Yea, i thought the same first listen. And honestly I realized I'm mostly wrong, I'm also a not loving a song at first listen often. I love seeing first reactions, but ironically I often miss the magic on first try.
Listening to it at a lower volume helps, as well. Sounds tend to get muddy when you increase the volume. If I’m trying to listen to the mix of something, I always listen to it at a level that you would use for background noise. It sounds counterintuitive, but it works. Oddly enough, my iPhone’s speakers make this album sound amazing for some reason. Absolutely nothing overshadows anything else, but you can really hear everything everyone is doing clearly.
I think the face Myles made in the beginning was pure relief when the orchestra kicked in 😂 on the DVD it showed them rehearsing this song & the orchestra wasn’t coming in at the right time so there was a bit of panic but they nailed it on the night 🤘
Love this song! Really moody and ominous in the intro, and then ‘Boom!’ It explodes! Great blend of their two voices in the chorus (wish they did that more again now - they usually layer Myles over himself now - which still sounds good, but not the same), and then that bridge sung by both, and accented with little supercharged guitar solos! Killer hard rock sound! Doesn’t get much better than this anywhere 💪
I was there. Absolutely the best concert I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen all the rock greats. AB ranks right up there as one of the best rock bands of all time. Wonderful, thoughtful songs and what musicianship!!
Myles isnt 20 yrs younger than Bruce. Only 10. I love Dickinson btw! Love Myles too - maybe slightly more, for some of the same reasons as Bruce (big vocal range) and different (timbre, and musicianship)… Both awesome and perfectly suited to their bands💪

In fact, the low microphone levels were just an engineering mistake. If you listen to the whole concert, you'll discover that the engineers fix the issue. The mix is far more cohesive throughout the rest of the show.

the perfomance is live, but the mix is not! What you do is you record the performance to a multitrack session and it is mixed later in a seperate mixing session at a studio and after that it is mastered in a mastering studio. So what you hear now, in terms of balance and sound, has nothing to do with what you would hear at the show. The multitracks are split signals of the mic input, so usually there is nothing on these split signals of the audio processing, the live-engineer does to it. maybe there is just a little bit of bleed of the live mix, you get with the ambient mics, you cover the audience with. it is always very difficult to fit a whole orchestra, which is meant to cover everything you need for a song, from low to high, melody, rhythm, solos etc., with a complete rock band, which is also meant to cover the whole spectrum for a song. So i guess, as long the special thing about this gig is the orchestra, they choose to have the orchestra sit in the mix as equal as other instruments. But with this it comes that it gets a little bit sharp in the mids with gits and his voice, i get what you mean and i am with you on this. What can be, sometimes you have a lot of bleed across the mics, for example the vocals mic does not just pick up the vocals it also picks up anything else. This stage is big but it´s pretty packed and an orchestra is loud, i mean they are meant to play without mics in big rooms. So if you have a lot of orchestra bleed f.e. on a vocal mic you will add that bleed tp the mix with the vocal mic. Ok you somebody may think, why not just to lower the volume of the orchestra mics in the mix if you have it with the vocals mic and balance it to the volume you want to have it. The problem is, the orchestra bleed on the vocal mics sounds realy bad, because it is picked up by a mic that is far away from the orchestra. So you always have to compromise here and there, when you have loud instruments together picked up by a lot of mics, it is nor a studio recording, it is just a studio mix! Sorry i am not native engl. ...but.i hope you all get what i mean^^
This is one of the only times I’ve ever requested something like this, but I think you’ll absolutely love it. If you can, React to Resolve - Older Days ft paleface Swiss and Ten56. It’s probably the best metalcore, heavier collab in the last 5 years and there’s so many varying styles to get into and breakdown ontop of it just being a beautiful one take vocal production I think you’ll appreciate 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Seen AB live back in 2018 and all I can say is that Miles and Mark are an unfair level of good.
