Bought an On One Inbred frame and some remaining parts last year, third hand at least. Probably dating from 2003. Last owner took it on a trip from the North Cape to the south of Portugal with a trailer carrying a surfboard and the whole contraption weighed 85 kilograms. It was a bit warped but no problem. Buy a 10 mm metal threaded rod, insert in the back wheel with 4 nuts securing it to the dropouts on both sides, put the bottom bracket in a vice and bend it back. Take it slow and easy, use a string around the head tube through the dropouts to measure if you are straight again. Eyeball the derailleur hanger and straighten it and you are good to go. Rebuilt it with mostly used parts, had it powder coated racing green with two layers of clear coat and it’s as good as new. Or better painted anyway. Build was under 800 euros including a ridiculous expensive handlebar which is 20% of the cost. I just received your green ‘save old bikes’ sticker which really made it so much nicer in combination with the original head tube badge. Still available at Planet X. Then I saw this build tonight and if you can find an inbred, it’s a dream to ride. A rare find in the Netherlands so I guess I was lucky. Keep on saving those old bikes!
Love this ......ever since I was a kid id dreamed of a Lynksey 456 ti but could never afford one, now that I can there's very few left in circulation and the Van Nichols variants aren't even close
I did exactly the same with my dropper post lever. I hated the vertical movement with the angled metal guide tube. I bought the one that works horizontally, and I love it. Looks, ergonomics and function are all perfect. Nice build, keep them coming. Mark
I love these bikes. I had an inbreed for 5 years and everyday I regret selling it. Mine was a 26 with 1x9 drivetrain, crossmax slr and a PACE 100-120 carbon suspension fork. I loved to see This vídeo!
Bike looks sweet, and I love that you turned an apparent insult into sweet ass stickers 😆 brilliant 👍 can't wait to see your next build they are awesome.
I've always wanted a 456, too....this is a brilliant build. I'm so glad i found your channel; there's a lot of components available in the UK that we cannot get over here....finding a fork with a straight 1.125" steerer is almost impossible now, except for rim-brake only ones of the lowest quality. So, I wanna get an Air Bike fork, but is it just me or is the crown race seat kind of funny on those?
If you just need to chase the threads on the bottom bracket you can use an old square taper cup and cut a notch half way through and use it to clean them like you did with the derailleur hanger.
Saw a patch one time that said, 'TH-cam Certified Bike Mechanic'. Can't remember where but that pretty much sums up my skills. I watched a video once where they used a long socket to hammer the star nut into a steerer tube, might have been Spindat.
Watching this after seeing your year-end wrap up. Maybe you'd ride it more if you'd taken a marker to it or covered it in stickers! But seriously: it looks like a gorgeous bike, but if it doesn't suit you in the end, no need to beat yourself up about that.
I have the 27.5 wheel version of this frame and to route the dropper cable, I drilled a hole in the seattube. My learning from doing this: cromoly is a tough material!
I use a Phillips 1 screwdriver* to seat my star nuts, its much easier to get it straight and you don't hammer on the threads so you can't damage the star-not or bolt. * The shaft has to fit through the star-nut obvs and the end of the handle has to be narrow enough to fit inside the steerer and not load the wings of the star-nut, in my experience a PH1 is usually the best bet or a PH2 for BMX style hollow bolt star-nuts.
the stem you use to cut is the stem I want.. because I am gonna put the quill adaptor and run the front brake thru the 31.8 clamp section to the thing in the threaded stem for the cantilever STX brakes. 93 930 singletrack.. so the left lever in Canada
Whta a coicnidence! Just bought myself a 2012 Cotic BFe. I would say very similar to the On One 456 (steel tubing, 26", 170mm suspension). Loving it so far for trail riding. Enjoy yours 👌
always love the cool boutique parts you find for builds. Gonna get one of those medium headsets for my cannondale. Can I make a request for you to link to the small sellers you find these parts at in the description? Some of them can be somewhat difficult to find because of their name (Like Medium...)
At 9:22 it looks like the bb cup isn't parallel with the iscg tabs, i havent had an ISCG05 frame before, arent they supposed to be flat against the faced bb surface?
That's a proper way to build any bike ....not with these fancy over priced tools other channels use ....I have a very early on -one EBB ...the best bike I own ...disc brake ..pace carbon forks ...
Owned a few inbred frames over the years in 26 and 29 options and a couple of 456 too in the pre evo days. Loved my raw 456 with coil u-turn pikes - even took it to the alps one summer. 29er inbreds make good bikepacking/touring frames with rigid forks, but every one with sliding drop outs had issues in that the brake mounts were only about half of the length of the axle drop out and brakes needed washers to space caliper further out.
@@2NDLIFEBIKES basically cheap Chinese rubbish that either break at the steerer tube or separate from the lowers . All those brands are the same. Bolaney etc even the ones air bike sell complete rubbish.
Hi, new subscriber here. I managed to buy On one 456 Evo II Summer season frame (NOS) 1 year ago and it has been waiting for to be build ever since, mainly because of lack of suitable fork. After watching your video I came to conclusion that maybe Air Bike fork could be an option, at least price seems to be reasonable. Most likely you´ve been riding on this bike after the video, so any thoughts about quality of fork?
The air bike fork is fine and dose the job. But it’s nothing to write home about. The I’d say it’s a good between option to get the bike rolling and you could upgrade in the future but it’s not a replacement for a decent fork. A second option could be a suntour fork. They have some great mid range forks now. Seth did a video on them for Berm Peak. I’d check that out.
It’s nice and all but…. It’s no Handjob 😉😂 Wait is this comment going to get hidden and censored now? Who knows. Anyway. Yay for the modernised 26er hard tail! How come you didn’t use the 12 speed group?

