Rochelle of Everybody Hates Chris is just as real as any of the other characters that you liked. Also, I can tell by your choices how old you are. I aged out of Nickelodeon by the time Kenan and Kel were a thing, so I have not seen one minute of it.
I remember how Key and Peele joked about Family Matters went from a middle class Cosby Show to Quantum Leap cause of all the Urkel focus. And Black-ish, while good, had moments where the father was acting like he was the mouthpiece for everything Black and was emotionally abusive towards his oldest son.
@@kadeemjones30 I love the fact Kenan acknowledged that Kel was the more comedic one of the 2. Kel was able to do physical comedy, which is something Kenan has had trouble with.

Sometimes I feel like you let the message of the show overtake the quality of the show. Martin is #2 at least but the main gripe I had was the placement of Everybody Hates Chris. I agree with you about his mom but it’s still a great show unfortunately its relatable to lots of people and is a more accurate experience of growing up than a show like Fresh Prince. I get you on not liking trauma in content but I feel like you negatively review anything that embraces darker topics in the black community even when they’re true! Mama's Family slapped, just because of Viki Lawrence. Every Show you listed slapped for me, but I'm old enough to remember Mama's Family when it first dropped, so my taste's are maybe a little different. I agree with everything you said about SNL though. The best Eras for that Show was The Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi Era, and the entire 90's and Early to Mid 00's.
Good Times was a show as an adult I grew to hate. Mainly because of the mama 😂 it was like everytime they gotten a chance to make extra money no matter what, here she comes with her “what would Jesus do” ass 🙄. That’s why James faked his death and moved to MS on the slick 😂

The early seasons of Family Matters were top tier but it became too over the top with the inventions and when the family started disappearing. Also, an underated Black sitcom to me was Amen, it may not have great rewatchability but it was great for it's time.
Best: 1. A Different World 2. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 3. Living Single 4. Martin (as mid as it is now, it was cool when I was growing up) 5. The Cosby Show Worst: 1. Good Times (I have my reasons) 2. Everyone Hates Chris 3. Moesha (for Kim) Side note 1: I am not a fan of Family Matters now because of Urkel, but I feel like Carl Winslow was one of the best dads on television-right up there with Philip Banks. That's why I couldn’t list it in my worst category. Side note 2: I'm iffy on “What's Happening” only because Norman Lear did Eric Monte dirty. You can tell the quality of the writing changed when Mr. Monte was fired & blacklisted. I'm so glad Mr. Monte got the help he needed & I truly hope he gets his flowers!
I agree with everything, EXCEPT Moesha. Man, Kim was one of the funniest characters on that show. The writers could never figure out what to do with her. They went back and fourth making her smart one moment and dumb the next. I definitely agree about Carl Winslow. Although he couldn't stand Steve, he treated him like one of his own kids and was more supportive than Steve's actual parents.
My list of "Black Funny" will always be...... * Hangin' With Mr. Cooper * Tyler Perrys House Of Payne * Martin * Dave Chappelle Show * In Living Color * Family Matters * Good Times * The Wayans Brothers * Everybody Hates Chris * The Game 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
A Different World is my favorite TV show. I can watch it over and over and it’s like I’m watching it for the first time. It inspired me to go to college. Parent ‘Hood is another favorite. I recently binge watched on Tubi 😊
I had cable off and on growing up and something that was always on network tv was the Cosby. However I feel about the man, the show was funny, it was clever and often the slow burning comedy in the scenes made for great rewatches.
Favorites Growing Up: 1. Martin 2. Jamie Foxx Show 3. Family Matters 4. Wayans Brothers 5. Fresh Prince Please KIll Me: 1. Good Times 2. Amen(literally my granny's fav show 😫) 3. Different Strokes(theme song is probably my Winter Soldier trigger) 4. That's So Raven 5. Gimme a Break
@@roselynholloway7863 I like “Gimme a Break”, but it did jump the shark once the Lawrence brothers got cast. I think that was the first show I watched where one of the main actors passed away during its run. I was so heartbroken when the chief died.
For me, it’s tough because my #1 is neck and neck but: 1. The Fresh Prince/Living Single 2. A different world 3. The Steve Harvey Show 4. Moesha 5. Martin Honorable mentions: 227, Everybody Hates Chris, The Wayans Bros., and The Jamie Foxx show. I rate these shows based on rewatch, impact, characters, and the writing lol.
As far as black kids shows on Nickelodeon, My Brother and Me will always be the best to me. Kenan and Kel was awesome, but My Brother and Me just felt so relatable. Probably the blackest show that channel will have ever done.

