Weight Map Direct Editing Modes : Additive is the default painting mode. Subtractive mode is activated by holding down the ALT key. Smoothing mode is activated by holding down the CTRL key.
Just started poking around with this tonight, though I've used a few other 3rd party plug-ins for dynamic draping, my main one at the moment is one such that add scripts to the Optitex full program which allows you to drape any static object over pretty much anything (and rig it later for clothing if you so desire). While from viewing your tuts, I'd say the 3rd party plugins are a bit less involved, however they aren't nearly as quick for getting a repeatable drape to tweak something, and outside of reworking a mesh with welding polys, most clothing isn't readily usable without exploding bits. I like that now there's a new option to do it all inside DS. One other trick for selecting bits outside of the sometimes hit and miss paint option (for anyone who is curious too), you can open the Geometry Edit tab and either drag or lasso polys then go back into the paint section and either fill or unfill to whatever percentage you want with a right click and fill by weight (very bottom of the menu, then mouse over to the very top of the expanded menu). Though the lasso like many modeling programs is an all-the-way-through cut/slice tool, so watch that backside. Last little nitpick if you'll allow it; since you're using spot lights in your scene, you can turn off the preview lights and it will take out that back shadowing so you can see 360* in the viewport. It works without any lights as well and, in my experience anyway, it's a lot easier to set up a scene. I turn the center of the headlamp on the camera tab to 0, 0, 0 on the xyz coords so its centered as well, then turn it off completely and you still have some light to see your scene. Come render time you won't have that annoying artificial light to deal with either. I picked up some tricks from your other videos on this new piece, so I thank you for that!
I love these tutorials! Thank you a million times a million! Will applying dForce work on almost all clothing materials? For Genesis, G2, G3 or is it for G8 clothing only?
It should work on any mesh that's modelled correctly - obviously unconnected pieces won't stay together without doing some tweaking with weightmaps. I haven't tested on other figures but there's no reason why it shouldn't be possible :)
The look you get depends on how the mesh was constructed. If its lower poly with larger polygons it will look like stiffer material with less folds because a polygon can't bend in the middle. The denser the mesh the more folds you get, but it will also be more unpredictable and take longer to simulate.
Thanks for the great tutorial :) Is there a way to export or save this dforce applied outfit for use by other figures? Or do I have to do all this every time?
You can save it for future use so that you don't have to redo it every time... make sure you have genesis figure selected in the scene tab, then File -> save as -> Wearable preset, untick items you don't want saved (like eyelashes etc) and then click accept. It should load with the new weightmap and dforce settings you created when you click the wearable preset. :)
I still wanted the shirt to interact with them and drape over the top of the belt :) The ties were causing a dent in the shirt. With the newer versions of DS you can just click the button for Visible in Simulation to turn it on and off instead of hiding it.
When I go to add Dforce I don't have the "modifier and simulation settings" I only have "add dforce dynamic surface" and "add static surface" and I can't edit it in the weight node tool at all.
DS updated a couple of times since I made this video - you want add dforce dynamic surface . To edit in the weight node tool you need to hold down the alt key while painting to subtract. Hope that helps :)
Can you export JUST the weight map and re-apply it later? The only option I've found is to save the entire garment with the weight map, but if I wanted to let others use my weight map, I can't give them the garment as it would violate the EULA.
If you want to share the new weightmap you can do that by saving your item as a wearable preset. Select Genesis figure, then File -> Save As -> Wearable preset. Now select the item with the new weightmap and untick everything else and save with a preset name. The wearable preset will have the weightmap info embedded.
Could you tell me where I am going wrong? Please? 1. I opened a Gen8 Character and with no other items only put on the dress on her. 2. The dress is not dforce compliant. 3. So I selected only the top's surface; bec I wanted her sleeve to flow down for a simple tray serving pose I created. 4. I applied dforce - Dynamic and mesh resolution to basic and bilinear - then created the pose and saved the first pose to memory. I made sure that I selected the 30 frame timeline and to start from the shape of first pose shape in the timeline. 5. I Started the Dforce Simulation - it did all the calculation and then - simulating animation at 1% and gets stuck there! Please tell me in your experience - did I do something wrong? Thanking you for any advise. Yaz
Hi Yaz - that sounds like you're doing everything right, are you having trouble simulating other items? or just the one. I have never come across anything where it would stop simulating the animation, it would explode but not stop.
Mada de Leeuw Hi in most cases, where I am simulating compliant ones, have not been a problem. Like you said either they work seemlessly or need a bit of adjustment or explodes. I have not tried other products yet. This product has the TOP n band lower section of the skirt sewn together. Perhaps that could be the cause?
@@aograi What about trying to set up a complete new animation timeline, maybe there's something in there that's messing it up? The 2 sections sewn together would explode if it was going to cause a problem. Something I have actually seen is an animation pausing for quite a while before exploding - like the program almost have it solved before it gets out of control :)
@@MadadeLeeuw ie a different pose? Or reduce in timeline? Everytime I redid the the simulation (about 20x or more) I had to reset up the pose. All failed except for one - but the whole figure disappeared and I could not trace it back or do anything as it crashed. Ok another standard pose perhaps?
Hair is problematical since intersections in the model will make it explode very quickly. There's a couple of hairs specifically designed for dForce in the Daz3D store.

