In case anyone is curious, the song was written during the last samurai rebellion & that is why the lyrics respect the enemy. They were fellow Japanese.

You just don't know. The Japanese Imperial Army was quite gentlemanly until they were cornered in World War II. There were even instances where survivors were raised for a day and night in the vicinity of sunken enemy ships and repatriated to the enemy country after assistance.
I did not know this but my grandfather when he passed left stuff for me when I turned 18 in that trunk was tons of things he took home from the war which one of them was a Japanese officers sword given to him with the letter saying “thank you for your mercy”. Vary cool ngl

It was a Militarized Dictatorship where the Imperial Japanese Army controlled everything. If someone needed convincing, they would make Hirohito make the order. You can’t blame Hirohito for everything if you haven’t done the research and you don’t know what actually happened. We actually are the ones that picked a fight with the Empire of Japan. We backed them into a corner and expected them to do something about it. When they did, we acted as the innocent but in reality we were the perpetrator. We ended up winning but it was one of the only wars where we picked a fight with someone and actually won it. Hirohito and the Imperial Japanese Navy didn’t accept the Imperial Japanese Army taking control but they had to because they forced Hirohito to make them the ruling party. The Imperial Japanese Army actually tried to prevent Hirohito from surrendering but they couldn’t, as he denied them any further attempts on preventing him from surrendering. Hirohito and Yamamoto hoped that they could end the Pacific Theatre in the early 1940’s if they at least achieved one victory in the Pacific. The army however, didn’t like the idea and they had to continue fighting regardless.

I had a(award winning)article published in the Ordnance society journal on the "suicide lunge anti tank mine" in it,after thorough research into the few surviving examples and going through allied ,especially american(who put out in 1944 a detailed bulletin on Japanese "tank hunters")documents and veterans accounts could not find a single example of a tank being taken out by lunge mine. Still,lovely figures on the wargaming table lol.
