    Jason Vieaux (bit.ly/2Euxb8E) teaches Bourrée , from the first Lute Suite by J.S. Bach. Click on the link for more free lessons and to find out about the online Classical Guitar School with Jason Vieaux!
    This is a piece that is assigned to students very early in their guitar playing development, typically. However, this is a difficult piece that Jason Vieaux wants to cover for more advanced level players. It has two lines playing at the same time, making the piece difficult. In the score, you will see a line with the stem up and a line with the stem down. He suggests playing one line at a time to practice, and then putting it together.
    One thing to keep in mind is that our ears have the natural tendencies of listening in on the top line. In order to get the same kind of clarity in both lines despite this tendency, he emphasizes practicing the bass line alone. So when you play both together, you know exactly what the lower line sounds like even if you can't hear too well. The idea is to train your ears to more actively hear the bass line. This is a great way to play any counterpoint, not only Bourrée .
    Also in this video, Jason Vieaux makes a few fingering recommendations that he feels is helpful in extending the fingers.

    Learn the part in its entirety from the beginning as it was intended to be played or you will make it difficult to learn the piece correctly later on... I really think what hes driving at is to explore the melody separately Just to get a quick handle on it initially... My personal advice is not to work at it in that fashion too diligently you Will develop unwanted muscle memory right out of the gate only do so briefly... You will yield best results if you work out each movement slowly and correctly from the beginning... Break it into smaller bite size pieces Capture the 1st few measures smoothly and move on from there..

    I've learned to dampen an unwanted bass note, such as the open A (6:00+ mark of video), with my right thumb knuckle/nail area - the top portion of my thumb - and not the fleshy part. So, I don't need to refinger the A on the 6 string. Works quite well for me...

    I see Jason's point and agree but I rather teach it/play it with the traditional fingering to be able to practice the bar and be very fast and accurate in connecting notes/chords from the 2nd fret to the 7th fret.Its harder but with time you develop accuracy (connecting chords-notes from far away distances:2nd to 9th ect) and a sense of direction on where you are at in the fingerboard at all times.

    Tell us something about the preperation of your right hand.. what choice for nails, why...can I do without..how to adjust them best for each individual..? How to train your right hand..?

      He taught me in a master class about that. He said that your right hand should be relaxed when you are plucking the strings and your hand should be plucking in a similar way how spider man shoots web with his hands

    Dude , you just talk too much. Just teach the damn song.

    • @TSgitaar
      @TSgitaar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But he is teaching the 'song'. Everything he says is important to play this piece. You can't just play the notes with Bach. To make it sound good, you need to consider the counterpoint (the multiple melodic lines played at the same time). That is what he is explaining here.

    Guitars without pickups. The 18th century must have been boring. Guitars were made for those who were too weak to hold a sword.

      Guitars weren't much of a thing in the 18th century. Early 19th is where it was at. There is nothing wrong with guitars without pickups