Great bike build, it has turned out really well. Nothing wrong with being a backyard mechanic.
456 is 4” 5” and 6” travel forks 😉👍lovely build
Ha, came here for the same comment, so 100 to 150mm not 140 to 160. 👍
Got you!! Thanks guys. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet! 😂

love the build, would like to see the deraileur setup and the brake setup video. love the channel
love your videos, as a real beginner I'd love a 'idiots guide to cables/brake adjustment/gear adjustment' etc, look forward to the next vids
Turning the supposed insult into a sticker is just awesome! 👍
Love it. Prettiest bike you have built to date.
Wow, I love this build it's my type of bike. Might have to build something similar myself. Not built a bike since my teens many moons ago.
Guilty here as well of hammering star nuts. Also of using 2x4 boards on headsets.
yesss! backyard mechanics unite!
plzz do the hydro hose trimming vid!
also, i think that "dropper lever" is for a fork lockout??
👍 👍 Yes to hose trimming! 👍 👍 Nice vid
Yes, derailleur set up video pls.
All round more set-up of specific items on bikes.
I like your work. It was a particularly good one!
I've got a sick ass evo 456 and I love it! Frame up build also
Park tool makes a hammer for a reason beat parts into submission lol👌👌👌
Love your skills bro, you're almost as good as my blind wife doing her own oil change.

Such a nice build, love these On Ones.
Yes please for a video on the derailleur set up!
Yes please for both the hydraulic and derailleur set up vids! Would love to see those.

Keep doing what you do!
Been eagerly waiting on this one. New to the channel. Absolutely love your videos..
Keep up the good work dude
I'll be grabbing some stickers soon
On one are such a great brand. If that hanger mount goes again look into heli-coils

But seriously: it looks like a gorgeous bike, but if it doesn't suit you in the end, no need to beat yourself up about that.
I’ve got a 456 with 6” Marzocci forks, 200mm disks and 2x10 SRAM. It’ll go through anything, if you can hang on

Exactly the same here. Got a specific screwdriver that works really well for this.
Awesome build. Love it.
Whoa this build is so mean!!! Love the On One bikes, which I could find one in Canada

Right on!! 😂 maybe I’ll make a video on questionable bike mechanic techniques haha
sticker suggestion: It's a particularly good one
That moment you find out people watch until the end of your videos. 😢
oh glad I can still see 456 evo 2, but mine I made it to like a Commuter/Gravel bike 😅
Damn, I've had an inbred chilling waiting to be built up!
Clean build though!
Is that a 1 1/8" steerer tube on the forks? I have a couple of 'vintage' 'hardcore' hartails that might appreciate those forks.
Im a backyard mechanic too!
Awesome build, makes me want to find a 26” steel mtb frame
Go for it! Won’t be sorry!
70mm stem 👍
Yeah I was thinking somewhere between 50-70mm. why 70 out of interest?
I might have missed it. Want brand is the fork ?
hermosa esa biciiiiiiiiiiii
Is there another way to install a star nut?
Beautiful build! This bike flows!
Careful on those forks if you intend on off roading the bike , there death traps
Really? What have you heard??

@2NDLIFEBIKES what allen keys are they?
They are the Lifeline Pro Sliding T-Bar Hex. I absolutely love them!!

How about a parts list of this build
Everytime I put a star nut in I just hammer it, no need to buy a tool or make one. Just hammer it!!!
yes, yes and yes
Looks good but the forks ,really needs a pair of old rockshox
I’m actually considering a ridged on one fork. Haven’t decided yet though
@2NDLIFEBIKES it would look good a rigid pace done some really nice ones
@@2NDLIFEBIKES thinking about doing it on mine, what kinda forks where you looking at?
Don't ever give the hammer to people that have seen you hammering.
We are both back yard mechanics and he is a hater we have better bikes hahahaha love your videos brother
Retro?
