Karen’s gorgeous vocals and Richard’s stunning arrangements and Christmas…magic! Richard wrote the melody and a friend Frank Pooler wrote the lyrics to Merry Christmas Darling. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Thank you for the great reaction. ☃️🎄🎅♥️☃️🎄🎅♥️
"One of a kind". I would humbly add she was the "only kind". The most beautiful female voice.......ever. She has a catalogue of Christmas songs. A contralto, who could sing soprano as well.
This is an amazing song! They don’t sing them like this any more! She was so natural and absolutely pleasing to the ear! 🥰Thanks for all the wonderful music and memories this past year! Looking forward to more in the new one! Wishing You and Yours a Truly Blessed and Wonderful Holiday! 🤶🎄🎶💕
I have such a clear memory of the first time I heard this song. I was in high school, washing dishes, looking out the kitchen window at the blue Christmas lights the neighbor had hung. I always had the radio on doing chores. This just took my breath away, and it still does. It was released in more than one year, but my first hearing was probably December 1973. I loved her voice so much. So, the thing is, in classical singing the lowest female voice would be called a contralto. Highest is soprano, then mezzo soprano (I was a mezzo and could sing soprano or alto parts) and then contralto. The word alto is often used for that voice, but really it means the part in a choral piece, not the type of singer. A contralto voice generally sings the alto part. There are also other subcategories, but that's what the deal is. It really applies mostly to classical or operatic singing, but I would say Karen was a gorgeous contralto and she could have sung just about anything. TMI? Sorry, Merry Christmas Chad, and everyone.
Alles Liebe dir und deiner Familie zu Weihnachten und im neuen Jahr ❤ Karen hatte eine wundervolle Stimme die wir leider nie mehr mit neuen Songs hören werden. Schade 😢
Love the Carpenters and this is a beautiful song. Merry Christmas to you and your family Chad and to everyone in the 3L family. Every good wish to us all for a peaceful and healthy 2024. Many thanks Chad! X
Never heard before but whenever Karen sings the result is simply astonishing. Enjoy your free time with your family Chad, and I'll see you when I see you.
My All-Time favorite Christmas song. Richard wrote this plus all the arrangements. Karen first recorded this at age 20 (what we're hearing now). They over dubbed their 1978 Holiday Special with Karen's 1970 vocals. She was one of a kind, so angelic. She sang with power & vulnerability at the same time. The emotions she conveys in her songs are beyond human comprehension. It caresses our souls!
Merry Christmas, Chad. My best to you and your family this holiday season. I hope it is restful, filled with warmth, laughter, and moments of reflection. I look forward to following your channel in 2024.
Chad, while shopping at the store today, I heard The Carpenters carols, here in a country very far from their country! After so many years, these songs light up our lives! Thanks for this winter dream! Merry Christmas!🎅🏻🎄
Very nice, Chad; thank you for uploading this. Out of the four Carpenters 45s that I have, this is one of them. God bless you and help your channel to be an influence for good to the world. Merry Christmas as we focus on The Reason for the season.
I love this song so much! It's the perfect thing to react to this time of year! I know this song extremely well, but I've never seen the music video for it before now. I've listened to it, along with the whole Carpenters “Christmas Portrait” album, every year as my siblings and I (and, sometimes, cousin) decorate our grandparents' Christmas tree and, then, almost every year as we decorate our tree at home with our parents for my entire 23 years of life so far. I spent pretty much my entire childhood only really knowing the songs from that album from them. Even though I always start listening to Christmas music before we start decorating our trees, there's just something about hearing the the very first note of the very first song on that album (which is just the first verse of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”, in case you were curious) which I always save to listen to for the first time when my grandpa turns it on right as we're about to decorate his tree, that makes it truly feel like the Christmas season has begun. I spent my whole childhood only caring about that album because of when it was tradition to listen to it and only truly liking a few songs from it but have grown to love the whole album as I've gotten into the Carpenters over the last, maybe, few years. This is, probably, my favorite song on the album and one I've always really enjoyed from it. You're absolutely right! It certainly IS an iconic song.
