1989 Interview With Rock Hudson's Ex-Lover Marc Christian

  • 2/27/1989. Following Hudson's death, Marc Christian, Hudson's former lover, sued his estate on grounds of "intentional infliction of emotional distress". Christian claimed Hudson continued having sex with him until February 1985, more than eight months after Hudson knew he had HIV. Although he repeatedly tested negative for HIV, Christian claimed that he suffered from "severe emotional distress" after learning from a newscast that Hudson had died of AIDS. Christian also sued Hudson's personal secretary, Mark Miller, for $10 million because Miller allegedly lied to him about Hudson's illness. In 1989, a jury awarded Christian $21.75 million in damages, later reduced to $5.5 million. Christian died of "pulmonary problems" caused by years of heavy smoking in June 2009.

When I was a boy, a man in our neighborhood died of AIDS, It's funny when you're 15, and this man was 25. He seemed so much older. I remember it like it was yesterday that no one in the neighborhood would go to this man's wake. My Mom was a powerful woman who said we were going, and that was the end of that; she didn't care what the neighbors said or did not say. When my son was born in 1983 at Stanford, he was a Premi. He was born with Craniosynostosis. He required surgery. After the surgery the doctors stated he needed a transfusion. At that time, you could NOT give your own blood unlike now. Stanford stated at that time they had been testing blood and he was likely not to get aids, but they wouldn't know for approximately ten years if not within a year or so. Every year I would take my baby back to Stanford for the test. His father left us and with no income I decided to move back with family. After the third test I decided NOT to test him and if he got it or not I would just have to deal with it when he did. I'm glad to say he was well until he turned sixteen and going through puberty. He started having seizures. They performed an MRI and discovered that he had a scar on his temporal lobe. When they performed the surgery on him at 16 months, they had scared it when they performed the surgery. He has epilepsy and has to take medications the rest of his life. Always something. I'm thankful he is still alive and thank God every day.

Take a look at gay personal ads where sometimes people say they have it. That is a fact and you can't do anything about it. I am not worried about getting it as I use protection. You have no right to tell ANYONE their sex lives are illegal with another consenting person. And I doubt prison would faze Rock Hudson who broke the law having gay sex period. BTW, Marc had already moved out of Rock's bedroom when he (Rock) first knew he was ill and was threatening to expose his homosexuality. Rock's former lover Tom, moved back in to care for him. Marc's care was only for money. As for you, stop trying to look ghetto and move out of the backwoods into the world. Dottiecurran During the early years of the HIV epidemic, a number of states implemented HIV-specific criminal exposure laws. These laws impose criminal penalties on people living with HIV who know their HIV status and who potentially expose others to HIV. In 1990, the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act, which provides states with funds for AIDS treatment and care, required every state to certify that its criminal laws were adequate to prosecute any HIV-infected individual who knowingly exposed another person to HIV.1
Picture of US CourtroomCriminalization of potential HIV exposure is largely a matter of state law, although some federal legislation addresses criminalization in discrete areas, such as blood donation. The National HIV/AIDS Strategy, released by the White House in July 2010, provides some guidance regarding the issue of criminalization, noting that in some instances, existing HIV exposure laws may need to be re-examined.2
An analysis by CDC and Department of Justice researchers found that, by 2011, a total of 67 laws explicitly focused on persons living with HIV had been enacted in 33 states.3 These laws vary as to what behaviors are criminalized or result in additional penalties. In 24 states, laws require persons who are aware that they have HIV to disclose their status to sexual partners and 14 states require disclosure to needle-sharing partners. Twenty-five states criminalize one or more behaviors that pose a low or negligible risk for HIV transmission.
The majority of laws identified for the analysis were passed before studies showed that antiretroviral therapy (ART) reduces HIV transmission risk and most do not account for HIV prevention measures that reduce transmission risk, such as condom use, ART, or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The analysis encouraged states with HIV-specific criminal laws to use its findings to re-examine state laws, assess the laws' alignment with current evidence regarding HIV transmission risk, and consider whether the laws are the best vehicle by which to achieve their intended purposes.
It should be noted that all states have general criminal laws-such as assault and battery, reckless endangerment, and attempted murder-that can and have been used to prosecute individuals for any of the above-mentioned behaviors.
See a map of states with HIV-related laws.
1 Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-381; 104 Stat. 576).
2 National HIV/AIDS Strategy See recommended action 3.3 - Promote public health approaches to HIV prevention and care: State legislatures should consider reviewing HIV-specific criminal statutes to ensure that they are consistent with current knowledge of HIV transmission and support public health approaches to preventing and treating HIV.

