    Thanks very much Nyssa - I enjoy all your videos & look forward to seeing your prepping/ cooking etc. The sauce ingredients for the ramen look very good. It's so nice that your hard work is being appreciated by so many people, from all different places. Also that you (shopping & storage allowing) try to make particular dishes your family requests & obviously enjoy.

    When my sister goes to Costco she always buys me a cooked chicken , I find it good value for money , I use the bones for chicken and corn soup , meat for sandwiches, casseroles and bakes .

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it was great value! I think though, that I need to get my new freezer before it becomes a regular thing, just because freezing the carcasses etc for soups and stuff took up a lot of room etc :D

    Another great grocery haul prep! You really have made a lot with those rotisserie chickens. They are a lot cheaper here than a whole chicken to bake. I find myself buying them more and more .

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are definitely cheaper and I get the carcasses to work with as well, worth the bit of extra work, definitely a bit more bland than our seasoned chicken we make though lol, but just means we'll use it in diff ways! :D

    Great use of the strawberry tops. I made lemon syrup for pancakes,, it's good, but I think there was too much pith. It's slightly bitter. I boiled them up. Maybe I should just take most of the peel off and boil that instead. The cordial looked great! My nan used to make her own lemon cordial, she'd make ice blocks out of it!

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to just take the rind off and the juice, and leave the pith and flesh behind, I definitely find with the limited cooking time of a syrup that it isn't enough and you end up with that funny aftertaste, but I love lemon!

  • @frugalitystartsathome4889
    @frugalitystartsathome4889 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ooooh, I love these ones, when you still have everything to choose from when it comes to deciding what to eat…although of course, I also love the later ones when you’re pulling something out of the bag even though the choices are much more limited. I also reuse my passata bottles, generally for buttermilk after I’ve made butter from cream - I freeze it and can then just pull out a bottle as & when. I currently have leftover potatoes in the fridge, so seeing your frittata makes me think that a nice Spanish omelette might be on the menu for tonight…And it’s great also to think that the extra income from TH-cam helps you to try new things like the cooked chooks, which you might not otherwise have considered. I also buy those if I see them for a decent price, worth it because you can use every scrap (I have a dog and like you, I use the carcasses for his food after I’ve made stock) so they can be a really good buy.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they were a great buy, I think just the stock alone added onto the meat will make a big difference, because we've had issues finding bone in chicken at a decent price lately!
      Sometimes the beginning of the month is hard, tooooo many choices and tooooo much that needs using lol, sometimes I look forward to the simpler end of the month with less choice lol, sad!

    Love homemade strawberry jam. I have 5 pints in my cupboard that I made 5 years ago. I've had people tell me to throw it out but more people have said that it will last indefinitely as long as the seal isn't broken. I don't have the heart to throw it out because I will never be able to can again.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely will degrade the longer it sits, but that doesn't mean it isn't perfectly edible! and even though you're holding onto it because you can't can anymore, I'd still eat it and enjoy it! because if it does go bad, then it was wasted too :D. Make it special! :D

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most Pressure cookers cannot be used as canners, but pressure canners can be used as cookers! However, water bath canning, you don't need any special equipment! a pot large enough that you have 3-5ish cm of water above the top of the jars, put a tea towel on the bottom of the pot so the jars aren't directly on the bottom and away you go! :D

Hope everyone's doing well and your harvests are bountiful. ❤

    Hi Nyssa, I love watching your food prep videos ❤ We heavily rely on supermarket packaged food so im wanting to make more thongs from scratch like you do but its so daunting and I don't know where to start? What changes did you make when you first started shopping 6 weekly and making so many things from scratch? Thanks x

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it is important to make the changes slowly, otherwise you can get overwhelmed and find it all too hard! Finding some of the things that you regularly like to eat and ways to make it yourself is a good start, simple stuff, breading your own chicken instead of buying it pre crumbed, or making your own pizza bases (I used to make a bunch and par cook and freeze them when I lived on grid, then I could just pull it out, top it and bake it just like a store bought frozen one!). Slowly building up your 'single ingredient pantry' as you realise what is important for you to have and what you are capable of doing, because if you push too hard as I said, you'll just find it too difficult and give up, if that makes sense ?
