Replaced in about six minutes! These videos save countless hours and money. Still can't believe a switch that's been used about ten times in seven years could go bad. But it did. Thanks much for showing this.
Thank you Jim!! Just ordered mine. I actually had my window replaced a few years ago because of the dreaded defrost not working and was thinking i needed to fork out $2k for another replacement just to get the slider working. A quick note - I made a video on an actuator replacement and I never understood negative reviews for someone taking their time to produce these self help videos - baffles me. Well done Jim.
Picked up the part from local Ford dealer for $44 as the repair needed to happen quickly. Simple repair, took about 15 minutes. Thanks for the clear, precise video, it was very helpful!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was all ready to replace the motor but saw this and decided to try it first. They had the part at my local dealership and I replaced it in the parking lot. It’s working just fine now after being broken for 2 years!
I truly appreciate you making this informative video. Saved me a lot money and aggravation. I brought my vehicle in for an 11AM appt to troubleshoot my 2011 F150 rear slider window. When I called @330 to check the status, it was not even looked at. At aprox 4PM I picked up my vehicle. As a novice, I was able to look up the failure on "You Tube", watched your video & ordered the exact replacement part as you mentioned. Part was delivered in 2 days and installed. Problem solved. This is a known Ford issue and would have been easily solved. However, I used up a day of vacation time with my vehicle in the shop. The service writer was great and he apologized for the dealership. Outside looking in, it seems that the call center has no idea of the workload at this respective location. Either need more techs, or a call center that knows the pulse of the service center. Disappointed with the dealership. Happy with your detailed explanation.
Thanks from Alberta, Canada, for the video - made the repair much easier. The clips were a little different and I had one more case to remove because I have a Ford 350 . The small screwdriver came in handy right from the start but thank you for taking the time to post this. Saved our family big bucks to repair ourselves. Looking at the number of views, I would say shame on Ford, they obviously have a problem with these switches that they are not acknowledging.
Thank you so much! I had expected to pay about $600 at the dealership. I ordered the switch and got it 2 days later. I had a window that would not close and was so frustrated. Your video saved me a lot of heart ache and a lot of money!!! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this! This mechanic was telling me it was a motor that needed to be replaced and when we went to auto zone it said it was over $700! He gave me another option. He told me he could just remove the back seats and take out the motor and close it manually but this meant we werent going to be able to open it again. Well, now all I have to do is clean all that mess I have back there from all the tape I put lol
Jim, I can't thank you enough for your help. I've questioned the switch for a while, but could not get a mechanic to concur. Your repair worked beautifully! Well done.
You are da man for posting this video!! 2nd F150 in a row I have had where this slider has failed. My local Ford dealer had no answer other than for me to bring it in and they would replace the motor or the entire window assembly!! What a croc and a ripoff! $32 vs. thousands!!
Great video! I did exactly what you said and got my window fixed. I took my truck to Ford and they said they can get to it in two weeks. I saved a bunch of money! I have a 2013 F150
Outstanding video! Thanks Jim Emmert! Replaced mine in less than 10 mins! Agree with Robert, seldom used mine...just stopped working. Thanks again Jim!
Fixed my Sliding Rear Window switch yesterday. I pulled the light/switch assembly from the sunglass storage compartment and then exchanged the switches. Thanks for the video!
Great video! This helped me out a lot. I was in a bind where my window was stuck open and I was waiting for the part to ship. I unplugged the switch, plugged it back in, and it closed part way. After a couple more attempts at the switch failed, I tapped the back of the switch with my box knife, and it closed completely. Now I can sleep soundly knowing that the window is not open while I wait for my new switch.
2011 F-150 Platinum, Rear slider would open but NOT close. Found this video , ordered part $40. Window works crisp and sweet. Thank you. that is all.😎👌
I found you can remove the bezel on the oem switch and snap it into the replacement to get the cleaner look it had originally. You can snap it on fully assembled.
Awesome..thank you so much..the dealer wanted $230 and I did it with a $37 part from AM-AUTOPARTS which is a genuine Ford part..took me 10 minutes thanks to your video