The good medicine WAS available for me ty 4 gods grace. My once partner had full blown aids and didn't feel the need to tell me. Not even when I asked him, a few times actually, and on different occasions. It's been more than 20 years now and I've had an undetectable viral load since a month after starting the medicine. The first line of drugs had terrible side effects that many ppl couldn't or wouldn't tolerate. I'm glad I took them anyways even on some of the days when being sick outta both ends simultaneously. I'm glad because I've kept it suppressed at less than 20/ml. but almost always they find 0 Zero hiv viron particles/ml. of blood. Bc of this my immune system wasn't damaged too much. I had the hiv for about 1.5 years before I started medication. My cd4 cells are usually around 1000 and that is excellent, stronger than many ppl, most ppl even, and those whom had never have had any sort of immune disease, difficiency, or hiv exposure at all. Just blessed to have proper treatment and my health. Praise God! TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!!!

I have dealt with attorneys for various problems as a teacher in Grand Rapids Public Schools in Grand Rapids Michigan. One particular instance was that someone I knew and encouraged to work in our school system, allegedly slept with the superintendent and his other male lover. Later the man, I helped get into school district was fired.
He attempted to Blackmail and extort money from the superintendent and the school district otherwise he's going to expose his secret. Even though I had a personal protection order against this person the police would not help me because of the situation of high-profile superintendent.
I was forced to sign a confidentiality agreement and tell everything I knew about the situation. I was the one that got in trouble. I was retaliated over and over again until I retired in 2017. I have had three different attorneys over the years. I got nothing. The other person was given hush money.
I was sexually assaulted by other employees and my name sullied because I helped a person get into the school system. I was being held responsible for another man with doing with his penis. Even this complicit School Board did not help me or follow the school policies.
In Grand Rapids Public Schools you can suck and f*ck your way to the top. There is a pervasive swinging culture within our school system . It's like an Open Secret. The people have sex with each other and protect each other it's like a big sex club.
The people that run our school system are complicit in this evil that was perpetuated against me and the children in my classroom. The female superintendent that followed Dr. Taylor was also incompetent.
She was an evil and vindictive woman exploited the children's education in my classroom by setting me up to fail over and over again. No one would help me not even my attorneys.
When I slipped and fell at work and injured my shoulder. I had multiple surgeries it took 3 years to get my settlement and I didn't even get half of what I deserve for the out-of-pocket costs.
I was a victim of being too nice and expecting these people to be kind to me after I told the truth about what I knew. I'm almost 60 years old now and I learned that Sex and Money Make the World Go Round And people lie and do anything to protect the reputation just like Rock Hudson did.

In 1989 there was not enough Scientific data to be certain of the incubation period in contracting HIV not AIDS. Christian may have been awarded an inflated amount of money but there was NOT a guarantee he was to see any of it. THATS what happened here. I applaud him for simply fighting to set some precedent where the severity of the irresponsibility was concerned.

Marc Christian seems very sincere, unlike the man he unfortunately teamed up with, Rock Hudson who was an absolute CAD and used him despicably. The fear and anguish Marc has been through is just unimaginable, and as for the swine Hudson not leaving him a cent even though he patently believed he had given Marc a death sentence, well, that says it all. Rock Hudson was nobody's hero, he was as morally low as it is possible to get without being underground.

The fact that the entire show it is referred to as AIDS, and not HIV, shows at what level the medical field knew of HIV and AIDS. Just 3 years later Magic Johnson would come forward and announce that he was HIV positive. That was big, big news at the time. HIV and AIDS are still very real. Marc had every right to sue, and if I was him I would have done exactly the same.
If Rock had AIDS but was unaware of it himself it would have been one thing, but to have it, KNOW you've got it and continue to conceal and outright lie about his condition, and put an innocent person at risk was incredibly selfish and borderline evil.
Just because you are going down doesnt mean you should bring the innocent down with you.

+Eccentricka1 innocent? eh? Instead of trashing a dead man who can not defend himself in favor of someone clearly out for money, you should look at yourself. When you call people with HIV guilty, don't wonder why they keep it a secret

Denise Coffin Trashing? Not once did I hear this guy make a disparaging or malicious comment about the deceased. He is simply upset about what COULD have happened...and I think he has a right to be because he DID respectfully ask Rock if he was carrying the disease while he was still alive, and he had every opportunity to be honest with Marc but Rock was the one who disrespected him by LYING to him! If you were sold a car and wasn't told that the particular make of car had a tendency to explode or for the brakes to fail despite enquiring, wouldn't you be angry about not being informed? ESPECIALLY if the dealer who sold it to you ALREADY knew this? I'm pretty sure most people would be, so it has nothing to do with disrespecting the dead.

Back in Rocks time they Hollyweird hid things like this. Nobody except maybe a select few ever knew Rock was gay or bisexual. He also liked females at one time and was even married to a female at one time. He had an image to protect in his mind and that was more important. It wasn't until after he died that he came out his death outed him. He put this mans life in danger and he had the right to sue the estate. By law now you have to tell if you have it back then you didn't. There is a movie you should see that tells how HIV and AIDS was found. Its very old don't know if you can even find it but you need to see And the Band played on. You have to understand it was like the dark ages of HIV and AIDS and so many people have died even from blood transfusions from tainted blood. The cocktails of medications we have now that prolong life didn't exist back then.