@@Jamal-bl7yh I wouldn’t consider “The Parent ‘Hood” as a “hood sitcom”. Minus the cop shows, I also watched a lot of white sitcoms. Depending on your age, you may not have had much of a choice. I grew up watching Married with Children, ALF, Family Ties, Mr. Belvedere, Growing Pains, Cheers, Night Court, Charles in Charge, Roseanne, Spin City (though my preference will always be Fox over Sheen), the Tracey Ullman Show, The Wonder Years, Full House, Boy Meets World, The Hogan Family, and Who's the Boss. I wasn’t too big on Home Improvement, but I knew enough to have conversations. I need a definition of a “hood sitcom”.
Kenan and Kel was a must watch as a kid. We all knew how every episode would end but still had to see how it would happen it was hilarious as a kid. That’s so Raven was just Gen Z version of Kenan and Kel. My brother and Me was my underrated Nickelodeon black kids show.

Great job man!! I always love hearing your ressons for liking or disliking shows. Even when it's something that I like. Agree wholeheartedly with you, on the Parent'Hood being underrated. That show just doesn't seem to receive the love & respect that it deserves, & i'll never understand why. It was one of my all time fave WB shows, & man did i ever have a crush on Reagan Gomez Preston! She still looks good! A Different World's greatest achievement was introducing the rest of the world to HBCUs, & that was a massive accomplishment. Despite Bill Cosby's crimes, the Cosby Show is still one of the most important black shows of all time, for all the reasons addressed, in this video. It's certainly much much too important, to bury, & ignore, because of the crimes of its star & creator. It's a damn shame & travesty that most networks are not airing it, nowadays! Fresh Prince has definitely always been one of my all time faves. It's funny as hell, & the writing on that show, was just amazing. I actually lived my own Fresh Prince of Bel-Air real life experience. I went to live with my rich aunt & uncle, when i was 19, in Houston, & i got a bit of a taste of the same culture shock, that Will experienced. Though, unlike Will's character, I'm not from the inner city, but from a tiny, backwoods town, that doesn't even have its own post office, & both my parents raised me. Still, my experience in Houston, living in my aunt & uncle's mansion, was a very Fresh Prince type experience. I love me some Sanford & Son, cause of my dad, who introduced me to the series, as a kid, & i still lmao at it, till this day. Family Matters, still one of my all time fave shows. Carl Winslow is one of the greatest tv dads, ever. Yes they did have white writers, but the show was still highly entertaining, & Steve Urkel is one of the most recognizable & iconic tv characters, ever. Everybody knows who Urkel is, & for a time, in the '90s, Urkel was the man!! Gotta say, Laura was the true villain of the series, & most people are realizing that, nowadays, lol. Some highly underrated black shows, not included here, are the Wayans Brothers, Smart Guy, Roc, & Sister Sister. Especially Sister Sister!! Oh, also just wanted to say that i hate Blackish too, for all the same reasons, stated in this video.
I disagree with 1. Cosby show number one over A Different World 2. Everybody Hates Chris great show 3. What's Happening has zero parallels to Good Times 4. You're nuts Sanford and Son was groundbreaking in terms of a single Black father with his son who ran a business it may not have been lucrative but they were living it was so successful they tried a "White version" which would be Chico The Man with Freddie Prinze
This is a great series. If if wasn’t for Steve Urkel Family Matters would have been another forgotten short lived sitcoms. I like Everybody Hates Chris because i was just like Chris growing up. When it comes to black sitcoms there are four tiers. Tier one are the classics which consist of: Sanford & Son Good Times The Jeffersons The Cosby Show A Different World Family Matters The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Martin Living Single Sister, Sister Moesha Girlfriends The Bernie Mac Show Blackish Growish Tier two consists of the underrated sitcoms such as: What’s Happening What’s Happening Now 227 Amen Roc Hangin With Mr. Cooper The Parenthood The Wayans Bros The Jamie Foxx The Steve Harvey Show The Hughleys In The House Malcolm & Eddie The Parkers My Wife & Kids Eve For Your Love Half & Half One On One Everybody Hates Chris The Game Are We Done Yet The Carmichael Show Marlon The Last OG The Upshaws Family Time Love That Girl Cousin Skeeter That’s So Raven Raven’s Home Tier 3 consists of the forgotten short lived sitcoms: That’s My Mama Grady The Sanford Arms Sanford The Robert Gulliame Show Charlie & Company Baby I’m Back Checking In A New Kind Of Family Bustin Loose Frank’s Place New Attitude The Royal Family You Take The Kids Sugar & Spice Rhythm & Blues Baghdad Cafe Thea Out All Night True Colors My Brother & Me Tall Hopes South Central Me & The Boys Under One Roof The Gregory Hines Show The Sinbad Show Between Brothers The Tracy Morgan Show The First Family Mixed-Ish Dad Stop Embarrassing Me The Wonder Years Minor Adjustments Built To Last Homeroom Grown Ups Lincs Getting Personal Sparks The Redd Foxx Show All About The Andersons 704 Hauser 413 Hope Street Damon Good News Good Behavior Read Between The Lines Singer & Sons Brewster Place Home Room Where I Live Getting By On Our Own Isabel’s Place How High Tier 4 consists of the pliots that were never picked up: Jackee Coming To America (There was a Coming To America sitcom) Going For Mine Bow A Little Bit Strange
And Don't forget about that TV Show Home Room it came one AbC back in 89 if you don't remember that show check it out on You Tube. And that TV Show Where I Live and The Sinbad Show.
The Bernie Mac show can also go into underrated or rather under appreciated because it still holds up and i barely see people give it the credit it deserves.

