  • I've been stuck in a creative rut for nearly a year. It's taken a while, but I've finally decided to let go of my perfectionism and start doing what I love again.

Thanks so much for this comment! I knew it, but for some reason it hit me harder now... And I'm going to use it for perfectionism and my inner pressure that I should think about others (not my passions only), "how to save the world"/people pleasing, instead of just focusing on what I want - but it's like with perfectionism, it will be never enough, if I do morel there will be always more... Because perfectionism and people pleasing is just in our heads, and if we listen to them, there will be always more to achieve or help... but if we listen to our hearts it will always be enough 🤗

I've been in the same situation... I love to produce music and to play piano but I've never published anything related to it. Every time I finished a song I would have noticed a small detail that stopped me from publishing it. I was also afraid of others judging me for what I was doing. Luckily for some reason, I actually managed to get out of this "mental block" and I'm starting a new project here on TH-cam. Guys if you feel like you have a cool hobby or passion, try to improve but within some limits otherwise, you will be stuck in this circle and it's very hard to get out of it. The quarantine helped me to think about all the stuff I could do while being at home and for some reason, my creativity increased like never before. Do them bro! Take the dive! I've also been procrastinating lots, I make music but have never actually released any, even tho I know that I'm just as good as the other mainstream artists out there! But life it to be explored, no point looking back at life when you're 70+ years old and regretting not doing that thing that you always wanted. Follow your passions, the rest will follow

    This hit deep for me.
For me, perfectionism is also an anchor. It has stopped projects that I wanted to do so many times throughout my life. I was afraid of making mistakes and failing. The fear is paralyzing as you say. I'm still trying to accept the inevitable flaw in my work. Trying to scrounge up the courage to put my work out there. Thank you for this video.

Ooh God, I can't thank TH-cam enough for recommending this. This is exactly what i have been going through for almost 2 years now. Been looking everywhere to get help, to get motivation, to kill my self judgement and I couldn't see any hope. I wish I could subscribe to your channel a million times, this video has given energy yet made me emotional at the same time. I felt like you were telling my own story. I should rise up the way you have decided to. Whatever we go through, there is always someone out there going through the same. Thank you Ryan Kao

Love this video so much. I’ve been chasing perfection for so long, and I really needed to hear this. I love how you say “if I know what I want to see and I thought if I couldn’t make that exact thing then there’s no point in trying”. I’ve been dealing with that exact then in my music. Finding that my ideas are perfect until I actually try to make them come to life where they can only disappoint me. Letting go of this perfectionism is such an important step in creating art.

Love this video man! I myself have been on a rut for a year and a half and stopped uploading because I kept telling myself I wasn't good enough or what I create will never be good enough and it got me really depressed. Lately, I have been doing better and I've forgiven myself and finally understood that it's okay to make mistakes and it's normal that we all have our own flaws. Gary Vaynerchuck's content helped me a LOT in the past months and I hope your video does the same to other fellow aspiring creators. Amazing talent, you're the best keep up the work :)
