As someone who lives in Illinois, where the winters can easily fall below 0, and the summers can easily hit 100 degrees, I declare that Castform is 100% correct

that is not even an real word or a number idiot
I agree as well

“I was tired of my mental health depending on the actions of men I don’t know” is such an amazing quote. I need to use that
Michael: "Obviously Koraidon has be Scooby."
Mabosstiff: "Am I a joke to you?"
Run roh
Ruh roh, Rarvin
Ruh roh means spirit of God I guess
@@maazfarhantheepicgamer311Spirit of god, rarvin
I mean, really, both have different aspects of Scooby's role. Koraidon definitely has more of Scooby's personality, while Mabosstiff is the "Shaggy" of the group's pet and best friend.
In case anyone was wondering: Water, flying, and psychic were the only types to be paired with every other type at least once, prior to Gen IX. After Scarlet and Violet, grass (through Scovillain), fighting (through Pawmot and Iron Valiant), electric (through Pawmot and Iron Hands), and dark (through Lokix) have also been paired with every other type at least once.
9:28 In the Scarlet/Violet books, Koraidon is referred to as “Winged King” and Miraidon is referred to as “Iron Serpent”
I knew the Iron Serpent but god Winged King is frickin badass
I named my ride Mirador iron serpent
Also, I'm pretty sure the new strong Pokémon the post was talking about were the paradox Pokémon. who in turn have weird code names.
Scientific Name for Miraidon: Ferrum Hydrus.

Not only did Mikey predict so many Gen 9 concepts for new mons, but HE LITERALLY GOT TWO OF THE NEW LEGENDARIES BASICALLY SPOT ON
It’s spring right now, and in one day it went from cloudy, to sunny, to thundering, to tornado watch, to windy and cloudy. Castform makes perfect sense for Illinois
17:15 this was the ice storm that indirectly fucked up my return journey from South America and literally thousands of other flights were cancelled. It was historic
I really love how much happier Mikey is with this new format. It was sad watching him be so frustrated with the past few episodes
Yh I think telling people off really helped lol

Swablu makes sense for Missouri because we always have 50/50 chance for cloudy skys, and we also have crazy weather. In the summer, we have a high chance of rain and in winter we have no snow
As an Arkansas resident (you summoned me) catfish and fishing are popular and the cash in wishcash could also refer to our state having the only currently running diamond mine in the Usa
Thank you Katie for adding my Paradox Eevee into the slideshow and I can't believe Mikey actually said he liked it. An amazing feeling, thank you so much ^^

I actually know why mespirit is in Michigan as a resident. Mespirit is one of the lake trio and Michigan is known for its access to four of the five Great Lakes even sometimes referred to as the start of the inland seas. Since mespirit also resides in a “Great Lake” it does make sense.
But it makes more sense as Wisconsin as it has the great lakes, and has the most lakes of any state
@@rainbowskin3379Michigan has more
@@rainbowskin3379 lies Michigan is the lake state
@@aaeinstein200 it doesn’t sadly but by his logic it would be Alaska with the most lakes
@@NolanHowsorry I meant Great Lakes
7:43 Michigan lake spirit makes sense since it boarders the Great Lakes. Also why is noivern for Virginia? It should be a fox hound.
I think its supposed to represent the Virginia big-eared bat, Virginia's national mammal

Honestly, while I can understand dropping Clodsire for its low bst, it’s actually still a really fun Pokémon to use. I honestly found myself using it to soak up hits and deal damage back even more than my Garganacl at times. It may look not great at first, but at least for playthroughs, it can still pack some power. The main mvps of my SV team were it and my Lokix, so the weaker at face value mons aren’t always a bad option
For the map one, Obstagoon was chosen for Wisconsin because badgers are the state animal. Though, i feel like miltank could have also fit, since Wisconsin is the dairy state.
The cheese state
I wonder why Decidueye is Iowa because as an Iowan the only people that I know that do archery is scouts and we only have owls at stuff like Camp Wyoming where my scout troop went during winter one time
@@sayori3016 I thought it might be because it's the Hawkeye state, and if there is no hawk pokémon (I don't know for sure, there might be), then decidueye is an okay fit I suppose.
@@KingNedya Talonflame is a falcon which is definitely closer than an owl; however, Decidueye is also an archer and thus has an "eagle eye" (or raptor eyes in general, which owls also are).
A deer we have a lot of deer
For Nemona being Daphne in that scooby doo pick it's because danger prone Daphne is the reocurring joke in scooby doo for her character. she constantly gets into danger without thinkin much the way Nemona will rush into battles with literally anything without thinking.
She specifically reminds me of Be Cool Scooby Doo Daphne, the chaotic one. (And also one of the best imo)
Also: pampered rich girl whose father is an extremely famous businessman.
4:19 i love the little detail that their faces arent the exact same even after ditto transforms
kansas is sometimes called the sunflower state and Missouri is where birds are seen leaving and entering as a sign of weather which swablu is a bird with cloud wings