I heard you out on everything until you hit Everybody Hates Chris and Sanford & Son, but good video! Not liking Everybody Hates Chris because of Rochelle isn't really a big reason to not like it. The show is called "Everybody Hates Chris", what do you expect? For everything else, I've seen clips of Fresh Prince (pretty powerful and interesting), I watched the pilot of Martin on Netflix (good, but not LOL funny), same with Kenan & Kel (good, but kinda funnier and memorable), I saw A Different World maybe one time, but don't know, so no opinion, never watched The Cosby Show, The Parent Hood, or Family Matter, I seen What's Happening!! here and there, but never cared for it, Everybody Hates Chris and Sanford & Son are classics obviously, and never cared for black-ish either. Here's some more I've seen (more are timeless and classics): The Jeffersons Good Times The Parkers Moesha (I never really got into it mostly because someone kinda spoiled what it would later turn into and it messed me up, but maybe I'll rewatch in the future.) One on One Sister, Sister (this show was funny than I expected and also kinda underrated.) My Wife and Kids (only saw one episode on Netflix, but I enjoyed it.) Girlfriends (this was good too.) The Game (it was alright.) Amen (I saw it here and there.) Gimme a Break (saw it here and there.) Different Strokes (saw it here and there.) The Hughleys (I saw there a long time ago.) The Bernie Mac Show (this was childhood on Netflix.) Some other I haven't seen yet: Living Single (I want to see it badly especially for Queen Latifah.) The Jamie Foxx Show Roc Hanging with Mr Cooper In the House In Living Color So yeah, for me, as a 16 year old black kid, I personally have enjoyed most black sitcom back in the day, don't have one I hate or dislike, just some I never cared for. But this was nice to hear your opinions, love your videos.
I thought Family Matters was good in the beginning as the show progressed we got Urkel bot Urkel as Elvis. the last season they added a new Harriet it was just bad.
Loved the video friend and I honestly agree with most of these takes. I was in college during the peak of Blackish and I tried watching it during lockdown and it was so boring & the jokes were not that funny. I get what they were going for but it was just so bland. Kenan & Kel is definitely one of the best kid shows of all time. It came out at the right time and was just so funny . Drake & Josh is the white version of that show and it’s a close second for comedy for me. I wish they had a crossover even tho K & K was over way before D & J even started production.
Family matters was good in the moment but I can't go back now and watch it now like I do the others . Still to this day I watch Martin,Jamie fox, wayans brothers, parent hood. Bernie Mac and others.
I liked most of the shows on the disliked list. Yes, I watched more than half of Chris after it went off the air, but there are a few shows I later wish I paid more attention to when they were on the air. What's Happening is iconic, but I only rarely watched it when the re-Runs ran on a heavy rotation
SpongeBob is definitely based off Good Burger From the goofy fast food worker, the Patty Mobile, the gap in the teeth, showering with the work clothes on, even the competition across the street They were the blueprint for sure
That's true about everybody hates Chris I even said that about myself I remember when this show came out and seeing the advertisement for it because it came on upn I never took the time to watch it but it was a good show. It's a shame that people including me pick up on it after the fact is a shame. Really show go on the underrated list just for the simple fact that it gain so much popularity after the fact.

