Hi everyone! Here's a drawing tutorial video showing how I draw skin texture. I've been using this method for a few of my recent drawings and I really wanted to share it with you. It's a fun and relaxing way to approach this type of drawing and it's helped me a lot. I really hope this video helps out in some way. Be sure to let me know what you think - and feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions for future videos. Thank you so much for the amazing support! Hope you're having an awesome day. :) -Chris
Hi , am new to realistic drawings , and i love drawing eyes but i have problems with drawing eyebrows 😅 , for ex i recently drew a watercolour eyedrawing on ma insta @daniela_nnenna (& plz dont take this wrongly ,its not a self spam ,i just want to be corrected on where i went wrong so i wont make the same mistakes next time , I will love to improve more ) so is it ok for u to do a vid on how to draw eyebrows? Btw i love ur style of drawing and its Amazing, keep it up !!! I will forever support u ❤😄!
What I like about you is that you say that we could use whatever, and you don't say, "You need Faber Castell pencils, blending sticks ONLY, and very heavy paper." I respect that. Keep doing what you do.
Thanks so much. :) I think it's really important not to worry about specific art supplies. Drawing is so fun and it's easily accessible with any paper and pencils/pens. Thanks again!
LethalChris Drawing Yes, I've noticed that some people think that it's all about the art supplies, (I used to think that myself), but it's really all about how you make do with the supplies given.
LethalChris Drawing & Carrie Bowes I think it depends partly on who or what the art is for. If you're doing a professional piece for sale or commission, naturally you use the best supplies you can manage, and price according to that and the buyer. If your art is more for fun and hobby, for yourself and friends, then premium (and premium-priced!) supplies are less important. And I've seen some videos where artists do a "cheap art supplies challenge", and do amazing things with whatever they use. It's not always what you use, but how and what you do with it.
Carrie Bowes Exactly, being a professional artist for several years, I happened upon this video and I strongly agree. There are definitely some things that will help you out, but it’s different for everyone… You can get the exact same techniques with cheap &/or homemade tools, nothing expensive, especially when you’re talking about Graphite drawings! However it does take practice…
This isn't exclusive to drawing but any creative subject......talent will ALWAYS trump materials or equipment....drawing, sculpture, music, sport etc by all means use the same stuff as your 'role models'' but if you have talent it will show regardless.....
From someone who once enjoyed drawing as a kid and can truly appreciate the skill that goes into drawing. I must admit I was just mesmerised in watching... truly amazed at the end result and am seriously contemplating starting to draw again in my 40s just as a creative release.
I’ve been struggling for a long time with trying to create drawings that have a realistic texture. You’ve shown me an easy way to achieve that. You are an amazing artist and teacher!!!!
Dude your work and paitiance is on another level..i can do this yo some effect but skip steps to get fast results and you made me see why i used to take a week to complete a picture. Now i just doodle anything to draw but now i wana do my hyper realism again with full steps not cheating for slopoy fast results.best artist ive found in 5 or 6 years..i love mark crilly aswel..
Awesome work! Your videos make me wish I had stuck with my art talents in school. 2002 or 2003 I had taken a commercial illustration class and based on that experience I decided that a career in art wasn’t for me. Not because I didn’t have talent. But because I didn’t see enough “career opportunities”. Maybe I will dust off my art supplies and give it another try. Thanks for your inspiring videos. I especially like to see your progression from 5 years ago to now!
Normally, I am very against blending with anything other than organic graphite, but you’ve shown a wonderful display of shading with the blend tool. Very well done. I’d still highly recommend not using your fingers, they tend to leave unintentionally smudges that can be hard to remove if it’s in an unwanted spot.
Great video! I only recently started attempting realism and I have to say skin tones are proving to be a pain in the ass so I truly appreciate the how-to tips. Your drawing are impressive and your eye looks incredible. Keep em coming!
I ran into this video and I was floored by your details. I'm pretty detailed, well, so I thought, until I saw this video haha! Great tutorial on skin and love your honesty that we don't need expensive tools. I tell people the same thing. It's not the tools but the artist. A masterpiece can be created even with a Crayola box on school writing paper. You have my respect 👌
At the end of your video you said, 'if you have any suggestions of what you'd like me to draw, any questions you need answering or any help at all, get in touch in the comments below'. This is exactly what people have done but you haven't got back to them. Your artwork is phenomenal and you have raw, natural talent. Please try and answer some of the questions. I'm sure it would help so many of us, I know for sure that it would help me so much. This is easily the best eye tutorial I've ever seen but it would be so much better if it had been played in real time. Take care.
Thank you sooo much! It means a lot to hear that. :) I started using this technique this year and I've been looking forward to sharing it in this video. Really hoping it helps out. Thanks again!
That was a great tutorial. I liked how you applied the technique to a real drawing example. I would like to see videos related to mindset, scheduling time to make the longer pieces of art, developing a consistent art-creation schedule etc.
Thank you I have just subscribed to your channel and I would like to thank you so much for such a great tutorial. Would appreciate a lot more of these e.g lips, hair, mouths, etc . What a great artist you are and you explain things so well. Thanks again
Chris, you're as amazing as usual. Or no. Even more amazing every single video! I love the amount of detail you're able to squish into a drawing. But I dare you, maybe you leave your comfort zone and do a full colored pencil piece? Or to make it less intimidating a monochromatic piece using supplies you have - only white and black Prismacolor colored pencil? I'd love to see that!
It's cool that you make tutorial videos, because I try to improve in my drawings right now and I make a lot of mistakes. But with your tips, it makes a lot of thing 10× easier. Thank you for making these videos and keep it up.
This is actually really helped...I remember how first semester this year I had art and whenever I drew people my skin texture was always so one toned and flat
@@eragon2639 Late comment and not the best drawer, but I approach it the same way I do feathers; just go layer by layer down the surface, and shape / size each one a little differently from the ones directly around it ^.^
WOW! Thank you so much for this tutorial, Chris! I recently got back into drawing after years of not doing it, so any tips and tricks are helpful. And you really do have an incredible talent, thanks again :)
That is incredible! I am an artist and I’ve been drawing faces a lot recently and have been posting them onto my channel. I like to do individual things on the face such as the eye or nose or mouth and I also do the whole face as well.
Hi Chris, I just wanted to thank you for this extraordinarily helpful tutorial. I’m fine drawing smooth shading on the face, but not realistic skin. Can’t wait to try this out. Have a great day.
I never cease to be amazed by your extraordinary talent. Do you ever worry about the gel roller pen being archival or not? I would hate if your work would be damaged with time. I think it should be preserved for the future to admire. Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge.

I’m so fortunate to have found you Lethal Chris. You have much to offer. I’ll be viewing this lesson several times. Thanks.
I’ve been struggling for a long time with trying to create drawings that have a realistic texture. You’ve shown me an easy way to achieve that. You are an amazing artist and teacher!!!!
Great tips. I appreciate the small pieces of advice like not focusing on details but using a relaxed approach. Thanks
been drawing for like 40 years. never heard of a blending stump. thanks awesome tips:)
I've no words to praise your drawings

The most beautiful part of the body. Especially when a woman looks at you with those eyes
Awesome technique. I am definitely going to try this soon.
The first video I watched of yours was how to draw an eye, it was great, but as good as it was your talent has grown tremendously over the years!
I've been struggling with properly creating skin textures and this DEFINITELY helped. Simply following along taught me alot. Great video Chris! 👍

A very beautiful style of drawing. I always learn from these lessons and develop my skill in drawing. I learn to draw with pencils and charcoal pens.