@@RandoSando. I thought it was for a bunch of birds coming to Missouri
I also thought Arven was going to be a twist villain. I remember being like "if you turn out to be evil i'm gonna be pissed" but when I met Mabosstiff, I felt bad for doubting him
(16:16)
I just thought he was gonna be the douchebag rival. I try not to think about twist villains because I've disliked almost all of them.
honestly when I saw Mabosstiff, I thought it would end with the dog dying... I like the fact the HM revived him
I was kinda bummed that he was mean cause the Path of Legends path was the one that most interested me before the games came out. Thankfully they made him likable, unlike Bede, who is probably the only rival I actually hate (I took great pleasure in sweeping his entire team with my Nickit/Thievul every time we met, knowing he couldn't do anything about it 😏).
@@mizusenshi8172 yeah, Arven is one of my favorite pkmn characters ever because he has a great story and a personality I really like. They made him kind of rude at the start but gave him a reason to be rude, and he becomes kinder to the player the more you help him.
Clodsire's stats are much more aggressively minmaxed than Quagsire's (IE its Speed and Sp. Attack were slashed to give it better HP, Attack, and defenses), so it's effectively a good bit stronger even with the same BST.
Honestly, it was pretty good as a defender when I used it in my playthrough
The stats don't matter that much If its a good distribution
small correction, but clodsire's attack stat is lower than quagsire's stat. (75 vs 85)
Godsire
@@adri3939 Ah, it seems I misremembered. Its Defense is also slightly lower than Quag's Sp. Defense (60 vs 65). But those big HP and Sp. Defense buffs make a huge difference in terms of longevity. Plus, it doesn't have a 4x weakness like Quagsire's inability to touch grass, which makes up for having more weaknesses IMO (especially in terms of being a better Unaware wall). And STAB Earthquake means that even with 75 base attack, it's not too passive.
25:07 this is like from that movie where the weather-controlling satellite goes haywire

One of the truest things I've heard this week.
Couldn't agree more
So true though
His name is Michael or Mikey btw.
Why so tue
For the Clodsire one, “Doo” there is more like “Doh-oh”- kinda like Ho-Oh’s name!- with the “Doh” coming from a word that means “earth” in the elemental sense, and the second part meaning “king.” So it’s “King of the Ground,” etc. The translation they used in the meme isn’t WRONG- I just personally prefer mine.

The Clodsire meme at 5:12 is actually viable in english too! Clod, means mud, which is associated with earth. Sire is a term in which people talking to a King or Ruler of some place. So Clodsire is literally just Mud King.

5:00 Pokémon is gonna break the series-long traditions one by one until suddenly, finally, the starters become Rock Ice and Ground type without warning
Giratina being for Ohio is hilarious to me. It references a sign in Ohio that says Hell is Real
Thanks for the explanation. I had no idea about the sign. Lol
Flying was the first in Gen 6, followed by Water with Volcanion’s first event in 2016, followed by Psychic with the Isle of Armor, and in Gen 9, Dark, Electric, Fighting, and Grass
The next closest are Fire (Fairy), Ground (Fairy), Poison (Ice), Dragon (Bug), Ghost (Rock) and Steel (Normal) with one each, then Rock (Normal & Ghost), Bug (Normal & Dragon), Fairy (Fire & Ground) and Ice (Normal & Poison) with two each and then Normal (Ice, Bug, Rock, Steel) with four each.

