  • We're preparing this binder for demonstration as part of an upcoming exhibit at the Canada Agriculture Museum. It's powered here by an electric motor. In actual use, the mechanism took its power from the large yellow wheel known as a "bull wheel" as it was pulled along by a team of horses, or later, by a tractor. This method of powering the mechanism was called "ground drive", as opposed to an implement being powered via a power take-off (PTO) shaft driven by the motor of a tractor.

I have this binder in a 6' cutting head. We pull it with a Model R Minneapolis Moline. Very, very seldom does it miss tying a bundle (generally when we let the string run out !) I have owned it for about ten years and have used it to cut the oats or wheat at the Franklin Grove, Ill., Living History Equipment Show, held each year, the first weekend of August. Sure is fun to still use a 110 year-old piece of equipment. What an amazing engineering job that was done on this machine! Michael Jahn

Our son has one of these on his rear property line with 40' trees growing through it. It must have been there since the combine was invented. It is not quite as good as this one LOL
