Turbo Kid was an excellent post-apocalyptic film that I saw which was released fairly recently. It basically is a combination of the action, science fiction, superhero, and post-apocalyptic genres. It's a film where clean water is scarce after wars have ravaged the landscape and a vicious gang strong-arms the surviving population. It's an hidden gem with gratuitous violence and blood. Keep up the good work!

Doubly that for Turbo Kid. I saw it in the theatres and it's like the ultimate italian exploitation post apoc film in it's tones with alot of Dead Alive cartoon violence along with it.

Split Second was an amazing find back in 2019, it was released in 1992, and is a sci-fi horror film that stars Rutger Hauer as a cop from the "near future" of 2008, that goes after a "not so human" killer. It is not exactly a masterpiece, but it is loads of fun.

Pack your stuff and get the heck outta there as fast as you can. It's just a matter of time before a slasher villain turns up. The odds increase exponentially if you happen to spot Donald Pleasence wandering around.

      Revelation 8:7-12
7 The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. *A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.*
8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water- 11 the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.
12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.
What would happen to the grass, trees, rivers, oceans and the sky if there were a string of nuclear attacks around the world? How would a man in 90 A.D. describe technology 2000 years in the future? Would something like an intercontinental ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead look like a mountain ablaze in the ocean when it hit? Would a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) appear to look like a star that breaks up into pieces and hits multiple areas? How would the sky look multiple nuclear blasts? Would it reduce the light from the sun, moon and stars?
      Revelation 6:5-8
5 When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, *“Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages,* and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
--Two pounds of wheat is enough to make two loaves of bread. Imagine needing to spend a whole day's pay just to be able to afford bread.
7 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, *famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.*

Hey, Cecil! I love these kinds of Overlooked Films videos you do! Do you think that for this year you can do a top 10 best of the year and worst of the year videos? Not only do I miss those, since it's been a while since you last did one, but they were also a way for me to discover films that I wasn't aware of! Your top 10 best of lists were among my favorites because of how unique your lists were since you clearly were making up your own mind as to what films you thought were the best and not following what Rotten Tomatoes said or whatever films were trending during awards season. I really hope you plan on returning to those top 10 best of the year videos (and worst of the year videos) again. Please go back to them this year! Thanks, Cecil!

I'm not sure if you have it in a previous video but a TV movie called "Where Have All the People Gone? " is a very doomsday end-of-the-world type film on a budget. Although The movie takes place on the day of the disaster not years afterwards. It stars Peter Graves who some might remember as the host/narrator of "The Light of Zartha" in MIB.

A toy company ripped off the cover art and released a very popular line of military/soldier action figures named SOS Comandos to compete with GI Joes 3 3/4 (named Comandos em Ação here in Brazil). I can think of one post apocalyptic movies that you might find interesting - "The Ultimate Warrior" staring Yul Brenner, Max Von Sydow, and William Smith. It could act as a sequel to "No Blade of Grass" in that it's set in the then year 2012, when all of the grass has died out to to some virus and what's left of mankind is barricaded in a small city block protecting the only clean water and hybrid grain supply. Yup Brenner, wearing his cowboy outfit from "The Magnificent Seven", plays Carson, a warrior for hire, who is tasked with escorting Max Von Sydow's daughter out of the city and to an island off the coast of the Carolina's, where he's heard that society is rebuilding. William Smith plays "Carrot", the leader of the gang sent to stop Carson. It can be found on DVD on a double bill with "Battle Beneath the Earth".

Hell of a batch this time. And not only with the always classy John Saxon, but also with Big Ape himself! I've heard a lot about No Blade of Grass, and it all seems like the movie has the very dark, depressing motif of a lot of 70's sci-fi. Just from the little bit you showed in the video, Knights has some solid fight choreography. Everything I saw looked spot on. Prototype was one of those permanent residents of the video store that was always very noticeable thanks to the costume, but somehow I never got around to watching it. I'll have to correct that.
One question inspired by a photo in the overview of the first movie though. Is corn grass?

Hope you do another one of these, you're the best when it comes to this genre.
One of my favorites is a film called Virus: The Day of Resurrection, which is from the battle royale director, Kinji Fukasaku. It's a got a really engaging story with interesting twists on a large scale, which is amazing given it's budget being the highest in japan. I just looked on TH-cam and found that Knights available on there. It says it was added on there 13 days ago. I thought you might like to know. Thank you for turning me on to this movie.

The plot point of cyborgs using blood as fuel reminds me of Ultrakill’s robots needing blood for fuel.

I'm torn about "Six-String Samurai" not being on the list. (IMHO it should be mandatory viewing for all Fallout: New Vegas players)
On one hand, it's an amazing movie, on the other hand, *NOT* being on the list means it's not overlooked?

“The quiet earth” is currently on TH-cam, but it’s super slow moving, and only technically post apocalyptic. More of the “last man on earth” trope. It’s an old NZ film

Too good to be "good bad." On the other hand, Def-Con 4 is just bad enough to be.

90's me watched so many of these movies mentioned in this series, that or either all the covers are super familiar. Because then it was all about the cover art.

Hunter Prey (2010) I remember enjoying watching. Not heavy post apocalypse more sci-fi, does take place in the desert. I'd be interesting in hearing what others think of it.

I haven't seen a "new" post-apocalyptic film in years. The last one was _The Bad Batch,_ and I'm not sure if that wasteland was really a post-apocalyptic world or just the wilderness where the future society throws away its parias. I liked that movie but I don't know if recomend it, its a very "artsy for stoners" romp