Women make much better tutorials as they actually instruct you how to do it step by step...While men yammer on incessantly about every fuckin' useless detail and give the entire history of CGI instead of the instruction on how to fuckin' use the bloody program/plugin!

2:30 Note: on Windows use ALT + LMB to subtractive paint.
Please do more tutorials, they're brilliant!
This helped me a great deal. Thank you! I couldn't figure out how to add deforce to older clothing with buttons, but you made it easy. :D
Thank you Mada,
I needed this for a strapless dress that was falling down with dForce modifier!
Very helpful! :)
Superb, Mada, thank you. You really know your stuff! Your tutorials have been so helpful.
Extremely informative and helpful, thank you
Thank you for this. This helped me a lot! Very good results.

Thanks Mada, this is nice and clear. :)
I would have thought there would be a fold or crease around the deltoid of the raised arm. But with poofy sleeves, it's not that certain.

very nice videos. Thank you Mada
You are most welcome
Thank you so much for this video!
I was wondering... how do you add the genesis icon on top of the tool bar? :o

Wow what video card are you packing super fast ! and thanks for the tutorial !!! :)
Its a 1080 and fast but not that fast - I sped up the draping sections in the video :)
I've got 2X980 Ti but it looks like the 1080 are a good step up, thanks for the info !
Thanks for your kind tutorial!

Thank you for the video..question why did you not just hide the belt and buckle to remove them from the simulation as you did the ties?
I still wanted the shirt to interact with them and drape over the top of the belt :) The ties were causing a dent in the shirt. With the newer versions of DS you can just click the button for Visible in Simulation to turn it on and off instead of hiding it.

@@MadadeLeeuw Hi there.. well I have tried and still the same result.
How does one discover, in general, that the mesh and weight map need to be tweaked in this way?
Usually you can see right away when you simulate, unconnected pieces will drop to the floor :)
Can this process be used on an hair prop? If so can you tell me how? I have a hair prop with a ponytail I would like to simulate. Thanks!
Hair is problematical since intersections in the model will make it explode very quickly. There's a couple of hairs specifically designed for dForce in the Daz3D store.
Mada de Leeuw thank you!
AWESOME!!
I'm trying to view the transcript. Too bad it's in spanish. Is it available in English?
I have no idea why its giving you spanish transcripts, there are none available. Sorry!
Will dForce work with older clothing from Genesis models prior to G8?
Yes - depending on how the mesh was constructed you will probably have to add a weightmap to stop unconnected pieces from falling down :)
Mada de Leeuw Thanks :)
I don't have a simulation window
