hello my compressor just like this one keeps blowing its glass fuse has anyone had a problem like that?

Hello dennis anderson, Thank you for stopping and your support. I have not had this problem so I am just putting some ideas out. Could be a short in the wiring, if you are using an extension cord that is too long & not the right gauge that will usually trip the circuit breaker but maybe the fuse in this case. Maybe something jamming up? How long does it run & what tool are you using on it? I will pin your comment so it is seen on the top of the comments so others will see it & possibility be of help. When you find the cause let us know.
      Stay safe, Joe Z

      Did you find the problem?
Does it blow when you use enough air for it to restart and build pressure back up?
If so, I would suspect one way check valve that is supposed to keep pressure off the piston so it starts back with no pressure in the cylinder, if I am not mistaken.

I have a small 3 gallon compressor from Home Depot (about 6 years old) that stopped building pressure last week. I saw you video and took the cover off and had the same line breakage. A quick trip to Ace Hardware to purchase about a foot of copper (no aluminum in stock) tubing and two compression sleeves (total cost $3.23) and about 15 minutes of work and I am back in business. Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for this helpful video! I have the exact same model of compressor, and it failed in the exact same way. It's funny how that happens! Home Depot had the exact parts you showed, and thank you for showing the parts that you used. That makes it much easier for those of us who are unfamiliar with the details of individual plumbing parts to get the right ones. I was able to slightly round off the corners of the aluminum tube to make it fit, and with a little mechanical persuasion, it all went back together with the new fittings. It is holding pressure just great. It goes up to 100 pounds, shuts off just great, and is working like new. Thank you again!

You're welcome David. I mentioned this in a previous comment but I believe this may also be of help. If it is running & not building up pressure also check the drain on the bottom, it may have just have loosened up from being hit or may have a bad oring. Also I once had a small leak at the quick release. Let me know how your repair went.

Thank you for stopping by. If it is not the tube like this video check the simplest thing first. Is the drain valve completely closed & not leaking? Next remove the air hose, it could be leaking. Next check the quick release, sometime they leak. If all is ok you may have a gasket under the compressors head that is blown or an issue with the reed valves.
Let me know what you find.

Bayou Flats, I did not run into this problem ( yet ). I had exhaust fans that would run fine but every so often I would have to go roof top & give them a spin to get them going until I changed out the motors. I was told they had a "dead spot" & when the motor stopped on it they needed a spin to get going again. Do you have to push the reset button to get yours going? If so it may be the rectifier. It can also be the pressure switch. Not being an electrician I am giving you my best guess. Really not too much to these compressors but be careful they can still give a BIG bite.
Let me know if this was of any help & how you got it going again.

I have a similar 3gal pancake compressor that will build air, but as soon as it's at full pressure and I try to fill a car tire to 35psi, the tank pressure drops like a rock. As you know, it takes forever to reach full tank pressure again, so it can take an hour to get air into a tire. Even if I set the hose pressure to the max, it still dumps all the tank air quickly without filling the tire. Any idea what causes that?

Congrats on resolving an interesting, unusual problem. Expected you would dab soap on suspect fitting before wrenching it which would cause strain on pipe. Was unable to tell whether you loosened compression nut at the rust connector before trying to tighten rust connector.

65CSX, Thank You for watching and taking the time to comment. I did not use soap, everything was very easy to take apart. But if there is a rusted fitting hard to remove I would use a mix of 50% transmission fluid & 50% acetone that I keep on hand. If nothing is available soap could work. Thanks for the tip.

No filtering for the air aside from the small holes; best for longevity not to run it in a dusty environment.
I sprayed a bit of lube into the intake and let the pump pull it in to coat the reed valves internally, and it dropped the charge time to cut off by 20 seconds. Air tool oil should help keep the parts and tank from corroding.

My compressor starts working and builds pressure up to 150psi but sometimes during work it will not start and won't keep tank charged. Sometimes it turns on only for a few seconds then goes quiet. Sometimes I hears something that it wants to start like air going somewhere through the pipe for about 2 second and then quiets and stays like that. Fails to keep up pressure in tank when I use it. Pressure goes low as 50psi but compressor doesn't start. Then I had to open drain valve to release remaining air pressure in the tank. Disconnect it from AC power for few minutes and it starts working again build up to 150psi again. I don't hear any air leaks. What could be wrong?

    • @JOEZEP54
      @JOEZEP54  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It sounds like it has to do with the regulator/pressure switch ( maybe called something else). You may want to check the reed valves. Something could be malfunction there. When the compressor does not turn on is it after it has run for a long period filling the tank then won't come back on once the tank calls for more pressor?

I would check the easiest & often overlooked first. Check the drain valve on the bottom of the tank for leaks. Next air hose connections, fittings and regulator. Then take a look inside. @robhtp3817, Thank you for watching.
It may be something simple. Before taking it apart check all the connections, even a small leak will be an issue. Be sure to check the purge valve, there should be an O-ring or some washer there. Sometimes they go missing or just deteriorate causing a leak. My air chuck has a small leak, so when I am filing the tank I keep the air flow to it off until the tank fills. If none of this helps you may have a loose connection in the area that I show in this video. These are the usual leak locations. After only a few times used it should not be the reed valve but cannot rule it out if all else fails.
