    Lots of people here not understanding the difference between a little steam coming if your shower, and high pressure boiler steam.
    One removed a little dirty. The other removes skin.

      +Scott Wall
      yes we did, but we were not able to get a rifle on board. There are many laws and regulations you have to comply with and it depends on the people who are in charge in the office.
      Furthermore if there is a shootout and people get hurt or die and you end up in a international or national court, who will defend you, which insurance will pay for the left behind relatives of a shot crew member, etc. etc, it is not so simple.
      Later we had licensed armed guards with a rifle on board, who told us, they have to follow "Rules of Engagements" and cannot just shoot.

      While guns sounds great, you need a large number (the ship is very big), and/or you are paying for people who are costing money, taking up resources only for the “maybe”. Having on deck deterrents which can cover the entire ship AND be controlled by one or two people who are safely locked away is far more effective. Does not make for great movie action scenes, but hey...

      It is not that simple to have guns on a ship. We go to many different countries and different laws apply, It is a complicated process, Police comes on board and confiscates the guns and just before sailing, guns are brought back. At that time we were not allowed to have guns. Who is going to operate the gun, the cook? Not everybody is willing to shoot another human being. Training is required, rules of engagement have to be followed, otherwise you get in conflict with international laws. If any accidents happen with the guns, is there any insurance who cover this, etc. We are not living in the Wild West.

  • @jackkreacherr9339

    • @Wolfgang227
      @Wolfgang227  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bro - it is not that simple, we are not living in the Wild West. First of all, people in charge in our company did not allow us to have weapons on board, for different reasons, we could hurt ourselves, we could hurt the wrong people, if there are accidents with the weapons, no insurance would pay for it. There are rules of engagement to keep, otherwise you get in conflict with the law.
      Furthermore if you enter a port, police will come on board to collect the weapons, lock them up ashore and bring them back before sailing, which can delay routine in port.
      Therefore to protect ourselves with means available tu us, as our company did not provide anything except barbed wire, we decided to install what you see in the video. Later on we received four mercenaries equipped with one rifle. During the drill I asked them to go forward and try to enter our accommodation. They were not able to do so, which proofs our defend system was effective and working.

    I might suggest you find an out of the way place to quietly locate a locker to secure a few rifles and ask forgiveness later if discovered...

    • @trainzguy2472
      @trainzguy2472 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no sulfuric acid in ordinary water. Acid comes from combustion exhaust. On a large ship, fuel is burned to boil water, which turns to steam and is used to drive turbines to power the propellers. Alternatively, on a diesel ship, a separate oil-fired boiler normally for heating crew spaces generates the steam. The steam is completely separate from the burning fuel in both cases.

      So we took things into our hands and installed what we had already on board. The idea was to show approaching pirates that we are prepared and not an easy target and hopefully they would wait for the next passing ship. I was also planning to build some kind of flame thrower.

      I believe you. It's 2022, brother It's just hard to believe pirates are still kicking about doing pirate shit. One of those things you'd think went the way of the Doo-Doo bird in history. Amazing!
      Are you pretty much on just the one ship with the same crew members or does the company move you around like a temp worker to wherever your needed?
      Have you had close calls or even border before?

      I dont know but it kinda seems like A log hauler might not be the safest of ships. Lots of heavy cargo wanting to shift about throwing the balance off, making the ship unstable real easy.

    I find it interesting that companies are willing to spend all sorts of money on different anti piracy systems when a few moderately trained crewmen with rifles can stop them long before they come aboard. Guns and ammo are a whole lot cheaper than all these different contraptions and systems they setup.

    • @Wolfgang227

      Yes, easy to say but nobody was willing to give us guns. Perhaps reputation of seaman's are not that good, they worried we will shut each other or if there is an accident no insurance will cover it. So we had to come up with some defence system. Company only provided us with a few rolls of barbed wire. So we built our system on our own with material we had on board.

    • @Wolfgang227
      @Wolfgang227  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, understood. Our defence system was created out of the need to have some kind of protection against pirate attacks. As our company did only provide us with barbed wire and barbed wire is more for fencing of cows or goats or for prisoners, who have no tools or any protection to pass the fence. Further barbed wire has to be rigged when leaving a port and has to be removed when entering a port, it corrodes and is troublesome for the crew to handle it.
      Therefore we took what was available to us and installed it. At a later stage we got finally four mercenaries with one rifle to escort our vessel. During the drill, as shown in the video, I asked them to go forward and to try to enter our accommodation, they were not able to do so and confirmed to me that our defence system is actually working.
      Our intention was to show the pirates we are not an easy prey and we are prepared and hopefully let us alone.

      FYI, Mister Smyth the expert, the fact is that some devices have been developed to spring back the ladders. The ones I've seen are spring activated poles. And Wolfgang made just a "little" mistake. When do they use the ladder? When they're far away and can see the top of the deck or when they,'re next to the hull? So, do you really think they can see and shoot on the deck when they're against the hull? If so, you and I live in a different dimension...
      They can only see and shoot when either far away, either at the top of the ladder or on deck. Now Mr. Smyth is going to say that those pirates are using Voodoo to see and levitate the weapons before they get on board... *sigh*

      @@rickysmyth Too dangerous and go lock the doors? Sorry, but any "protection", "mercenary", or whatever word you guys uses, is NOT what they're paid for. FYI, these pirates may have one or two boats and a mother ship (most of the time). Once on board they go for the windows of the bridge, shoot them and get in. And they go for the engine room. Good ships will have bars over the windows so even if they shoot these...no go! Then the crew will lock all doors and will lock themselves in a room where they have previously stocked some water and food (very few stock these tho and it's a BIG mistake). The "operatives", are trained and paid for, to do the "protection" part. They are the ones staying on deck and doing the fight...IF necessary.

    You've got the right idea but you need to let people who do this on a daily basis on board, to train and assist you. Yes, the defences you've put up will be a deterrent but NOT in the way you think. All it will serve to do is alert any attackers that you're aware of their presence IF you switch them on when you see them/ they see you. Even a small 'wiggle' of the vessel (small enough to avoid washing off speed over ground) is sometimes enough to thwart an attack as it stops the attackers thinking they still have the element of surprise. Moreover, you need to think on a personal level. These attackers will be filled with adrenaline and heavily drugged up (usually khat). All the steam will serve to do is annoy them and probably make them more violent.
    There are tried and tested methods that professionals can offer to your crew. BMP4 isn't the last word on effective anti-piracy...experience is. Good effort though Sir. 👍