Merry Christmas Chad🎉🎉 That you for featuring this wonderful Christmas classic, by Karen Carpenter. Thank you so very very much in giving us your time to feature The Bee Gees songs, you are part of my must haves and I look forward to you each week. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2024 God bless you, guide you and protect you. Much love.
Hi and Merry Christmas Chad, Karen was a Contralto with a 3.5 octave range. The song is an original Carpenters song. It was written in the 1940’s by Frank Pooler. He couldn’t write music so the lyrics sat for decades. He went on to become a music and choir teacher at Long Beach State College in Southern California. In the mid 1960’s he had two talented students Richard and Karen Carpenter. It was Frank who worked with Karen to develop her singing voice after discovering she could sing. As he grew more friendly with the siblings he showed Richard his song lyrics. It didn’t take very long and Richard composed the music. In 1970 when the Carpenters were signed to A&M Records the song was first recorded and released as a Christmas Holiday song. It became a perennial, charting numerous times over the years. In 1978 Karen re-recorded the vocals and it was included in the Christmas Portrait album. Richard released a second Christmas album “Old Fashioned Christmas in 1984 after Karen had passed. Frank Pooler accompanied Carpenters on many tour dates over the years. He usually conducted the off stage orchestra that accompanied them. He can clearly be seen in the black and white Australia Tour concert. A wonderful reaction to a classic Christmas song! Joe
@@hereonthe3L you are more than welcome Chad! I didn’t say this in the post as the season will be over when you ramp back up. So consider this a coming attraction. I have an artist I was going to request. It’s a cover of this song. Just know no one could possible truly cover this song. (Wink) I have other songs to request and will save the Christmas songs for next year. In the meantime this is a Christmas present so you can say if you’d like more. Oh she recorded this last year and is even better now. Keywords: Tori Holub Merry Christmas Darling Enjoy! Joe
Enjoy your break and family time. I was taken aback a bit when you said "I'm taking a break from you"...but then you added "you tube" Pheww! Thanks for another great year!!!!!!! ♥
Happy Christmas and a very very happy and prosperous new year Chad. ..Karen Carpenter's voice was really out of this world.....what a pity and a loss to the world of music that she passed so young at just 33...... somewhat like Andy Gibb..... .
You should not overlook the AMAZING 73 yr. old Darlene Love getting on top of the piano to sing her great Christmas song entitled "Darlene Love's spectacular final Christmas performance on David Letterman" at th-cam.com/video/tsU08y9peZg/w-d-xo.html. Do not stop when it seems like the end because there's a bit more after.
I agree. I looked forward to seeing Darlene, Jay Thomas (RIP) and all the Christmas hi-jinks for many years. Here's a treat from Dave. It's Darlene, with Paul and backup singers - posted this past week. She's still got it. th-cam.com/video/Shr8aESYZcY/w-d-xo.html
Still absolutely stuns me how here in 2024 people of all ages and musical tastes are discovering what God's angel actually sounds like. It was brutal loving Karen and her music in the early 70s cause all my guy friends considered it sissy music. They only accepted rock n roll, the worse the singer and tune the better it was. Truth is i loved rock, too. But few voices in Music history can touch the vocals of Karen. Of heaven. How prejudiced, immature, and wrong they were. I feel soooo vindicated.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Her voice is and always will be love, romance and yes, Christmas.... the beautiful backing voices are Karen and her brother Richard..
Best female vocalist of all time and along with Richard, these 2 performers rocked

She's known for contralto (not alto). Contralto refers to a female singer who can sing real low...
The contralto voice is pure magic...Patsy Cline, Anne Murray, Judy Garland, Etta James, Norah Jones, and on and on....
MERRY CHRISTMAS CHAD AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Merry Christmas CHAD🎄. Can’t wait until you are back for more reactions. Enjoy your time with your family.

Darlene Love's voice is Christmas to me. She sang as the lead for several girl groups but was usually anonymous in that role.
