the first time i saw this episode, i only knew who cyndi lauper was XD (well i recognized michael bolton from the irs episode and usher looked vaguely familiar)

Wait... those shows deleted their old libraries of episodes? Why? How far back did they delete to? Seems like such a crazy thing to delete so much data that no one else has access to, and that is a useful tool in understanding public perception of historical events.

And they deleted the entire Colbert report.
And why?
Official explenation was "it costs too much to keep it online".
They probably still have back ups somewhere in a storage building but the entire online library is just.......gone.
@@nielsmichiels1939 that's wack. I'm glad you didn't mean they deleted the back ups too, but that's equally weird for such a big show to complain about server storage space. It's never been cheaper, and that will only continue to become more and more true as time goes on since data storage technology will continue to get better and better.

This hurts so much to watch now. I remember when I still believed Trump was just a joke, and not a clear and present danger to our existence.
I just said that to my boss, how every year my FB post from the day he announced in 2015 comes up: "I don't know if Trump is the best thing to happen to the GOP, or the worst - but I guess we'll find out!" EVERY YEAR I feel a new pain of not realizing what was happening in that moment... FB will never let me forget.

Trump’s speech was rather historic in nature.
That's what happens when a political party's ideologies are not based in any form of reality. It started with attacking science, and the scientific method, while pretending that anything written in the Bible is fact.
Except now the Genitally Obsessed Party screams “facts don’t care about your feelings!!” at Dems. The right has lost all shame and blatantly celebrate their own hypocrisy.
It's far less stressful watching this show later, knowing this is all in the past. I know exactly how it turned out and I feel like my current concerns are so much worse.

Except once again, America is being asked to vote against Trump, but this time everyone knows what will happen if he wins. You don't necessarily have to love whoever is the Democratic nominee in November, but the world can't allow the US to be overrun with literal fascism. They're far too influential in our world for them to be taken over by someone like Trump and the Heritage Foundation. Most left leaning news outlets, pundits and youtubers love to talk logically about how top republicans are lying, saying stupid things and generally behaving badly. "Look at that stupid thing Trump just said. This time we got him!" But since republican voters have long since stopped caring about facts in favour of feelings, this kind of reporting, that would have brought any previous president down, has zero impact on them. When conspiracy theories have become the political standard, you can rationalise anything away.
Think about how Obama "went high when they went low" and handed the republicans the supreme court. He did the honourable thing to do, and now the republicans are are banning abortions, as was their plan all along.
How do you fight undemocratic powers using democratic means?
One thing I noticed, this audience hasn't been through a Trump presidency or Covid, they seem much happier to laugh.