As someone who lives in Maryland, I think they chose Kelsey over Kingler because Klawf has a blue shiny, and Maryland is known for their blue crabs.
i had a moment where i encountered a horde of zangoose with one seviper and the only thoughts running through my head were "dear god that poor seviper" and "i have to save that seviper"
Hisuian Typhlosion represents Oregon because of the drug leniency and everyone was complaining about it looking drugged out. The only other one I saw that I can explain (if it hasn’t already) is Mesprit for Michigan to represent the great lakes and mesprit being one of the three lake guardians so it sorta makes sense ig.
Giratina Is Ohio because at the time of the video's making, ohio memes were out of control
And Kansas is the sunflower state
Washington the state has 9 different apple types which is why applin is it
Also Montana has a rainbow rock river or lake like ho oh’s seven feathers ( nemerous colors)
It seems North Dakota is a major wrestling state , I live in so if I’m wrong someone please correct me
Ok but, all the professors ARE named after trees/plants. Gen 9 is just weird b/c even tho Turo and Sada are listed as the "professor" for the games, Jacq is much more like the 'professor of the region' given that he developed the pokedex app for Paldea, and his name IS a plant name. Not his english name, but his Japanese name is Zinnia, and all the profs (minus Turo and Sada) are named after plants/trees in Japanese. Most of them keep the plant reference in English but, Jacq didn't (presumably cause we already have a Zinnia character).
turo and sada are named after trees. I looked it up.
@@brody__thekid They literally are not. Not in English or Japanese. In Japanese their names are Futu and Olim (from the latin for 'future' and 'once upon a time' respectively) and their English names, Turo and Sada come from the spanish words futuro and pasada(meaning future and past).
5 seconds on Bulbapedia would have told you this.
Well, I have seen a video about this that explains that Nemona is the true professor becauee her name is very very similiar to a certain type of tree
My theory (and one I've seen posted around a fair bit is that.... Director Clavell is actually the Professor of the Paldea region. His office is set up very similarly to most professors labs, and Clavellina is a type of tree, so even though it's not a perfect match to his name, it is essencially the same thing. Also most of the professors in previous games give you a starter pokemon (Oak, Elm, Birch, Rowan, Juniper, Sycamore - Kanto starter, Kukui - USUM) The only professor that doesn't give you a starter is actually Magnolia from SwSh, so it fits that pattern too.
See, with the sheer number of patterns this generation broke, I find it stupid that people look back at the preceding 8 generations and nearly 30 years of Pokémon's existence and go "well obviously there was never a pattern at all" instead of "Gen 9 is just fucking weird".
15:44 as did I. I got upset and reset when it used Struggle once. I was on vacation at my uncles’ in Finland
11:44 if Zacian can have 780 base stats and a free attack increase simply for existing, Clodsire can have 550 base stats
Unused type combos:
Bug/Dragon
Normal/Bug
Fairy/Fire
Fairy/Ground
Ghost/Rock
Normal/Steel
Normal/Ice
Normal/Rock
Ice/Poison
With the additions of Great Tusk, Iron Valiant, and Pawmot, Fighting is now paired with every type
As mentioned in the video, Scovillain rounds out the Grass type
Also, the addition of Lokix gives us the final Dark type pairing.
Pawmot/Iron Hands also gave us the last Electric pairing in addition to contributing to Fighting.
The type with the most unused combos is (surprisingly) Normal, and there's (also surprisingly) only two Fairy combos left to be used.
Edit: Dragon/Fairy could be added to this list if you don't count mega evolutions.
Slither Wing should have been Bug/Dragon
I hate to be that guy but, quick correction: Poison still has an unused type combo, you even listed it, Ice/Poison
@@Astrojandro yeahhh... They went overkill with the past form fighting types
@@ianmann735 oh lol, my bad. I copied the list from a website and I guess I just missed that one.
Odd, I kept track of all the combos, and I have more unused combos that you don't have. Than again, I used the types of base forms only, not forms that are technically optional or temporary, so, Rotom forms did not make the list as that is cheating basically to fill out more type combos.

And for the designs themselves (I think I should talk a bit about them): Iron Scavenger is made to mine and find valuable ores with its item finder antennae and megadrill. I love Beedrill, but its stats SUCK. I wanted to make a competitively viable Beedrill, and so I did. :)
Ashen Spores is like a caveman-esc mushroom with spiked petals, fangs, and splotchy dots representing cavemen clothing. It also has Breloom’s feet to show how Breloom evolved over time from this primordial hunter. I read about a certain type of red, poisonous mushroom (hence the part poison type) growing in the past in Spain and Portugal. (Plus I just wanted to make a Paradox of my favorite mon, hehe.)
Shroomish and Breloom are some of my favorite pokemon too!

