    Nicely done. I would add, due to that proprietary sealant employed by Montblanc, a little heat - hairdrayer will do, whilst rotating the section collar in your hand, & that will soften the aforementioned sealant; then rotate your forcepts/purpose built tool in increments. You may need to apply gentle heat again. The key here is to TAKE YOUR TIME - never rush, & as Jet states, preferable to remove that pink sealant & supplant with standard silicone grease - ideal for any subsequent strip-downs & re-builds (& with that, your pen will never have to see the inside of a Montblanc workshop again). For those less adventurous, by all means, avail yourself of MB's service centre(s) ~ costs will depend on the level of maintenance required, & they're not inexpensive. Fantastic overview !!

      Thanks Andrew for the nice tip! Agree to be patient especially when it comes down to these expensive pieces.
      Actually, i followed up with a video on this, as i found the silicon grease (I used TWSBI's) to be insufficient; and the pen still leaks (from the grip section area).
      Check out the video here in what managed to solve the issue for good:

      Hey, I've just watched the second instalment - appears that you've nailed the issue - fantastic ! As with so many concerns that are pen-related, invariably there is a low cost solution. Great stuff,
      Very best,
      Andrew 🙂

    Hello, as far as I can tell there is no missing washer, the gold ring is there, the one the covers the side of the holes to remove the assembly, with gentle pressure, that can be pulled down. Most of the time it is stuck and since it might get lost anyway, people don't bother to take it off. By the way, that gold ring/washer goes back only in one direction, the wider side is to the barrel.

    Thinking if you put tape over the nib and the pen area, masking the high risk areas might work effectively to protect the pen from scratching?

    Great video. You've done a wonderful job especially on reassembly. Have you ever heard of snap ring pliers? $4.00 Harbor Freight and they have a nice video of how to use them. Thank you for this video.

    • @pen_journal
      @pen_journal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Don! Never heard, but when googled, I do come across them before! But I think you really need "narrow ends" to fit the pliers into the slots of the assembly. Thanks for suggestions though! :)

      In the UK/Ireland (where I am from), we know these as 'Circlip pliers' - they're an engineering tool - I've used them many times on cars that I've owned; good call !

    What year is your pen? I bet its nice to have a brass Piston mechanism ...

    • @pen_journal
      @pen_journal  ปีที่แล้ว

      As it has the serial number, and is "WEST GERMANY" stamped, I think it should be in around the year of 1990. Pens prior to that year don't have serial numbers yet. (I may be wrong about this).
      Thank you for watching! :)

    The plastic insert that clips onto the nib in the pen lid of my Meisterstuck has become detached, so comes out attached to the nib when you take off the lid. Any idea how to reattach it or get a new one? Thanks!

    You haven’t ever taken apart a ballpoint with twist mech by any chance? Mine broke when replacing the cartridge. The black plastic that turns the piece of yellow plastic has snapped and it won’t twist to retract any more. I also can’t get the old cartridge out. I’d like to repair it myself rather than taking it to a retailer (there isn’t one anywhere nearby). I was surprised at the plastic tbh, for the price I would have expected all metal.

    • @pen_journal
      @pen_journal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that Clare. I’m not familiar with that twist mechanism.
      If the thing is broken on the “inside” it can be harder to fix.
      Have to really see it to know if it can be repaired by yourself.

      @@pen_journal after watching your video I investigated again (it happened about 5 or 6 years ago and has been sitting sadly in its box ever since) and I managed to loosen the undoable areas (couldn’t do it before). I’m going to try (gently) disassembling and see if I can mend the black plastic pusher/cam thingy that snapped. I’ll take photos so if it works I can upload for anyone else with a similar misfortune. 🙏🏼🤞🏼🙏🏼

      I've never done that with my MB146 to be honest. Cause I don't want to accidentally damage the ebonite feed.. But you can watch SBrebrown's video here for more details. Be safe.

    That's why complicated filling mechanism is bad. With a converter, the disassembly is swift and painless, because there's nothing to disassemble.

    • @pen_journal
      @pen_journal  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An example of a good piston assembly ready to disassemble is TWSBI... Easy to clean.. Actually, the Omas Ogiva has one of the best robust easy to disassemble system EVER... It comes down to engineering and aesthetics as well :)

      Actually I did manage to fix the problem (not for everyone to try on their own definitely). But I did know someone who sent their MB in for repairs, it did cost him quite an amount and also sad to say they replace the ebonite feed with a plastic feed enough though there is no issue with the feed (pen was broken at the barrel)
