    Awesome liner, and proud that my great grandfather served on this ship for much of his adult life.

    The Aquitania was truly a masterpiece and this vid shows the respect it deserves. The addition of canon in D brings out the elegance the ship had. I think the Aquitania is the best Cunard ship besides QE2

    White Star:*prepares for Olympic's Maiden Voyage*
    Cunard*sees what White Star is doing*Ok,we need a ship,bigger than Olympic,and the most luxorious ship in the world.
    (1 year has passed and Titanic has her Maiden Voyage)
    Cunard:The ship is just like Olympic but with closed windows.What an easy design.

      SCUBA STEVE4568 Yes it's a shame really. How lovely it would have been to see one of these vessels in their hay day.
      Ships now a days look much different due to different purposes/ accommodation. There is simply not a need for Transatlantic liners anymore. It's all about the Cruising Industry these days, a ship of this style for that kind of job just wouldn't do. I've been on a few Cruises (Royal Caribbean) and a balcony is splendid. I do believe that it's more about passenger comfort inside the ship, and people do love their balconies, so ship designs have gotten quite awkward. Also due to how big the Industry is so they need more cabins.

    The interiors were rightly acclaimed but Aquitania's external appearance was always controversial. She had a reputation for looking boxy, something which was made worse by the unusual decision not to have a raised forecastle. It made the superstructure look too big for the hull.

    I loved this, Thank you for thinking of Aquitania, She was my favorite ship. Have you ever seen A&E's Floating Palaces? that is a great one about these ocean liners. She is the last of the survivors. I wish they have honored her and parked her as a hotel or a museum for all to come in, pay a fee or some thing to come and see her in all her glory, I would of pay to come and see Aquitania inside and out. Look at Queen Mary in Long Beach California, they parked her and made her into a hotel. Great job on the video. God bless and Happy New Year 2015.

Nowadays you can go a take a lump of wood and call it a luxury Liner.

    RMS Aquitania is really one of, if not the only one that comes close to matching the beauty the Olympic carried.

    • @doctoremil2678
      @doctoremil2678 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In terms of the exterior the Olympic is a bit better, but inside they were about even and the Aquitania was faster and bigger, so she could carry more passengers and was in general a better ship.

    • @Aelvir114
      @Aelvir114 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doctor Emil when I say compared to her, I refer to the interior. And Aquitania was built to compete as Olympic’s rival, so it makes sense Aquitania would be a bit better in those aspects. But interiors wise Olympic was always the best.

    • @Aelvir114
      @Aelvir114 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doctor Emil Plus if I remember right Aquitania’s passenger capacity dropped by at least 1000 by 1926. So Olympic had higher capacity at that point. Though her 3000+ passenger capacity was her large capacity of third class passengers but after 1926 it dropped to be around the same as first and second class. While Aquitania was slightly bigger and barely had higher tonnage than Olympic, Olympic surpassed that as her tonnage increased to 46,358 after 1913 and even further to 46,439 after 1920.

    • @Aelvir114
      @Aelvir114 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doctor Emil but in terms of capacity newer ships in the late 30s to 30s ended up beating both of them. But regardless I was never one to consider the passenger capacity that is past what’s needed to be of much importance.

    • @doctoremil2678
      @doctoremil2678 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aelvir114 I was talking about their specs when new and the passenger capacity can be important on busy routes. Also it says something about the ships' efficiency and profitability. The Aquitania was 16 metres longer, could carry hundreds of passengers more and still be faster! I'm one of those people who respect the looks, but also consider other abilities of the ship.

    • @iluvcamaros1912
      @iluvcamaros1912  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eh, not so much. She was meant to compliment them as a running mate for sure and is a quintessential Cunarder, but she's more their unique take on the Olympic-class liners. Many consider her the ultimate "floating palace" Edwardian liner. She was built by the same shipyard as the RMS LUSITANIA, so I'd imagine she'd share a bit of her technical design with her, but she was in a class of her own. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Brown_%26_Company

    Aquitania was famed for her fabulous interiors, but I'm no fan of her outward appearance. Like her sisters, she looks far too clunky and boxy in my opinion, especially her bridge, which looks too small and eventually out of place. 2:22 is the perfect comparison between her and her inspiration. Aquitania was even built to Admiralty specification, despite it not being required nor requested.

      @@alvarojoseorellana en realidad no, además el Olympic fue llamado “The Ship Magnificent” además el Aquitania pesaba 45.000 toneladas y el Olympic pesaba 46.000 toneladas. El Olympic fue equipado con un cine en primera y segunda clase, el Aquitania tenía un cine?, NO. El Aquitania tenía una cancha de squash, NO!. El Olympic fue el barco más grande del mundo y hundió un submarino en tiempos de guerra el Aquitania nunca tuvo esos logros.
      Al final de su vida el Olympic tenía un excelente estado estructural, de hecho el inspector de la cámara de comercio dijo al terminar las inspecciones de los revestimientos “El estado del casco es bueno”.
      Sin embargo al final de su vida el Aquitania estaba un un estado de deterioro tan avanzado que uno de los pianos se calló del techo de un comedor, su certificado de navegación no fue renovado debido a que el barco no cumplía con los estándares de la época por este motivo Cunard decidió retíralo en 1950.
      Así que no me digas que el Aquitania era mejor porque en realidad no lo era!.

      @@juanesmirez llamarlo viejo confiable no significa que sea más hermoso, ese sobrenombre de lo llevo debido a su desempeño en la guerra. La guerra no tiene nada que ver con el lujo.
      El Aquitania tenía un tonelaje de 45.600 toneladas de registro bruto mientras que el Olympic tenia 45.300. Esto hace al Aquitania más grande. Si bien es cierto el Aquitania no tenia un cine, en vez tenia un teatro, cosa que es mucho más elegante y de mayor clase. Adicional a esto, el teatro del Olympic estaba ubicado en el salón de primera clase (Lounge en inglés) esto hacía que un espacio muy importante de primera clase tendría que ser modificado lo cual es una falla de diseño tomando en cuenta que ese salón se construyó para socializar no para ver películas. También, la escalera principal, el lugar más lujoso y más trabajado en el Olympic tuvo que ser pintada verde ya que no pudo igualar los estándares de la época, cosa que el Aquitania no tuvo que hacer ya que desde 1914 ya sabían que el diseño del Aquitania iba a perdurar durante más tiempo que el Olympic.
      También, el Olympic fue puesto fuera de servicio tan pronto debido a la falta de servicios básicos como baños privados, esto en el Aquitania no pasó, si bien es cierto no tenia baños privados para todos los camarotes, tenia más que el Olympic, esto es un gran punto a favor del Aquitania y de nuevo, otro aspecto en el cual sobrepasa al Olympic.
      En cuanto al estado de los buques al momento de su desguace cabe recalcar que el Olympic fue desguazarlo en 1935, 15 años antes que el Aquitania. También hay que añadir que el Aquitania sirvió en 2 guerras mundiales, de ahí su estado al momento de su deshuace y en su último año de servicio. No hay punto de comparación en cuanto a los años finales de ambos buques ya que el Aquitania sirvió por un periodo más largo de tiempo y lógicamente su estado va a estar peor que el del Olympic, vuelvo y repito, 15 años de diferencia y una guerra mundial más que el Olympic.
      El Aquitania fue un buque que sobrepasó al Olympic en absolutamente todos los aspectos.
