I try to recapture an era with authentic photo's and classic music. This is a Slideshow about the 70s to the early 90s of Astoria New York or Any town USA. It is what I would say the last days of the real NYC or USA.. These are the people I grew up with in Astoria Queens. There were so many more who's pictures I couldn't get a hold of. I feel very lucky to grow up with the people of Astoria as most of NYC felt about their own neighborhood. When speaking to a good friend of mine Johnny Walker about the past, he said "Same time same place same people"
I have decided to change the title of this video for a few reasons. I found out that many people from different parts of the country can relate to this video. It was the last of the outdoor generation. The hanging out on the corner generation. Driving on the strip generation. The street games generation. The drinking from the hose generation. The generation of having the same neighbors. The pre 911, computer generation. So instead of Astoria! When NY Was NY It will now be America's Last Generation | Astoria Style. #slideshow #astoriaqueens1980s #nostalgic #nostalgia #music #slideshowwithmusic #musicvideo #generationx #genx #musicslideshowwithpictures #musicmontage #newyorkcity #astoriablvd #1980s #1970s #80s #70s #1990s #90s #astoria #photo #photomontage #photography #queensnyc #queens #musicvideo #pictures #nyc #newyork #nyc #musicvideo #pictures #marcwillis #19something #thegogos #joanjett #badreputation #westsidestory #eastsidekids #boweryboys #littlerascals #thelittlerascals #ourgang #gatheringcrowds #thetimesofyoulife #neilsedaka

Enjoyed it. I was a 44th street member myself, a few years before you.
The deli, the alleyway,,even the "tunnels" in your courtyard of your old apt building were great for hide and seek and tag. Knew the people in almost every house from 30th ave to 28th. I knew all of the Delorenzo kids..Charlie, Dorothy, Kathy, Chris and Jennifer, Pat, Charlie Sr. and even their grandmother.. This brought back a lot of good memories for me. Thanks!

Was born in Astoria General Hospital (now Mt. Sinai) in 1952 and we moved to Suffolk County in 1963. Soooo much has changed in the old neighborhood!! 32-26 41st Street is where I lived and my dad's parents lived in the next bldg., 32-30. So many great memories even though I only lived there for such a small portion of my life. My dad lived at 32-30 till he came back from WWII and till he married my mom. Then he moved into the next building.

My family has been in Astoria since the 60's. I moved here with my mom in 1997 when I was nine. Went to PS. 122 (learned to speak English there). I love Astoria so much, even though these photos are from the 70's and 80s, I feel a connection to the people in the photos. It is really sad to see the authenticity of Astoria be stripped away, beautiful homes torn down to make room for glass condos. I am 30 years old and am in favor of change and growth, but the rate in which this is happening is insanely fast. Thank you for this beautiful video!

Nice job... I grew up in the same neighborhood, it was in Corona. I really miss those days of just hanging out and going for a lemon ice. Then there was that same question over and over "what do you want to do tonight"? Jimmy drives by with his Chevy Impala... 8 guys jump in... Jim does a neutral drop. Walking in the at midnight during school my father is pissed... yes i miss those days.

My old neighborhood of Astoria, Queens. I missed it a lot! Used to live on Cresent Street across the street from the old Catholic High School in the 1970s and go to Immaculate Conception Catholic church on Sundays and later with my family go to McDonalds on 31 Street next to the Astoria/Ditmars boulevard station for lunch. Then go to Astoria park in the afternoon.

My mom's family lived on 9th Street. Her uncle had a restaurant in the 1940's right on Vernon Boulevard. 35-50 9th Street. The Rabati's had a store there. It was really an old fashioned neighborhood. They spent lot of time at the Astoria Pool. They would feed the whole band when the Italian Feast was held in June. They had grape arbors and a garden. Great memories. Then things changed and they moved out to Long Island. I remember lots of shops on Steinwa Street. Movie theatre, bakeries, dress shops everything you could find in the days before Malls.

Does anyone have picture of crystal gardens? It was on 24th ave from 27th st through 29th street. I have yet to see an image of it. I’ve heard about it my entire life (46 years) of how beautiful it was. If anyone has an image, please contact me.

I'm not sure where it was in the video but the place where I saw it most was entering the BQE on 65th place and Queens Blvd.

I thought I deleted comments but they are still there. I hope this clears the air. I Used to live by ConEdison plant and 21St
