I have always LOVED the first generation Rivieras. I have had two 64 Rivieras and my first one, (dark blue metallic paint with a light blue interior) I had been trying to get since I was about 13 and finally got it when I was 19. I had saw it every day when I went to school starting in kindergarten as it sat in a back yard across the alley from the elementary school playground since I was 4 years old. Unfortunately I sold it to a friend when I was about 30 because I needed the money. He had it for about 7 years before he parked it beside a gravel pit one of his friends owns and it's sat there to this day and is slowly rusting away, and he won't do anything with it but won't sell it either. Trust me, I have tried. My second one was pale yellow with black interior. Both had the 425 and Super Turbine 400 transmission. I wish I had them both today

WoW!! I got chills watching this video. I love the old Buicks and especially the Riviera line but the Gran Sport variants are the cats meow. Having just now learned that the very first Riviera by Buick was also a Gran Sport and this is the car puts this car in a special place in Buick’s history timeline. This restoration is over the top and that he started it for you to put in the video was and is worth many thanks because I for one, wanted to hear that motor run. This has got to be my favorite video of all my favorite videos and I like them all. From one jarhead to the other whom is the owner and rescuer of this fine future top spot winner of every show it goes to Buick, a job beyond well done and Semper Fi Marine.
My jaw literally dropped at him testifying to it's 1 of 1 rarity. Wow. Right down to the tri-stipe tires! I've owned countless '60s cars, still do, but my '65 Riv was like no other car. Like a factory custom. Can't even remember this color on Cadillacs. I wonder if it was rare even on Caddys. You bring such a great number of special US cars like no other channel Lou. Thanks for that! Would love to see some of the European cars you come across! Edit; Now that I think of it, certain spicy colors were Eldorado only. Gotta save this vid and research that.

That's an amazing restoration when you consider what he started with! When I worked at GM and they brought back the last version of the Riviera, they brought the original, hand built prototype Riviera from the GM collection out to the Lake Orion plant and put it on display for a few days. It was silver with a black top. The front inner wheel wells were red. It was a real museum piece.

Absolutely a gorgeous car, and thank you Andy for your service, certainly you're the Buick guy and a gentleman. I just would like to mention all the readers and subscribers, the correct way to start a 60's-70's car with an automatic choke (in good working order) Notice the linkage @18:36 as Andy sets the automatic choke! This also sets the fast idle cam, so that the driver needs not do anything except turn the key. Wait 3 seconds or so.. this is to allow the fuel to vaporize in the manifold. It is the vapor that starts the engine, not liquid fuel. It's refreshing to see the engine fire up on the first crank, run, and stay running.. properly, as it should! Thanks for another great video, Lou!
Hi TheFRiNgEguitars, High praise for this car. Thank you for sharing the "automatic choke" tip. You're welcome, and appreciate the encouraging words on this video, Lou

What a stunning color! I think there was a dark maroon Olds with Arizona Copper interior that my friends mom drove - and thanks again for sharing these dream cars with us!
This guy is very excited about pointing out every little thing he did to the car. I like to tell the story of my brothers 68 Plymouth Roadrunner. He also did a meticulous original restoration and the final part he need was a NOS front grill. After looking for 9 months and being offered repaired ones, he found a young man whose father was restoring the same car but died before finishing it. He had the NOS grill and offered 1 time for $3,000!! My brother paid it and it sits in the car today.
Lou Costabile I most definitely will, that car and the job you did letting the proud owner talk about his trophy piece was awesome I’m so glad I found this channel... I’m from the age of guys loving the Box Chevy, Cutlass and even Crown Vics, but I’ve always loved the Riviera all models even the front wheel drives ones!!! I can’t wait to have time to sit and watch all your content and whatever new you have coming in the future!!! Thanks for the response I wasn’t expecting it!!!
My Mom had a ‘63 Rivera when I was in my early teens. I loved it, especially the interior. I would sit in it and get spit on the inside of the windshield making engine noises with my mouth (jk). My folks sold it before I got my license, that probably saved my life because I drove like an idiot for the first year or so. I would have beat that car like it owed me money. Luckily, I bought a ‘67 Chevelle with a 6cyl as my first car. Nobody died. The ‘63-‘65 Rivera has a special place in my heart, as a kid I knew every curve of those cars and drew pictures of them on my school notebooks and stuff back then. I would often soften up the roofline to make it look a little more like a ‘68 GM A body and widen the rear quarter panels slightly to make slightly oversized tires look right. It’s the design of the front of these cars that captured my imagination. Simply beautiful piece of automotive history. As a young kid I watched Speed Racer on TV (a terribly animated Saturday morning cartoon) and always though the Riv had “borrowed” a little design from Mach5 Speed drove in the show, not realizing the Riv came first lol. Anyway, thanks for a great video of an awesome car, Thumbs up!