I'll be honest, every time John makes fun of Mikey because of Drowzee, I make jokes to myself about John's Genesect/Ditto situation from Pixelmon.
I feel like if they ever add Nemona into the anime she'll be the exact same. However there'll be a running gag where lets say Arven and Penny are holding her back because she sees something that she wants to battle.
"I'M GONNA BATTLE THAT (third legendary) LEMME GO AT 'EM!!!!!"
"NEMONA NO!!! CALM DOWN!! STOP!!"

People latch onto the Drowzie memes because Mikey's reactions are always so entertaining and over the top. He should harness his comical overreactions, pick a pokemon and act like, "Gee I sure hate Sudowoodo! Gaah! Arrg!" or something like that. Then John will make a clever remark and suddenly we'll be seeing Sudowoodo Memes everywhere. Hone your acting skills Mikey then you can control the narrative.

Hawlucha could be North Dakota because of the University of North Dakota’s mascot being the Fighting Hawks.
Sunflora is Kansas because Kansas is the Sunflower state.
Minnesota being Bidoof because of the U of M mascot being a gopher.
Michigan is one of the lake sprits because of how many of the Great Lakes it has (I’m guessing Mesprit over the others was a more esthetic reason or because Mesprit roams and Michigan is known for cars).

Gen 9 added a total of 4 types to that list, with Fighting receiving all 3 combinations it was missing at once.
As an Oregon native, I'm guessing Hisuian Typhlosion is a reference to the fact that at least half of the state is on fire at any given time. The ghost typing probably just references that a lot of things die due to the state being a literal fiery hellscape. I currently live in Kentucky (not really by choice), and I think Torchic is pretty self-explanatory here. It's a fire chicken. Kentucky Fried Chicken. Thunderus or Tornadus would also work here. I get tornado and thunderstorm emergency alerts literally every day.
Mt. Hood is a potentially active volcano and HI and WA had better Pokesentatives.
@@SanguineMalcontent still pretty sure it’s a reference to the constant wildfires. There are a lot of Pokemon that would represent a volcano far better than Hisuian Typhlosion. And there are active volcanoes all over the country. That’s not something Oregon is known for. It IS known for it’s constant wildfires.
Is Oregon know for people being high? That might be why

As someone from Ohio, I'm amused that we got Giratina of all things, though I think I can see the reasoning behind it. One, because *supposedly* Ohio has the most haunted houses of any state. And two.... because let's be honest, Ohio is probably some kind of distortion world on its own.

I've heard Ohio is just a rural bar fight of a state and I've come to ask if this is true.
When I saw the parodox Mikey I was thinking the exact same thing before I watched the video 😂
I know the reason for the Virginia one! Noivern is a big bat Pokémon with massive ears and echolocation abilities. Virginia is home to the aptly named “Virginia Big-Eared Bat”. They also live in Kentucky, North Carolina, and West Virginia, but since the name is literally “Virginia Big-Eared Bat”, Virginia gets Noivern.
To be fair, they were definitely trying to do only tree names for professors before gen 9
Spoilers for anybody that hasn't played Scarlet and Violet yet
The trees pattern being broken was an interesting decision, but I think it makes sense. The broken pattern for Sada and Turo fits with how they subverted your expectations and turned out to have questionable goals and be not so good parents. The other professors are meant to be warm mentor figures, while Sada and Turo were simply mad scientists bent on a crazy, destructive goal, the real professors being dead and their AI clones only interacting with you to tell you about Koraidon/Miraidon's status and eventually to tell you to come to them so they could defy the original professor's intentions. It's evident that Clavell is more like the traditional professor role, being the warm mentor figure the past professors have been, not to mention how you'll receive the "You hear the director's voice in your head" message when you try to do something at the wrong time, which is usually "You hear the professor's voice" in other games.
@@imarandomgamer2 Interesting, I never thought about that
I’m sad that we no longer have tree professors
@@yourfellowpancake6335 Yeah, though it might not be a permanent change. I've heard somewhere about Clavell also having connections with a tree as well (Clavellina I think?), my knowledge is not fully accurate on that one (one might say, 50% accurate), but it still points to Clavell being the true "professor" and future professors possibly returning to the pattern. We'll just have to see.
