A man I can relate to, Always build your own tools to serve your purpose. You did well in my opinion. Not 100% sure mig welding your heads will hold up but they should last a while. Too bad you don't have an old forge to melt the steel together with and then harden the head but that would offer up other complications I guess. Good on you ;)
Div.. Excellent hammer. If the head starts to get sloppy on the handle : Soak the hammer head and 1 " (26cm) of the handle above the head in used antifreeze overnight. It will then fit as snug as the day you built it. Sloppy sledge, axe or other wood handled tools will also benefit from an antifreeze soaking. Best to You and Yours.👍🇿🇦
Dear Ray Bann 👍👌👏 The smiley fits your name perfectly, congrats! 😁 ;-) 2) Your advice sounds very interesting. I never heard of something like that before. Is it essential to use used antifreeze or is it only because of not wasting new liquid? Thanks in advance for answering. Best regards, luck and health in particular.
@@Chr.U.Cas1622 Well.. used antifreeze is what most gearheads have. Linseed oil is the traditional wood workers preference. Hope this helps ..Best to you and yours.
Just when I think I can't be inspired anymore. You go and do something like this. This reminds me of a blacksmith making his own tools. Thank you for this video.
Well you have made it to Florida my friend, really enjoy your vids and especially your attitude! I,m a Retiree both Military and now from Power Company and enjoy RatRods and Classic Car building in my 66X40 Mancave and can,t wait to see what you have for me to watch, I.ve got TH-cam in my Garage along with Old Rock and Roll playin, Thank You Brutha!!
Absolutely love the creativity! I love watching cars and tools being restored and created. That hammer will last you a lifetime, brother! I look forward to seeing more of your content!
Diff you are a man after my own heart. I will always fabricate my own first and by later if I cant fab my own. when Hot Rodding got started in the USA everyone had to make it because it wasn't made by anyone yet.
I’m from Texas which is also a third world country and we have controlled blackouts from load shedding, but it’s always when the weather is extremely hot or cold. Old video I know but I feel your frustration. They never seem to do rolling blackouts at a convenient time
Hi Div, just watching some of your vids posted before I discovered your channel. I've gotta say brother, your skills are absolutely second to none, love your videos.👌👍🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You are a true craftsman. I just join/subscribed yesterday, since then including me you are up 24 subscribers. I can see why, you take the time to explain stuff that would normally go over most people's heads, who have never done this type of stuff before. Like when you changed the spring on the front of your Suicide Front End Rat Rod. And this video was great to. I can't wait for you next one. Bart
Thanks a lot Bart. It is my mission to try and share some of the knowledge I have gained over many years. If it is meaningful and I can manage to empower and add a little value, it is mission accomplished! 😃 Comments like yours is the fuel that will keep me going.👍
Dear Div. 👍👌👏 Well done again and as always (video and work). The hammer looks great, congrats! It's always joyful to work with self made respectively self modified tools. I absolutely love to recycle/upcycle/repair/modify things, especially old tools. For instance thicker and longer handles are very important for me, especially for any kind of garden tools and brooms! 2) It was very interesting to see how you secured the hammer head onto the handle (with two vertical cuts and two small smooth/plain steel wedges. I've never seen this before. In former times nearly all hammer handles in Germany had been secured with a horizontal cut and a very specially shaped steel wedge (with 2 or 3 set teeth). Nowadays we/I still use the horizontal cut but drive and glue in a wooden wedge. Additionally a short* piece of sharpened pipe gets driven in (* round about as long as the cut is deep). This method kind of wedges the wood fibres in every possible direction and secures the handle much better than we did it in former times. If there is any overhanging wood and/or pipe, it gets shortened after the glue has hardened out completely. 3) You definitely inspired me to build a body hammer too. I will try to find and use a hardened steel ball from a big old ball bearing on one side. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
@@ratrodsafrica You're welcome, it's my pleasure. Thanks for replying and especially for another heart. I always and totally appreciate both very much. Sincerely yours.
I agree Brian, I also enjoy Div's videos. I bought a simple simple set of body Hammers and dollys from the local body shop. But I am not happy, heads are too small and the hammers feel too light. I have to make my own, since Div made it look so easy. Thank you again for sharing Boet. KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING.
The body hammers you can buy in this country is pathetic... but then panel beaters are dead... now you only get panel changers! Make yourself some decent hammers bru!😀
I saw your intro and knew you're my type of fabricator. Lol. We have rolling blackouts here in Arizona too. It's rare but usually when it's super hot and not for too long.
Thanks Shawn. Our blackouts are called "loadshedding". Happens often and is a planned event because the utility many times does not have enough power to supply everyone!
Duff awesome job. Hopefully you get great use out of it for many years to come my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
Yeah I use ballpeen hammers they are balanced very well there great for body work. I think home made tools are great you get to build them and have the pride that you can make something you like.. life long tools are best.be cool.
@@ratrodsafrica yes they harden steel forged. not cast I used to work for a forging company back in the 80' s and they did forge stamped ballpeen hammer head's anything you do with them they will remain hardened.good hunting.be cool.

Extremely happy to find this amazing video. Thank you very much for your great guidance. This video is very helpful for me as i was finding some alternative of this hammer instead of buying it. 🙏
I was thinking of making one similiat with a longer back piece seeing you cut the steering wheel and customing it made me think i could make it out of the outside rod around it i have an old steering laying around guess i need to get busy
First thing thought of when saw this video. Stop! Hammertime do do do doooo... now song stuck in my head lol btw awsome looking hammer boss .cheers ✔✔👌
Nice job. I have some old hammers around here now I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Its time to build your own back up power system then you will not have power load sharing problems. Think first world from a 3rd world area, you can do it!
Thank you Sir! Yes, backup systems are big business here. I have a small one that can power some lights and small stuff, but to build one to power the bigger machines are frigging expensive

Bueno. Gracias. Eres. Un maestro 👨🏫
Thank you!
I have found some very interesting types of wood in old pallets. Even some Purple Heart one time.
For me, the moral of the story is that you need a hammer to make a hammer! I too love your videos here in the USA.
I've always wondered... you would need a lathe to make a lathe, so how did they make the first one?😄
What a great hammer made from a lonely old hammer that probably would never be used again! 😎🔨
Ja, the old hammer would have remained buried forever, I picked it up in a field 😆
