    With a break in the rain, we finally get a look at Eaglet 2 and Eaglet 1 together. Eaglet 1 is feeding while Eaglet 2 (the one on its back at times) is still trying to get more stable. With it raining all day here they have spent most of the day under Mom or the Male. Both eaglets appear to have gotten enough bites for today to get them through until tomorrow. Remember they don't need a lot of food at this size yet. They are both so adorable.

    It has been confirmed that the Male at the Nest is not our beloved Dad by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey.
    ✿ Mom is the resident female on the nest arriving in September of 2019. Based on when she arrived and that she was 5 years old, Mom would be 9 years old now or older as of 2023 She is a great Mom and has fledged 5 eaglets here over the past 3 years
    𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐬𝐭
    The eagle nest at Duke Farms was discovered in the fall of 2004. A cam was placed on a tree in 2008 for all viewers to enjoy. In 2012 the Nest tree was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and the eagle couple built a new one that December in an American Sycamore tree in a restricted area of the property. This is the tree that is the one we now see live on TH-cam. In 2013 the cams were moved to the new nest to accommodate better viewing of the nest.

    𝐃𝐚𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎-𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑
    After 17 years of protecting his territory, Dad was last seen on Cam on May 19, 2023. He was 23 years old.
    Though we could not see past the cam view it was evident that Dad was in a territorial dispute over the previous days by the action of him at the nest.
    We will all miss you, Dad. There are no words to describe the dedication and courage you had over the years protecting your young and taking so well care of them. Your legacy will live on with over 30 fledglings you have helped bring up over the years. ❤️
    My hope is always that Dad left the territory being older and wiser and not being able to defeat the intruder and is still somewhere out there. No eagle with his bands has been found up to now.
    We will all miss you, Dad.

    The nest of Connie and Clide fed their egglets at the same time. There was no bonking . It is amazing to me how different Eagle parents take care of their young.

      The last I saw him was the night of March 23. There was big flooding in New Jersey over the weekend and food is hard to find right now. He could be looking further away from the nest but I really don't know. I am watching for his return

  • @kohana3215

    I thought eaglet 1 is the one still on its back, still recovering from that difficult hatch. Eaglet 2 hatched quickly and is strong, ready for feeding.

    • @Ondabebe
      @Ondabebe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even though Eaglet 1 had a difficult hatch it hatched fine. Both were ready to feed once they could hold their heads up straight enough.

    • @kohana3215
      @kohana3215 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Ondabebe Yes, but the comments say that eaglet 1 was fed first. It appeared to me the food was aimed at eaglet 1 first, who fell on its face and then onto its back, so eaglet 2 got fed. Based on what I saw earlier that day, in this feeding I see eaglet 2 as the one sitting in half its shell being fed while eaglet 1 is the weaker one that's still struggling to hold itself up. That's what I meant. In any case, this year is looking to be much better than last year, so I'm happy that I tuned in again.

    • @Ondabebe
      @Ondabebe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kohana3215 Eaglet 1 is the one sitting in the shell while Eaglet is trying to get stable. Eaglet 2 only hatch a few hours ago. Eaglet 1 has been fed many times already prior to eaglet 2 hatch. Mom tries to feed both but it doesn't always work out that way. As of today, both are doing great. Last season was a very successful season here with both fledging with minimal aggression between the two

    • @kohana3215

      @@Ondabebe Oh, sorry, I guess I did skip watching this nest last year. It was in 2022 when the little one died. As for this season, I was concerned about the amount of time the the first egg was not incubated in the January freeze, so I was curious to see how that would work out. I was glad to find the first egg hatching on 2/29, but then read that some eaglets don't survive when the egg stays girdled around their middle, so I kept tuning in and praying, and was relieved when it was finally free of the egg on 3/1. I watched it unable to hold its head still enough to be fed; it seemed like hatching had taken so much out of it. So I was still worried about #1 and logged in every day, each time scrolling back to see what had happened since the time I left off. So I have my opinion. I believe in what I saw. I disagree with your summary. Can we just agree to disagree?

    SHARON SHNEYER, I'm not able to watch your video right now due to data problems. My condolences to everyone involved in this nest in the loss of what was an incredible eagle and mate. The Southwest Florida Eagle Cam (SWFEC), which I have been watching since Season 1 in Ft Myers, Florida, went through something similar last season when the beloved mate of M15, Harriet went missing when the eaglets were four weeks old. It was an incredible rollercoaster of a ride to see if M15 would be able to raise E21 and E22 to fledge, which was incredible considering all the intruder's who were trying to steal the eaglets food and whatnot. Harriet was in her late 20's and M15 came into her life in 2015 (they don't give them names either, except for the first season), after Ozzie disappeared, and then was found injured. Who says eagles don't have emotions?, maybe not human emotions, but after Ozzie went missing Harriet cried for two days, which we were able to watch on cam. With Ozzie's death we had closure, because he died at CROW (Clinic For The Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel, not too far away).
    M15 now has a new mate F23, and E23 came into the world on New Year's Eve, and is now 10 weeks old and thriving. F23 has proven herself to be a great mate. There was a second egg that didn't make it. As hard as these things are, I wouldn't give it up for everything I l've learned or fellow like minded eagle people I have met. Please stay safe.