1 underrated show imo that doesn't get enough credit is The Bernie Mac Show
Bruh! I hated that MASH theme music too. You had me rolling. That definitely was me running to turn the TV off when heard that music.😂 Great video!

Sanford & Son was a great show, ROC was a great show as well, very underrated
@@Reevesbeatz1 Both of those shows are in my Top 5.
Definitely ROC❤
I remember how Key and Peele joked about Family Matters went from a middle class Cosby Show to Quantum Leap cause of all the Urkel focus. And Black-ish, while good, had moments where the father was acting like he was the mouthpiece for everything Black and was emotionally abusive towards his oldest son.
Key and Peele weren't wrong lol! Blackish didn't feel like it was for me 😂. Too many explanations of being black
@@ddconwaysnostalgicloungeThere were too many light skin people on that show.

Even though Kel used to do the absolute most every episode Kennan & Kel is without a doubt one of the greatest TV shows on Nickelodeon
@@kadeemjones30 I love the fact Kenan acknowledged that Kel was the more comedic one of the 2. Kel was able to do physical comedy, which is something Kenan has had trouble with.

All classics
@@SimplyExplained90 Yeah bruh definitely lost me on Sanford & Son. I said if he got this or Good Times on the worst list, he done lost his damn mind lol.
Other than that though I loved the video and agreed with your commentary, can’t wait for the rest of this series!
I respect this opinion, I'll challenge myself more.
@@ddconwaysnostalgiclounge look forward to seeing more of that! Love your channel, one of the few channels that really feels authentic in this lane.

Oh you Wilin for having Sanford & Son as #1, that shit was hilarious 😂😂 it was nigga sh*t which I love lol. but it’s preference, so I understand. Even so, these are solid lists 💯 and thank you for shouting out tha Parent Hood!
Jaleel just said people ignored the show because it wasn't cool enough and everyone swore he was being a jerk. HE WAS RIGHT. People made him feel like he was crazy for saying that.

5. The Bernie Mac Show
6. Girlfriends
@@rachelmartin5187 We don't talk about One on One's last season.
Agreed. Just the first four 😔
Mama's Family slapped, just because of Viki Lawrence. Every Show you listed slapped for me, but I'm old enough to remember Mama's Family when it first dropped, so my taste's are maybe a little different. I agree with everything you said about SNL though. The best Eras for that Show was The Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi Era, and the entire 90's and Early to Mid 00's.
i loved mamas family too, i watched it when i was 7 or 8 and it was hilarious
Good Times was a show as an adult I grew to hate. Mainly because of the mama 😂 it was like everytime they gotten a chance to make extra money no matter what, here she comes with her “what would Jesus do” ass 🙄. That’s why James faked his death and moved to MS on the slick 😂
Lmao I totally understand this point of view and I'm not mad at it at all😂
Just because of the mom isn't really a criticism to hate a show, at least to me, just saying, no hate.
The show itself was pretty funny.
@@NicoLodge but name a episode they actually had a “Good Time”? Never said the show wasn’t funny. But overall was depressing if you ask me
@@NicoLodge plus the show ended with the mama moving out the hood with a man, the same thing her family been tryna do for the whole series but couldn’t because she stopped everything everytime she had a chance.
@@NicoLodge It's actually more than fair. With criticism usually comes with someone wanting some type of change.
A person saying why they don't like a character isn't really criticism, you are getting that persons opinion or perspective on what made them like or dislike a show.

