I made a call to Pro Marine, USA in Florida this morning. I have a 2017 150 four with this leaking seal. I spoke to Elvin, who was extremely helpful with this issue. The don't currently have replacement caps made for my particular model/ serial number. The Shock Rod assembly (removed in this video) for my engine is part no. 8M0060145. The price or this, until January 2025, was $511. This has now now been adjusted to $750. It will be a last resort for me to spend this much on such a simple problem.. I"m understanding that I can fix mine by simply replacing the seal (O-ring) below the existing cap. Top ring on the cap is just a wiper. The O-ring needed is not available as a Mercury party but can be purchased (rubber O-ring) at any hardware store. Sooo, I'm going to take this assembly out and simply remove the top "puck assembly" from the rod and replace the O-ring. It's not rocket science as clearly demonstrated here. Shame on Mercury for making this so expensive... and yes, it's possible that the rod itself is damaged- but I think that's highly unlikely on my unit. It will be a week or so but I'll try to get back here and report on the results . Much thanks to Leon- Lonewolf Adventures, here for providing this insight and contact information for Pro Marine, USA. Those guys could have just insisted that I buy the new assembly- I appreciate the expertise and honesty to find another solution that will probably solve the problem.
Hi. Thanks for the video. I have a 150 mercury from 2013 with the same issue. The end cap / shock piston is not serviceable according to the service manual., so I cant see the size of seal to use. Where did you buy the seal for end cap?