I am in shock having viewed this video! Hands down this redo is breathtaking, which is how I felt seeing the 1965 Riviera for the first time at the State Fair Of Texas. I was in Junior High School and remembered taking brochures of my favorite cars that year to classes and this was my dream car. Here’s to a job well done 👍!

Andy Star was after a creation of "timeless elegance" with this restoration. ...I say he nailed it.
Hi melodicdreamer72, High praise! Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi Gene Still, High praise :-) Lou
Hi UberLummox, Hight praise for this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing the details you enjoy. Lou P.S. There are lots of European cars on this Channel so take some time and enjoy!
Mike Velek is a friend of mine and his paint skills are unmatched. He did an amazing job on a 1963 Dodge Polara for one of my customers, and to say he's pleased with the result is an understatement!
Thank you for sharing Ted :-)
One word says it all "WOW".
Hi Robert, Happy to receive a "WOW" from you :-) Lou

It feels like its 1965 again beautiful time machine 💯👍👍
Hi David R, This one that looks showroom new takes you right back in time :-) Nice, Lou

The Buick Riviera were some beautiful cars!
Great video on a stunning car!
High praise Duececoupe :-) Thank you for sharing a wonderful comment, Lou
This guy says original almost as many times as Lou says wonderful!
love you Lou!
Hi Bob Bob, Wow, he must really say "original" a lot ! :-) Lou
When we attended the 2017 Buick Nationals in Brookfield, Wisconsin, this car was on display in the hotel lobby. It is, as your great video shows, a truly stunning car in all respects. That bronze color really looks great in person, and you really did a great job capturing all the unique details this car has! Another double WOW video on a double WOW car. Thanks Lou.
High praise :-) Glad you enjoy this car, and you're welcome.

Yeah, I'll take 2 please. ;-) OMG, this car is incredible!
High praise :-)
The 65’ is my favorite for two reasons.
1. Clamshell Headlights
2. The Taillights are in the Bumper.
Lou you could fit right in with my Italian family lol. Love it when you say “wooow”. Sound just like us.
Love you man.
Hi Richard Brown, Amore :-) Lou
this is just incredible!

Glad you enjoy this one mitchlu :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
..Like many classics, an old car like this can easily end-up in a salvage yard and either quickly become financially non-viable to restore.. or else some determined fellow comes along, and as a labour of love.. POW ! Great how Cars motivate people ! What a find. Thanks, one of the most well proportioned cars Ever (imo.)
Hi JOHNNIE LORD IF THE MungoidHen PEOPLE, Glad you enjoy the labor of love to get this one back to this condition :-) Agreed, and amazing effort to restore this car to this level of beauty :-) Lou

Well said. You're welcome customkey, Lou
What a stunning color! I think there was a dark maroon Olds with Arizona Copper interior that my friends mom drove - and thanks again for sharing these dream cars with us!
Hi Brock White, Glad you enjoy the color of this one :-) You're welcome, Lou
This guy is very excited about pointing out every little thing he did to the car. I like to tell the story of my brothers 68 Plymouth Roadrunner. He also did a meticulous original restoration and the final part he need was a NOS front grill. After looking for 9 months and being offered repaired ones, he found a young man whose father was restoring the same car but died before finishing it. He had the NOS grill and offered 1 time for $3,000!! My brother paid it and it sits in the car today.
Hi Bradydog, Andy sure is excited about his car, I agree. Thanks for viewing and sharing the story about your Brother's NOS grill, Lou
WOW!!! Nothing else left to say!!!
Hi A Day Wit Jay, Happy to receive a 'WOW!!!" Hope you spend some days with Lou on this TH-cam Channel :-)
Hi AngryRed Banjo, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and adding to the story with details on your Mom's 63 Riv, Lou
