The same battlefield featured in this video is where French and Piedmont forces under the leadership of Napoleon III won his greatest victory over the Austrians, commanded by Emperor Franz Josef (yes that one) at the Battle of Solferino 1859. That battle was the last time in European history that the armies of both sides were commanded by their respective monarchs. It was an important battle that laid the groundwork for the creation of a fully independent Kingdom of Italy.

While the French exacted heavy so-called “contributions” from the states they invaded in form of pure cash, many of these states didn’t have anywhere near the amount of money that the French were demanding. Much of the value of these contributions came in the form of priceless works of art and other objects that were forcibly handed over. This was especially true for the Papal States, which was ruled by the Pope, who had to give invaluable historical artifacts when the French invaded.

What you were mentioning about communication its quite incredible how they did it back then like take Ghengis Khan an the Mongles he could get a message from one side of his empire to the other in 2 weeks because he use to have what were called day riders they would ride all day an then come up to a check point for another rider and when they were a few mils out from the check point they would sound a horn then that rider would start off then the rider with the messagecwoukd hand id to the next like in a relay so that they would never have to stop.
and given thst this was back in the 1200's and Genghis's empire went from the China sea to the Danube that is quite impressive
Tubby is a big fan of Genghis and the Mongol empire, he is aware of the message service he had it was such a great feat in the times he was in!
