    Man... 90s SEGA art is always top notch. From anything Phantasy Star to Panzer Dragoon to smaller games like this.

    Wow, I definitely did not expect such a low resolution system to capture someone's art style so vividly. Royal Stone looks like the definition of a hidden gem.

    I've always been thinking about snagging Crystal Warriors on 3DS eShop, and I now I definitely want to.
    As for Royal Stone... WOW it's hard to believe that's running on 8-bit hardware! It really does seem to be a must-play for the system

    • @oldmanwaugh
      @oldmanwaugh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you snag? I really think it's a simple but quite fun strategy game.

      @oldmanwaugh I did snag it, a few months before the 3DS eShop went down, in fact xD

    Awesome video, as usual! Would be cool to see some more GG fan translations. Looks like they've been springing up like crazy recently, even if there aren't that many big, text-heavy games for the system.

    Hey, a new video! It seems like Game Gear doesn't get much attention from classic gamers, so it's awesome that you're helping to shed some light on worthwhile titles for the system.

    Great video! I stumbled across Crystal Warriors a few years ago when i found a working game gear and I loved it despite it's many flaws. I've always wanted to try the sequel for awhile but now I know I must.

    @TenchiHawkwing 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yeah, it's true as you say that the graphics don't make the game but Royal Stone really does look great.
    I'd be lying if I said the graphics weren't a large reason why I do want to try it. It sounds like it's fun in many regards but it... it just looks like a lot of care went into this one!

  • @viewtifuljoe99

    Thanks for great review. Will try Royal Stone on PSP with emulator, which will be let's say similiar to playing on GG. Crystal Warriors looks less impresive but still bought it on 3DS and also will try it. I am sucker for obscure rpgs so keep em coming

  • @RPGswagman
    @RPGswagman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Royal stone is the only Game Gear game I own and I still haven't played it yet. As a diehard SRPG fan i should get around to it soon.
    On a side note have you played Mystaria Realms of Lore/Blazing Heroes/Riglord Saga? (I know 3 different names for one game is nuts). It's a great early made Sega Saturn SRPG. The visuals have not aged well but the story and gameplay stills holds up.
    As always execellent video!

    • @DariaPlaysRPGs
      @DariaPlaysRPGs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I own a Mystaria copy, figured if I was going to get it I'd rather have the first print. Haven't gotten around to playing it yet though.

    This looks too good for a game gear release. Graphics look fabulous and the gameplay looks like a lot of fun! Of course anything somewhat like Shining Force is an auto-must play for me. Love the video, Daria! These lesser known RPGs are great to learn about.

    There is something about this game that has always reminded me of Dark Wizard on Sega CD. I can't find any connection between the two, so probalby nothing there, but curious what you think about that.

  • @shaggymcdaniel3216

    Is this game dual language compatible with the western Game Gear models? I know some games are translated from Japanese to English, such as GG Aleste 2, where even the title is changed to Power-Strike 2 if put into a western model.

    It's too bad Sega never made a peripheral like the Super Boy that let you play Game Gear games on your Genesis/Mega Drive. The Game Gear had a lot going for it--I see it as a sort of extension of the Sega Master System's lifespan (identical hardware inside).

  • @TheLastLineLive

    except for the graphics (where Royal Stone wipes the floor with Crystal Warriors), I actually enjoyed CW more than RS. I preferred how direct and easy to play CW was as opposed to the inifinte storyline depicted in RS.

    • @DariaPlaysRPGs
      @DariaPlaysRPGs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Somehow the audio level on the second half of the video didn't match the first half. Not sure how that happened. But unfortunately once its uploaded there's nothing I can do about it. If you ever have trouble hearing me though, I do upload captions to all my videos.

    This sounds fun but not as fun as it could have been. I hate permadeath in SRPGs and IMO its something the subgenre should have banished from its realm long before this game out. Crystal Warriors is large part of the reason why I hate the concept so much. I remember playing it during drives with a childhood friend who owned a Game Gear (Our families often drove to the nearest mall, over an hour from our homes, together and the kids rode in the same car giving me a chance to play his Game Gear or his Lynx) Eventually after multiple trips of playing Crystal Warriors I had to restart because I didn't realize defeated allied units were gone for good until it was far too late to recover.