Yep...Dale's note below is right. I followed the directions explicitly and inadvertently threw away the trim assembly bracket. Didn't catch the mistake until a few days later. My "finished" job looks just like the result in the video, i.e., no trim.
Great video man! The fact that this vid has nearly 10k views just shows how many people are having this same problem. It's disgraceful how Ford continues to produce trucks with the same problems year after year.
Just replaced on my 2011 F150 Platinum I bought new in OCT 2011. Has 101000 miles. Switch hasn’t worked for probably 2 years so nice to have it working again! SW-6443-1X FoMoCo 9L3Z-15B691-DA
The circuitry on the window motor has the the relays reverse polarity. Positive on one wire and negative on the other causes the motor to run one direction and the relays reverse the polarity, causing the motor to run the opposite direction. The problem is the relay burning out so the whole problem could be fixed for a couple of bucks, if you can find a matching relay. Its just easier to replace the entire switch circuit board for under $35.
Jim, your video helped me repair my sliding window a couple of years ago. At the time, your video was the only one that I could find online with an alternative solution vs replacing the motor and unit. The other day, my sunroof just made the common F150 pop when closing and now is inoperable. I thought of you and your great solution for the back window. Have you had any experience fixing your sunroof with any alternative solutions other than dropping the whole liner, removing seats etc llike everyone recommends? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Again, I would check the switch relay before replacing the motor. From all the posts, it is obvious that switch relay is a common problem. When operating, release the switch as soon as the window is open or closed.
Thats the one I would like to see. I already had it replaced once on my 2013 under warranty. Today it stopped working. Supposedly this window has some kind of fix that would not have this happen again. Wouldn't be so bad but it also stops the side mirrors from getting heat.
Life saver!! Just ordered the part! Thanks so much! Now any chance you've had any issues with the backup camera or Bluetooth connect? Just out of curiosity. I took mine to the dealership and they said I would need to replace the whole thing, then again they said I needed a new motor for that back window as well. I appreciate the video either way, thanks again!
There is little doubt in my mind that the problem is caused by a relay that is not adequate for the job. When a motor is turned on and not moving, it draws more amperage in the circuit and then burns out the realy. I think you can avoid this problem by keeping an eye on the window and making sure that you release the switch as soon as the window is fully open or fully closed. Just a thought.
Anyone know which wires to jump to get it closed? I can get everything to work but the rear slide by jumping. If I can't jump it then this may not be my issue as that switch panel is not in the equation. It opens but does not typically close. Occasionally it will close but it's a gamble. Opened it by mistake and can't get get it closed.
There are two wires.....positive and negative going to the window motor. Positive to one side of the motor will operate the motor one direction. Reversing the wires will run the motor in the opposite direction. Relays on the switch circuit board will mechanically reverse these wires. If one side burns out, your window will only open or only close. I think that the problem is caused by keeping the switch depressed after the window is all the way open or all the way closed, which stops the motor and heats up the relay and burns out one side. I am just careful to release the switch as soon as the window is all the way open or closed. That's my thought.
This worked for me! Thanks! Very easy to do. Only issue now is the upper console did not clip up as far as before and rear most plastic lip is not touching the headliner. Anyone have any tips to fix that?
Hi Bryan, I tried to order new clips because i thought i must have bent/broke the two, but I just installed them and it did not work. I think the black plastic that the clips attach to must be the issue. It is really flexible up there. I helped the issue by putting some superglue between the black plastic and the roof (photos.app.goo.gl/O0ckL5sdbQcq8d7Y2) but that made the rear lip gap go from 1/4" to 1/8". Still no where near as tight as it was when I first took it off. Anyone have any other suggestions? Does that black plastic piece only attach with the two small screws in the front? Is there a rear attachment point I broke?
Hey Bryan, i found the fix. There are two clips that push up into the black plastic on the headliner. They have barb type clamps to grab the plastic extrusion piece on the console. I removeD those clips from the console, pushed them into the headliner, and then pushed the console up. This seemed to work well. Hope it helps!

