Absolutely nothing will change if we have this core, the coach isn't going to get them up every morning, make them start on time and get them to score in the playoffs. We need big game players, get rid of the softies
That's the point of the Berube hire. The core 4 have No trade/No move contracts. Berube will make a few of them very uncomfortable. They will be asking for trades unless they play the way he want's them too.

Give Berube 3 years and he will be fired. Lindy Ruff, Patrick Roy, Brind'amour, Gallant should have been aggressively pursued instead.

Dougie Gilmor , wendel clark and Darcy Tucker type players are going to find themselves on this team next year.

The more I think about the press conference with Keith Pelley,the more I have come to believe Shanahan is on a short leash.He looked nervous and tense,I think he was told to no longer interfere with personal moves by the Gm.This hiring is the right first move,now let’s see what Treliving can do with the team makeup.

The most important decision a gm makes is his coach
If a player is no good or overpaid for his cap hit he needs a coach to tell him that away from the press and get his trade value up before it becomes a problem so gm can parlay that into a trade that the team wins
Otherwise you get players leaving and being better elsewhere
As long as we have the core “fore”, it will be a country club. Unless Berube has full control and holds them accountable and even benches them when needed

One thing is for sure our management group is certainly in alignment, I think Berube is Treliving’s guy through and through. My initial reaction was this is a perfect matrimony and could potentially achieve great things. There’s about to be a whole lot more of what we had a whole lot less of.
Treliving likes a mild manner head coach which Berube isn’t just like Darryl Sutter wasn’t. I believe Treliving had little say in Berube being hired.

Perfect fit. Sheldon Keefe just didnt have the experience dealing with this young to prime aged team in the playoffs. Berube has all that + he commands respect & accountability which is something Sheldon Keefe lost with this team during the covid shortened season if u ask me

We would have won back to back Cups in St Louis if not for Covid. We fired Berube not because he is a bad coach . Everyone From the owner to General Manager & most of the players still Love him. Our Stanley Cup window just closed. He cannot take young players & develop a cup team. But he will let you know where the problems lie. You have enough talent in Toronto but it will take a few changes that Berube wants. Get ready to play heavy & Forecheck but most importantly you have to Backcheck. No skating around waiting for the Puck, You have to take it. Good luck Toronto. Berube will Never Ever be forgotten here in St Louis. Cant wait until you come to town. It will be one of longest Standing Ovations ever Heard.
As a kid I remember Scotty and the boys in the playoffs. Glad finally St Louise won one. Long overdue.

Keefe would be wise to accept the Sharks job (lower expectations). The Devils fired Lindy Ruff and didn’t make Travis Green permanent and Keefe’s tenure will be brief.

While he's not the best of coaches, he got decent results with the 2 crappy teams he was with (the 2018-20 Rangers & the 2021-23 Sharks & both times, he coached 2 Defensemen to Norris Trophies - Adam Fox, with The Rangers & Erik Karlsson, with The Sharks). I'm not saying, that, he won, but, the facts are facts. With all due respect to GM Mike Grier, what does he expect, in the team he has in San Jose? First Places? A Stanley Cup? Sheldon Keefe, I don't think, would even give it consideration. You'd have to be very lucky to even get A Mike Yeo (no disrespect to Mike Yeo, but, he'd, at least have A Head Coach Position). @@Landis_Grant We will see what Craig Berube does with Toronto, but, I wouldn't put all of the blame on Sheldon Keefe. It's the GM that's acquiring/keeping the players. I'm not saying Treliving or Dubas are to blame, but, there's no Salary Cap Space for them to get any Decent Bottom 6 Players.

Like they say, “Show me a great Coach and I’ll show you a Great goalie”. Well, Christmas 2018/19 season the Blues were in last place, in comes Berube but more importantly Binnington. Top it off with Boumeester, and Pietrangelo. So who on the Leafs can represent those 3 players? Do the Leafs have Anyone close to those 3 players?
It’s NOT the coach. The team plays well they just need a different mix of players. Changing the coach was a huge mistake but to hire BERUBE? Dumb dumb dumb! Berube will do nothing to help this team if anything it’s going to create animosity, disgruntled players and potential players won’t want to come here. Once again BAD move.

Berube signed a carte blanche (blank cheque) with the Leafs for 4 seasons at the going rate for a head coach who had won a Stanley Cup.
