I saw a Showtime documentary called "Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood" recently and I purchase the book called "Full Service" which the Showtime piece was based. Scotty Bowers was the pimp to the stars and in his book, he said Rock was totally gay and that Phyllis was 100% lesbian. Also, Phyllis boss and Rock's agent, Henry Willson was also gay and he arranged for Phyllis and Rock's fake marriage. There are several chapters in the book outlining the steps the studio had taken to fool the public and what lengths everyone took to protect Rock's career. Somebody is lying and I think it is Phyllis because when the showtime piece and the book came out Scotty was put under the microscope. Fortunately for him, he had lots of proof as to the authenticity of his claims. Ask Phyllis if she ever re-married-the answer is NO. Not to another man anyway. Phyllis died in 2006 and I'm convinced she was 100% complicit in Rock's deception.
Rock married his agent's secretary, Michael Jackson married his plastic surgeon's secretary. Both stars were gay. Phyllis has in this interview a perpetually panic stricken look. There used to be a common phrase in circulation: "gay panic". Phyllis seems to embody that. I'm sure she and Rock were both homosexual.
I have another take on this. I think the reason why she wasn't able to get some of that Rock stash after their divorce was because their marriage was just an arrangement. She knew from the start that Rock was gay and till today she was trying to weave truth and lies together.
I think Larry wanted her to just make up a lot of fake news about him. So then that way it would juice up the interview. I believe she was like Elizabeth Taylor she wasn't going to let everything out.

I think Rock liked women probably only as friends and not as lovers. That means he was a man's man. He was a very nice actor and he brought pleasure to many cinema goers. Just unfortunate to be Gay at a time when Aids was death sentence. Being gay in the days before Aids was around was obviously safer. At least now the medicine keeps people alive for quite some time. The world lost so many beautiful and talented people who were not Gay. Aids can happen to anyone. Very sad.

Phyllis has passed away now but from what I can tell from this interview, was in major denial in a variety of different areas & chose to stay that way- I think a generational thing too. Always thought that the reason why Doris Day & Rock Hudson were such close friends was their affinity for denial- a similar psychology. Sadly, Phyllis was used badly by Rock & may have allowed herself to be....that she thought so little of herself to be left w/so little means after the divorce despite Rock being a very wealthy guy. She deserved better than that....shame on him.

She left him, he didn’t want a divorce. And she said she Intentionally took birth control as to not get pregnant by him. She could’ve had his kids and money. She’s a genuine person. People close to them, her best friend and rocks to said “it was not a sham marriage, That he loved her and catered to whatever she wanted” however she was unhappy”. Right before he died he said she 1 of 2 that he loved.

As a result of watching Rock HUDSON'S EX-WIFE PHYLLIS GATES - LARRY KING LIVE, 2003,I often wonder about those who defined Marc Christian as a gold digger, a liar, or (and) a blackmailer, how did they think about Rock Hudson's ex-wife Phyllis Gates, as this woman said she liked Marc Christian very much and she once blackmailed Rock Hudson as well. In my opinion those hatred to Marc Christian was unfair only because he won the lawsuit and got the money. I think it was Rock Hudson himself gave Marc Christian the chance to sue and to win.No one could be blamed in this case other than the disease.
I think both of the parasites living off the money Rock worked for are just as bad. But Marc used hysteria over AIDS to get more money and that is damaging to those really suffering from the disease. He never got it and what Hudson told him or didn't is something we don't know for sure. I find it hard to believe Marc's claims he had unprotected sex for years while Rock had it. i don't think he was mad she didn't lie, i think for an interviewer it's difficult to talk to people who give short simple answers. then it sounds like you are interrogating them. it's best to answer with a light little anecdote or short funny story, even if it could be answered with a yes or no. she should have been prepped to elaborate a bit more on her answers, no lies, just good memories.
she obviously didn't like Larry, plain and simple. The way he directed the questions as well of a dear friend and partner (whether settled agreement or not) shouldn't be made a mockery of. I wouldn't want to entertain him either!

Larry King got the timeline completely wrong - Hudson hadn't "just died of AIDS"; he died in 1985, the interview with Phyllis was in 2004. So of course she wasn't giving a "shocked" reaction that he seemed to be seeking. In fact, Phyllis makes for an interesting interview. His failure to get what he wanted may reflect more on his interviewing techniques and failure to follow-up on what Phyllis had to say.

For people who say Rock Hudson is bisexual because he "loved" women and had sex with them, you have to be reminded that the era Rock was in was 1950s when Rock was playing his role to be the"bachelor" and a ladies' man. Rock was gay but had to say the "right" things to discourage suspicions and do everything he could to fit his role. He flirted with women and appeared interested because that's what his macho image required of him. A lot of gay men (even nowadays) have had sex with women but that doesn't make them bisexual. For example, Elton John got engaged with a woman and married another, then later even came out as bisexual just to stem the rumors of him being gay. For Rock, he was always going to be with a man. If he was bisexual, then I'm sure he would be a lot happier and even start a family with women which wouldn't be difficult with his fame and good look. He couldn't, because he just couldn't be with a woman if he was allowed to choose.

Someone he continued a sexual relationship with until her death, was Marilyn maxwell. His house keeper and her publicist both said you could hear them. His best friend from the 1950s who is gay said, “I’m gay but rock was not”. These are people who knew him so who are we to discredit everyone? Also rock does have children. 1 he claimed, but never met and another that sued his estate. He dropped his date of at home and had sex with her mother. His best friend also backed this claim.
Up until his death he said, “I’ve only ever loved 2 people and Phyllis gates is 1 of them and I should’ve fought harder for my marriage and went back for MY SON”.

It was to be paid by the insurance company that turned down a nine hundred thousand dollar settlement. Most importantly it demonstrated that a person with whom you have a sexual encounter MUST disclose that they are HIV positive.

As I worked as an admin in boring-degenerate-Hollyweird for 5 years in my distant past, I can understand why Ms. Gates was so quick to marry for money as an escape route. Larry King did not realize that Rock Hudson/Roy refused to inform Phyllis about the many years of physical abuse that his mother and stepdad inflicted on him. That's why Phyllis seemed so clueless about her ex-husband's Arrested-Development issues. However, Phyllis said that she forced Roy to visit her therapist, and that mental health assessment was very cathartic, as it was the first time Roy could reflect on his pain in a safe environment. Years later, in the 1970's Anti-Hero-Era zeitgeist, Roy would not shut up about how disturbing his abusive parents were, publicly shaming his dead mother on the Dinah Shore Christmas TV Special (talk about Grinchtastic!). Roy's abuse complaint was radical back then. Conversely, Tony Perkins' mom sexually abused him for years but Tony always told the media how protective he was over her, and how much he longed for her private affection.
