we need more entry level videos like this! So much is outdated or not DE relevant glad to see stuff like this!
I always saw it as a double Rock, Paper Scissors.
Infantry counters cav, cav counters artillery, artillery counters infantry. (heavy units)
Infantry counters cav, cav counters artillery, artillery counters infantry. (light units)
with the light version of a unit countering the heavy version
@H4NGM4NDVD that's an interesting way to see it, that logic works too. Whatever makes it easy for you!
The counter sistem in aoe3 is the most complex one by far in all aoe games, that was one of the main reasons people didn´t migrate from aoe2. But I do love it and all its nuances.
The main "issue" I see is that one unit never has just one "counter" Heavy infantry can be countered by light infantry, cannons and even other heavy infantry (if we consider archaic units vs gunpowder units like a pikeman vs musketeer fight) Heavy cav can be countered by heavy infantry, light cavalry or in a certain way "shock infantry" as they are cost efficient units (not a direct counter but works very well, kinda like how aoe2 champions win vs any "trash unit"). So as someone said before in the coments it is almost a double rock-paper-scissors game.
There is also the archaic vs gun tags, that affects how certain units can be better or worse in what they do and how they perform being countered or countering.
And lastly because aoe3 have such diferent civs some can use the "same type of troop" to be cost efficient into countering the very same unit type. Like how Hussars are a good answer to Ulahns since they'll win a direct fight, or how longbowmen will always outperform any x-bow unit, or even the strelsy being cost efficient vs other skirms despite being worse in all other stats, something that is very uncommon in other aoe games.
And that still doesn´t concider the tags of mercenaries, natives and outlaws that add another layer into the game.
Thanks for making things easier for new players
Great video bro. Appreciate these tips and tricks vids
Very educational video. Short and succinct.

Awesome!! I usually only play otto Abus in teamgames with my friends, maybe with some sipahis or cannons for building dmg.
What are some good comps with Ottoman? Almost 100% abus works but feels cheesy
@MrRadamantz the typical composition is jan+abus. Cav archer + abus is very good as well but lacks a front line.
a minor point on hand cav, i think the tag is now not used for any bonuses anymore, i was used iirc on the chinaco but that was changed to heavy cav.
it should be considered as a tag for upgrades like gundpowder or archer units
That is correct! It had confused me on the past, so I figure it's best to think of hand cav the same as heavy cav for bonuses.
Artillery is not only easily taken out by heavy cavalry, but by cavalry in general!
True! But heavy cav do a better job and also I want to keep it simple for new players, not throw too much info all at once
@SoldieRaoe I don't know if they do a better job... yes artillery got range resist but light cav has some pretty steep multipliers against them and they have less pathfinding issues. And I'd say it doesn't get any simpler than just saying that cav counters artillery lol
There is a significant difference between heavy and light cav vs artillery. For example, 2 hussar take out 1 falconet in under 10 seconds, with both hussar living. At range, 2 dragoons actually lose to 1 falconet, and that is considering dragoons are spread out with zero aoe damage.
@@SoldieRaoe Interesting... thank you for educating me
@gunther4150 idk how about other Light Cav units because I main Sweden, but there's a tactic with Hakkapelittas in which you don't shoot artillery, instead you switch your Hakkas to melee mode and then attack artillery.
Personally this kinda helped me understand how much better Heavy cav performs against artillery than light cav.
hi soldier. How can i install anda play thins scenario "time to micro"? i seach in youtube and google and don't find . thank you.
