Grace herself admits that her voice didn't have much of a range so her songs were somewhat of a monotone. What she did have, however was great control of what she had, a killer vibrato, and power. She almost didn't need a microphone. She wrote both of Jefferson Airplane's biggest hits while in a previous band, The Great Society, and brought them with her when she joined. Oh, and before she became a singer she was a dress model.
Straight out of Alice and Wonderland book. The Female singer is Grace Slick. She wrote the song during the 1960's flower power era. She has an extremely powerful voice and when Jefferson Airplane Broke up former band member formed a new group called Jefferson Starship and Grace was included. They had many hits during the 70's, BUT, the story does not end there. Again a break up and new group in the 1980's this time called Starship. More big hits followed. Grace does not sing anymore in public. She is a very good Painter and has turned quite conservative in her later years. She is in her 70's and is Happy.
I am going to sound pedantic and I apologize ahead of time. The book (which I have) was titled Adventures in Wonderland . Alice in Wonderland was Disney's title for their animated adaptation.
Everything that I have read says that she is still the hippie at heart. Definitely not conservative!

This is 1967 hippie music. No matter what anyone says its definitely relating Alice in Wonderland to an LSD drug trip. Otherwise she wouldnt say the pills that mother gives you dont do anything at all. When the logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead, etc feed your head.

Go back and read the lyrics. You guys totally missed the point of the song. It's about Alice in Wonderland and pills and mushrooms and smoking weed. The song compares Alice's adventure to drug trips.

It's also referring to a book at that time called "Go Ask Alice" which was the published diary of a girl who died from a drug over-dose. This book was used back then to try to educate young people about drug abuse..... I don't think it was a very successful ploy, it only made us even more curious....

Yeah, it's a short song, but a 60's classic. Jefferson Airplane changed their name to Jefferson Starship in the 70's and had some pretty good songs through the 80's that are worth checking out: Miracles, Jane, We Built This City and Sarah among others.😄👍🤟❤️

Her name is Grace Slick and possibly the best female vocalist ever in rock. This was 1967 the hippy psychedelic era and used alice in wonderland to reference drug use like lsd and mushrooms. Check out 1982's song winds of change. By then the band changed its name from airplane to starship. Also the band by then had an alternate lead vocalist mickey thomas and check out the song keep on dreaming on the same album. Or the songs black widow or can't find love on that same album.
I first heard this song in the show “The Sopranos” when Tony had a flashback to when he was a kid. I always liked the record.

One of my favorite songs ever, to the point I have it memorized. I was sure that you kids would've caught the Alice In Wonderland references. Don't feel too bad, though. I have yet to find a reaction to this who got it the first time.

just a suggestion... watch Walt Disney's 1951 animated movie version of Alice in Wonderland .... and then watch this video/listen to this song again...
The Burton version might be more up their alley, I suspect they might not dig the hand drawn animation style of the old Disney movie, because they certainly grew up with CG animation.
@@maxis5650 CG is used because it is too expensive today to craft each frame of a movie by hand, not because it is necessarily better... it's like the difference between CD and vinyl... there is a warmth and humanity to the hand drawn films that has a timeless appeal to those not trapped in the flotsam and jetsam of the moment...old school animation is awesome, and Disney was the master.. the fact that they have the intellect and taste to appreciate older music makes me think they would appreciate the older films as well ... chances are they already know some of them... in any event, it would help them appreciate this song if they haven't seen Alice

Lol, you just reminded me of a kid that was hired by Walmart. For a year I worked as a second job at Walmart. This kid about 18 was hired as a greeter at the door. They told him to greet the people coming in and to thank the people going out.
So the kid goes:
