SledgeHammer98k . The original comment suggested it was based entirely around the actual impact, in which case, yes, it'd depend on the speed. Now, if we're factoring in other things like density, it's an entirely new bag of worms.
I've been jonesing to bring out Jeb when the time was right! And thanks man, I've been wanting to get a few real CG shots in there, even if they can only happen on occasion due to the ridiculous render times. But hell, you guys are worth the effort. My view is, if you guys can help me get my dream job of self-employed youtube gamer then you deserve some damn good stuff in return. It's also why I haven't got many milestone videos, all of my videos are dedicated to you guys! :3
My greatest success was getting a stock rocket, waiting until the moon was above me and gunning straight for it. It is safe to say that I still have never even reached orbit.
That's why I made a point of mentioning that they burrow themselves into the target. However I added the 'Kethane-enriched' part onto the end just to make sure. And because I hadn't got my green palette out yet this episode and everyone knows that green explosions look cool.
Thanks man! The best bit for me was that I was at a complete loss when wrong end of the corvette started wandering past me into the asteroid. I was like, "what the... oh BALLS!".
Haha thanks man! A couple of people have suggested 'behind the scenes' episodes, so I might well do one. What would you like me to cover in particular? Plot/Story/Recording/Editing/Composition/Scoring/How-mind-numbingly-annoying-bugs-that-destroy-your-best-laid-plans-can-be?
I think it was both of the warheads since the other was nearby so the explosion of the attached warhead probably caused the other one to blow up. But, it might be noted in the future that theres a warhead orbiting Kerbin.
I was trying to, however I hit so VERY many bugs this time around and the CGI renders took a few hours on top. Hopefully I can get this out around 7ish GMT in future as I don't want to be up until 5am again! :P
Cinema sin.... the asteroid was heading to southern Elysium. so if he didnt accelerate (the escape pod wasnt enough to be considered) he should of landed around southern Elysium...
Been a while since I saw this, so ill leave the judgement to you with one thought. How long was it from separation to landing and how much would the planet turn. Like I said, been a long time and wouldn't know without rewatching.
The asteroid has far more drag than Jed's little pod. The asteroid would slow its horizontal velocity much faster and thus land in the EE. Jeb on the other doesn't have enough drag to cancel out as much horizontal velocity and therefore doesn't land in the EE. However, this is not enough given the reentry angle to excuse Jeb landing east of the Styx Dominion.
It's just impressive how much affort you put into your videos I mean the whole roleplay aspact is awesome and It's nice to see something different than flying to every planet in ksp thanks for your great vids and please don't change if you become more popular :D
You'd have buffeting from the particles and macro-particles (chunks) but no real shock-wave. The rumble sound effects is there because I take the BSG/Zoic approach to space and SFX: Sound is space is incorrect. However as humans we naturally expect sound as feedback. So by providing a little sound we trade a little accuracy for a lot of 'feel'.
Between this and Kerbal Rising, you have gained a new subscriber. I love the narrative you've created to show off some interesting KSP missions, and I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what the future has in store. The off-screen effort you're putting in every World War K video shows by the way, and I for one can appreciate that :P As a (future) video suggestion, perhaps you could do a "behind the scenes" and/or director's commentary video at some point? Might be a nice milestone video!
Any part but the plain old 'part' in KSP was either Blender or After Effects. Frankly I love the opening shot the most but it took an age to render (relative, it was an age considering I was on a tight deadline).
Very good point... I hadn't thought of that. Ah, that's why they go dead on re-entry for a while and mission control get antsy! I should probably put a note of that. It's a nice thematic device.
Oh bollocks! I hadn't thought of this... the neutron radiation would have induced radioactivity in the hull of the spacecraft which would be pretty indicative of a nuclear explosion... Damn, you're right! Thanks man, I'm going to have to cover this. Also, I now have a theme to talk about next episode!
Could do actually, I don't believe there is one, however that depends on whether I have time. I think I'm going to be using it fairly regularly from now on though, at least as a full transfer system.
Woo this is like the first video ive ever seen with over 400 veiws with NO dislikes! Congratulations! Nice Video Elysium! Keep this Awesome content coming!
I do like Macey's stuff, but I really think that the best KSP has to offer is in the modding community. In addition I like the design and some factual information so I use the plot to convey these. Plus his style is a little more akin to a comic book in delivery whereas I try to deliver mine in a deliberately overblown movie style. Or at least that's how the delivery of the story comes across to me.
He's the hero Kerbin deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Kerbal Badass.
I did use the 'G' for grab at a couple of points however I game using a Nostromo gamepad so the extra keys would mean switching to keyboard and I'm too lazy. :P
All ships from the earlier episodes are already released (see IRU #02), and I cannot upload my game data folder due to copyright reasons. Until such time as someone makes a mod pack WITH the modders permission everyone will have to put the effort in to clicking those handy links in the description.
I'm personally most interested in the behind the scenes set-up and preparation that goes into the scenarios, although hearing about how you work in the plot/story sounds rather interesting as well :')
What techniques do you want to know about in particular? I might well put this on the list as I have seen this request bandied about a couple of times.
True, although even with 100m you're going to likely break up in atmo. The yield might well inc from 10Mtn (that was based on a lower end of ~20km/s) but not to insane levels.
Thanks for the offer man but I am able to do a little of that myself. I'm staying away from the Lazor mod because it tanked my game a while back and the ability to 'instanta-destroy' by homing on any target within 99km may be a lot of fun but doesn't make for very good watching.
Aw.... would've been a good idea though. Also, keep up the good work! I subbed you when you had only a couple hundred subscribers and it' amazing how much your channel is growing!
There isn't much but bits everywhere and crashed ships. I could do if something happens that was stuff there, like the line-up prior to a battle so people could play?
Well.. that depends on the velocity that the asteroid has when it impacts the earth. But i guess that the standard asteroid has a 10 Mtn yield? Awesome series btw, you deserve more views!
The pushing effect would only work at a distance, however it's certainly one possibility. I tried to stay away from asteroid defence measure a little since Scott Manly is going to do a video on them and he is much more qualified than me on these matters.
Cheers, the description of this video was really helpful to me while I was adding mods to KSP, and it was an awesome video. (but I think I mentioned the last point in a previous comment.)
Yes and I saw Armageddon that movie was awsome I still remember that today that was an epic movie and so Is this video keep up the good work EnterEnterlysium!
*Watches asteroid explode along with the corvette and slow take off hat in sadness* It did what it needed to do and it was a good thing too... R.I.P Corvette :(
Jeb Kerman: ULTIMATE BADASS and only other thing in existence that can meet Chuck Norris' gaze and not combust. As for an excuse about the ship, how about some unexploded Styx munitions with strange markings where found in orbit during a routine flight, and the pilot sacrificed his ship to collide with them to ensure that they didn't make planetfall. The bright explosion could also be explained by pointing out the fact that they must have had a nuclear payload. Win-Win for you.
The reason there was no design in this episode was because it was nearly all just bolt-ons to the original corvette. I do like ship design and think it's a nice part provided I keep it short. Those who don't want to watch that bit have the magical ability to skip ahead, so they shouldn't mind it. :)
I do enjoy doing then but they do take up a fair amount of time. So there will be more but they might not be as frequent as I would like. But then again, I would 'like' a whole CG episode, but that would take weeks and weeks. :P
Post-production. :D Honestly, there are some amazing tutorials around on the web and other youtubers who specialise in VFX are a mine of information. As for youtube tips, to start with: Good audio (remove background buzz), something original (as much as I like minecraft I don't think I could add much to the MILLIONS of video that there are already) and be consistent with uploads if you what to expand your subs.
I have no idea what that is. Seeing as Elysium is one aspect of the udnerworld in mythology I used another mythological allusion for the opposition. In this case the river that feeds into the Greek underworld.
I'm UK, so I set it to upload at 5:30 and went to bed... I really wanted to keep my promise of a Friday release, it was still friday somewhere... right?
About impact damage? Nah, there was a joint academic project to make a website that calculates yield and effect of impacts. Google "asteroid impact calculator" and you'll get it (two versions, old - which allows speeds of sub 11km/s, and new - which is prettier). Bare in mind Kerbin and it's atmosphere are much much smaller so less time for the body to break-up on entry.
Ohmy...this Nuke-attachment action was absolutly awesome, very intense. Did'nt know that KSP could become more exciting than the actual movies Armageddon&co
Call me crazy, but the music when Jeb renters sounds like the beginning of Heavy Metal when the astronaut re-enters the atmosphere in his 63 Corvette. Awesome movie, a little bit adult and drunk oriented, but good.
He also mentionned drilling them inside the asteroid, and the asteroid himself having deep cracks. That really depends on the asteroid composition and density. A nuke would also vaporize several centimeters of the surface and give it a shove. One hour before impact is really too late, but sooner is fine. Another mean is what Styx did, but in reverse.
These are so entertaining AND educational. Jeb for president!
Agreed best episode from you and last episode was retarded when mec-Jeb did not do his job right... I hate him now
one day jeb is gonna be a myth and people are gonna go around the universe collecting the pieces of the Corvette
Okay the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs was 6 miles in diameter. Now imagine the moon HITTING THE EARTH!!!
unicron5120 How fast is the Moon travelling at impact? The damage caused is really down to the speed of the body impacting. :3
A.D Mitchel I don't think, at that size, it really matters the speed of the object.
SledgeHammer98k . The original comment suggested it was based entirely around the actual impact, in which case, yes, it'd depend on the speed. Now, if we're factoring in other things like density, it's an entirely new bag of worms.
SPY!!!!
Jebs face when the metal starts playing, FUCK YEAH! Kr'bin.
I've been jonesing to bring out Jeb when the time was right! It's also why I haven't got many milestone videos, all of my videos are dedicated to you guys! :3
He's slingshotting around the moon to blow up an asteroid and I can't even get to the South Pole yet!
Neither can I
My greatest success was getting a stock rocket, waiting until the moon was above me and gunning straight for it.
I imagine he blared the radio music over the radio to all friendly radios on the planet.
Thanks man! The best bit for me was that I was at a complete loss when wrong end of the corvette started wandering past me into the asteroid. I was like, "what the... oh BALLS!".
I love your Vids, this is better than Armageddon!
Says the man awake at 4.50am, please, get a life.
Haha thanks man! A couple of people have suggested 'behind the scenes' episodes, so I might well do one. What would you like me to cover in particular? Plot/Story/Recording/Editing/Composition/Scoring/How-mind-numbingly-annoying-bugs-that-destroy-your-best-laid-plans-can-be?
Saving the world like a boss. Subbing!
:)
EnterElysium hey elysium which mod did you get the nukes from I'm messing around with things like that myself and I can't find the nukes
Bjorn Cattell-Ravdal He used a fuel tank and some radioactive logos, plus some nice photoshop.
Haha, I came up with the slingshot to gain the extra delta-V then realised how much I was copying armageddon! :P Glad you enjoy!
That nuclear blast was EPIC, was it edited, or is the kethane warhead really so powerful?
I think it was both of the warheads since the other was nearby so the explosion of the attached warhead probably caused the other one to blow up. But, it might be noted in the future that theres a warhead orbiting Kerbin.
yeah
Edited.
The "warhead" was just a prop (a couple of KW Rocketry fuel tanks with radiation symbols on them), so yeah, the explosion was edited.
Keep in mind that the planet was rotating under him during his entire transit back.
Been a while since I saw this, so ill leave the judgement to you with one thought. How long was it from separation to landing and how much would the planet turn. Like I said, been a long time and wouldn't know without rewatching.
Dylan Watts Well, he had to timewarp significantly, so there's that.
BEST KSP VIDEO EVER!!! (thats in World war K, your entire channel, and all of youtube)
I would kamikaze the astroid
And that's why nasa won't hire you
Thomas Wildrabbit nazi grammar
u guys never watched armageddon
He be no Grammar Nazi.
Plenty of asks for this now; what would you like to see especially? :)
It's just impressive how much affort you put into your videos I mean the whole roleplay aspact is awesome and It's nice to see something different than flying to every planet in ksp thanks for your great vids and please don't change if you become more popular :D
I have fond memories of this episode. :)
Glad you enjoy!
same here
21:06 would make a great trailer for a movie: Badass 2: The Legend Continues - apart for when the music slightly fades as Elysium speaks
You'd have buffeting from the particles and macro-particles (chunks) but no real shock-wave. The rumble sound effects is there because I take the BSG/Zoic approach to space and SFX:

Nah, I don't want to compromise quality for quantity. TH-cam has plenty of the later already. :D
I was going to originally title it RagnoROCK, but then decided too many people would conplain that I'd made a spelling mistake...
Could do actually, I don't believe there is one, however that depends on whether I have time. I think I'm going to be using it fairly regularly from now on though, at least as a full transfer system.
Woo this is like the first video ive ever seen with over 400 veiws with NO dislikes!

That was amazing! Jeb Is the master of everything awsome video EnterElysium!
R3 of Infinite Dice's mod just came out. That is now on the shortlist for happening soon!
He's the hero Kerbin deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
So they'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero.
He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Kerbal Badass.
This was by far the best episode of the series so far
Keep up the good work! =3
14:00 onwards for a while is a good example of the classic "Houston, we have all the problems."
I did use the 'G' for grab at a couple of points however I game using a Nostromo gamepad so the extra keys would mean switching to keyboard and I'm too lazy. :P

What techniques do you want to know about in particular? I might well put this on the list as I have seen this request bandied about a couple of times.
Really great stuff you are doing here, man, i love how you make it so realistic!
Agreed, that would be an amazing mod.
True, although even with 100m you're going to likely break up in atmo. The yield might well inc from 10Mtn (that was based on a lower end of ~20km/s) but not to insane levels.
I see Jeb as having a streak of Tony Stark. So that's my Avengers nod right there. :D
I was going to save him but you're made a great point about the radiation. Damn.
Take all of my likes. That was epic. I've watched through the series once and I'n going through again. One of my favorite moments when Jeb Reenters XD
Thanks for the offer man but I am able to do a little of that myself. I'm staying away from the Lazor mod because it tanked my game a while back and the ability to 'instanta-destroy' by homing on any target within 99km may be a lot of fun but doesn't make for very good watching.
Depends on the wording in the treaty. Can inform you that the small print of 'WMD' definition covers standard NBC stuff, not kinetics.
Scott Manly has an excellent video for just such this problem!
Loving the series I think Friday is the best days for it :) keep up the good work
You just got yourself a new subscriber :)...good god you're literally amazing and making video's, THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!! good job man
Aw.... would've been a good idea though. Also, keep up the good work! I subbed you when you had only a couple hundred subscribers and it' amazing how much your channel is growing!

By far my favorite World War K video yet
That's being added soon, just waiting for the Launch Pad resource system to be implemented fully! :D
Certified badass WHERES MY CERTIFICET i need to call someone about that. Who runs the badassery department?
The pushing effect would only work at a distance, however it's certainly one possibility. I tried to stay away from asteroid defence measure a little since Scott Manly is going to do a video on them and he is much more qualified than me on these matters.
That episode was so epic! With the suspense and the badass jeb thing
It's saturday morning here on the east coast of america, but i love waking up to watch one of your new vids!
Damn Elysium! That episode was intense! Seriously, keep it up man, that was amazing.
Good to know Jeb's reputation has some merit. That scene where the first nuke detonated deserves to be in a movie!
*Watches asteroid explode along with the corvette and slow take off hat in sadness* It did what it needed to do and it was a good thing too... R.I.P Corvette :(
Good point... 10x smaller planet... jesus, that's actually a pretty big threat!
Jeb deserves both a promotion and the freaking medal of honor
I think they might have well been, I thought we got more deltaV than that but apparently not.
Yup, small meteors are the only time a nuke would be any good at the conventional 'blow-it-up' technique.
The ending reminded me of the first part of "heavy metal" great video by the way.
Thank man! I'm probably going to make a channel trailer soonish.
Post-production. :D Honestly, there are some amazing tutorials around on the web and other youtubers who specialise in VFX are a mine of information.

Great episode! :D Would love to see some more crazy designs and stuff, subscribed!
I'm UK, so I set it to upload at 5:30 and went to bed...
I really wanted to keep my promise of a Friday release, it was still friday somewhere... right?
Amazing asteroid! :P Really though, this series is awesome and you've gotten yourself another sub :D
No one has commented on the 10 second asteroid clip at the beginning that took 3hrs to render? For shame!
The two nukes? We managed to sneak them to orbit again, under our fairings and by distracting the NAT representative with cake.
It's already been released. Not this variant. Check out the irregular round-up episodes for information like that.
About impact damage? Nah, there was a joint academic project to make a website that calculates yield and effect of impacts. Google "asteroid impact calculator" and you'll get it (two versions, old - which allows speeds of sub 11km/s, and new - which is prettier). It is, FASA Asteroids I believe they are called. Good little mod.
5:46 *yelling at screan* STOP THE SPIN STOP THE SPIN STOP THE FREAKING SPIN ~ victem of OCD
Very nice effects, getting better and better !
I love Kirrim. Jeb's intro was always going to be epic but I would attribute some of the overblown hype to watching Special Agent Kirrim too much.
By Far, Jedediah Kerman's Finest hour. Putting a monument for this asteroid in my world.
Call me crazy, but the music when Jeb renters sounds like the beginning of Heavy Metal when the astronaut re-enters the atmosphere in his 63 Corvette. Awesome movie, a little bit adult and drunk oriented, but good.
Apparently I warp the fabric of the space-tube continuum to violate the basic principles of TH-cam. o.O
You only forgot ONE thing. The exploding spacestation and the russian who smacks the engine with a wrench to fix it. An amazing homage to Armageddon.
As stated in an early video it was due to a semi-regular fly-by.
Jeb deserves the Elysium honor, Given to those who show extreme valor and perhaps stupidity in times of desperate circumstances.
Interesting point: It was Notch who almost scuppered Minecraft and not Jeb.
Elysium, you are awesome, keep up the good work, and you'll be one of the greats!
If by 'disty a city' you mean 'never reach the ground due to burning up LONG before anyone even notices'... then yes.