What was the cause of the defrost not working? I’m having same issue.
Picked up the part from local Ford dealer for $44 as the repair needed to happen quickly. Simple repair, took about 15 minutes. Thanks for the clear, precise video, it was very helpful!
Robert Knight $85 in Canada.

I had the same problem with a 2013 f150 lariat, ordered the part and thanks to this video it took me only 5 minutes to fix.

You Rock Jim!! Just replaced mine on my 2014 F150 Limited. Dealership quoted me $360. Fixed it for $34!

Described my exact problem. You went by the numbers and it looks totally doable. Thanks for posting it man.
I am so glad you made this video, it saved me money and time by not going to the dealership. Thanks for making the video!
Your video was absolutely PERFECT! I replaced the part in less than 20 minutes start to finish. Thank you.

Yes he left off the gray bezel But I caught it and it helped me out thank you so much for the video.
Thanks for the detailed video!! Took me about 20 minutes since it was my first time installing this but all went very well!
easy peasy, would have liked to see what you were pushing on "on the back side" when you popped out the switches.
Yes! Worked like a charm on my 2011 Raptor! Thanks a ton man!!!
This video made it look simple. In reality, it was even MORE simple! ANYBODY can do this. Nice video, thanks!!!
Thank you for this video and the link for switch. It helped diagnosing the problem quick. 👍
Did you have any problems with your defrost not working while the sliding window was out?
thank you for this video. You walked me right through the issue. Again, THANK YOU for helping.
Great vid! I have the same problem! And also sunroof not open and close! How to know before purchase the switch? Thanks!

You are the man. Worked perfectly in my 2011 Raptor, thanks !!
I replaced the switch, It works great now. Thanks for the help. I just wonder how long this new switch will last?
Thanks, it worked great. It took me longer to watch your great video then it took to change the unit. lol

Any info on the 2012 F150 switch? I"m having trouble finding the assembly. It's just a single switch, rather than the 3 switch assembly in the 2011.
Awesome video, got me up and going in 5 minutes! Perfect fix
*mine just doesn’t close, it opens. and the other switches work??*
Did your truck also not have the defrost work in the rear?
Thats the one I would like to see. I already had it replaced once on my 2013 under warranty. Today it stopped working. Supposedly this window has some kind of fix that would not have this happen again. Wouldn't be so bad but it also stops the side mirrors from getting heat.
I have the same problem on my 2011. I'll try ordering the part too. Thanks.
Did no one realize you left off the gray plastic surround for the switch assembly when you snapped the switch back in?
i replaxed my switch but the moon roof abd rear window still isnt working at all any ideas could it be the big 30amp circuit breaker in fuse panel?
I would first check for a blown fuse.
Life saver!! Just ordered the part! Thanks so much! Now any chance you've had any issues with the backup camera or Bluetooth connect? Just out of curiosity. Thank so much i was going crazy trying to figure it out
Thank you for this video! Fixed my problem.
Thank you that help a great deal.
how do I find the relay on amazon or ebay? I have the same problem the relay is out?
Samuel Castellanos I used RockAuto a lot for parts... same price!
King this man
Anyone know which wires to jump to get it closed? I can get everything to work but the rear slide by jumping. If I can't jump it then this may not be my issue as that switch panel is not in the equation.

I have ordered that piece, I will let you know.
It worked!. Thanks very much!
This worked for me! Thanks! Very easy to do. Only issue now is the upper console did not clip up as far as before and rear most plastic lip is not touching the headliner. Anyone have any tips to fix that?
Did you ever get this fixed? I just replaced my switch 5 minutes ago. The window now works but the console does not clip up all the way now.
Hi Bryan, I tried to order new clips because i thought i must have bent/broke the two, but I just installed them and it did not work. See it, never mind.