Ayo it’s criminal that you never even mentioned Bernie Mac Show
Right!
Going through the whole list of black sitcoms so it'll be on here eventually
If you were in high school in the 90s, different world had you wanting to go college. People always got on Cosby for not helping black folk on TV, but this show helped a lot of black people.
PLENTY! Probably doesn't get the respect he deserves show-wise for sure

I cant believe living single wasnt mentioned😭😭
It will be in the future, for sure😂💯
The early seasons of Family Matters were top tier but it became too over the top with the inventions and when the family started disappearing. Also, an underated Black sitcom to me was Amen, it may not have great rewatchability but it was great for it's time.
Wayyyyy over the top
Best:
1. A Different World
2. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
3. Living Single
4. Martin (as mid as it is now, it was cool when I was growing up)
5. The Cosby Show
Worst:
1. Good Times (I have my reasons)
2. Everyone Hates Chris
3. Moesha (for Kim)
Side note 1: I am not a fan of Family Matters now because of Urkel, but I feel like Carl Winslow was one of the best dads on television-right up there with Philip Banks.
What's wrong with Good Times and Everything Hates Chris?
My list of "Black Funny" will always be......
* Hangin' With Mr. Cooper

I think two other underrated black sitcoms would be The Bernie Mac Show and Roc.

5. Martin
Honorable mentions: 227, Everybody Hates Chris, The Wayans Bros., and The Jamie Foxx show.
Entitled to your opinion on Sanford. I respect the bravery😂. I just wish you gave more explanation. You explained the lower ranked shows more.
I respect your opinion and even though I liked black~ish you broke the show down pretty perfectly and I will admit seasons 1-5 was good but the last 3 seasons didn’t hit like they used to

My top 5 no order: Martin, fresh price, my wife and kids, Bernie Mac, everybody hates chris.
Once Kenan grew his hair. The show became literally flawless. Tht last season was flawless top to bottom. Tears still till this very day.

Gotta give a shout-out to Half & Half. Dealt with some real topics (like Mona being Black enough, and Charles' neglect of Mona) but still managed to be funny. Also the back and forth between Phyllis and Big Dee Dee was so good!

A underrated black sitcom I think is Hanging with Mr Cooper that’s a very funny show Especially the first season I can watch that first season over and over
I was getting ready to automatically start hating because of Martin in your thumbnail 😂
Yay! I was looking forward to this video fr.
Thank you for the continued support fr🙏🏾
I disagree with
1. Cosby show number one over A Different World
2. Everybody Hates Chris great show

Here's some more I've seen (more are timeless and classics):
The Jeffersons
Good Times
The Parkers
Moesha (I never really got into it mostly because someone kinda spoiled what it would later turn into and it messed me up, but maybe I'll rewatch in the future.)
One on One
Sister, Sister (this show was funny than I expected and also kinda underrated.)
My Wife and Kids (only saw one episode on Netflix, but I enjoyed it.)
Girlfriends (this was good too.)
The Game (it was alright.)
Amen (I saw it here and there.)
Gimme a Break (saw it here and there.)
Different Strokes (saw it here and there.)
The Hughleys (I saw there a long time ago.)
The Bernie Mac Show (this was childhood on Netflix.)
Some other I haven't seen yet:
Living Single (I want to see it badly especially for Queen Latifah.)
The Jamie Foxx Show
Roc
Hanging with Mr Cooper
In the House
In Living Color
So yeah, for me, as a 16 year old black kid, I personally have enjoyed most black sitcom back in the day, don't have one I hate or dislike, just some I never cared for. But this was nice to hear your opinions, love your videos.

I liked most of the shows on the disliked list. Yes, I watched more than half of Chris after it went off the air, but there are a few shows I later wish I paid more attention to when they were on the air. What's Happening is iconic, but I only rarely watched it when the re-Runs ran on a heavy rotation
SpongeBob is definitely based off Good Burger
From the goofy fast food worker, the Patty Mobile, the gap in the teeth, showering with the work clothes on, even the competition across the street
They were the blueprint for sure
That's true about everybody hates Chris I even said that about myself I remember when this show came out and seeing the advertisement for it because it came on upn I never took the time to watch it but it was a good show. It's a shame that people including me pick up on it after the fact is a shame. Really show go on the underrated list just for the simple fact that it gain so much popularity after the fact.
