boogie Blue Angel have reverb that sustains that long, but yes that's a good point, you can augment the spring sound. Also I got 50s-60s Sci-Fi sounds on the Vintage verb sound; nothing like an amp. The Modern as well has great "on all the time" sounds too. Wonderful pedal.
Hey Bea, I love your pedal videos, could you possibly do the Rever from Old blood noise endeavours
into a clean amp only if reverb up front. TRS was removed from the Dark Side as nobody used it.
I was going to ask about how this would work with pedal order but the trs addition is nice to solve any issues. Can you by chance put the reverb or delay in the fx loop and keep the drive going into the front of the amp by doing this or is it solely to incorporate other pedals between the drive and reverb/delay?

Could you run another gain pedal (like a Filaments) in the TRS loop and use the drive side to boost it and then go into the wet?

Is it enough of drive volume (when plugging in fx loop) to bump up the level for lead parts as a clean boost?

More aptly named DD or R. Who approved a pedal like this that has three effects you would want on simultaneously but you can only choose two, especially when all three sound awesome? In the words of Josh Baskin, “I don’t get it.”
Because it's brilliantly simple in that it's only one or the other. In the real world your amp was a reverb or you have a reverb pedal. Use it for the delay mode. In practice with a band, playing a pedal board full of pedals, it became the core of my tone.
Robert Keeley Hey, Robert thanks for engaging. I respectfully disagree. In the real world most reverb on amps is a let down certainly in comparison to the delicious reverb in your pedal. Secondarily I can’t come up with many practical live scenarios where I wouldn’t want delay and reverb on simultaneously especially since reverb generally is an always on effect. I wouldn’t buy this pedal because I would always be miffed by the fact I couldn’t have delay and reverb on at the same time. I would constantly be searching for the hidden April fools switch that would engage the reverb. As brilliant as you and your team are this question never came up when evaluating the marketability of the pedal? The prevailing answer was, “yeah, most amps have reverb already?” I suppose the proof will be determined by how well it sells and I could end up the kid on the sideline watching everyone else playing kickball but I’m looking forward to the expanded chassis version.

The choice was, for the DSP power and sound quality we want, we can only have delay or reverb, not both. It’s not as much a limitation in my mind. I didn’t want another switch or set of knobs. So it is what it is. :-)
Robert Keeley life is full of limitations and compromises. I’m glad you rose above them and put the pedal out because it truly sounds fantastic.

It has TRS jacks so you can use that to split the drive from the wet side
I love it at the end of my drive section of the pedalboard. No need to take it apart. It sounds great with modulations after it...

No, it really would make it too wet in practice. So, it's just one or the other. In a band setting it was just perfect. Amps have reverb, so you just click on the delay mode. So easy to integrate.

A bit on the pricey side, but nothing like the seymour duncan dark sun delay/reverb pedal (at around £400)... although that is a bloody awesome pedal!
Is $179 pricey? I thought it was a smoking hot deal for a pedal we make 100% in our factory.
@@RobertKeeleyTV I would say pedals over £100 could be considered a little pricey. Also, it's £179 in the UK, so is more than $179.
Lewis Bulled ahhh yes. It is very hard for me to get many pedals in the sub £100 price range. At least at this point in time. I’m trying to make all this stuff under one roof and have it pay off big, like making pedals profitably for under a hundie!
