Stone Cold is the absolute zenith of 90s action flicks. It's too bad Boz didn't get more opportunities from the film, but at least his first outing was alongside two of the best actors working during my lifetime. Lance and William elevate everything they're in, beyond a doubt. They both should have won an Emmy or an Oscar by now.

I love this movie, one of my all time favorites as well. I just watched it a few weeks ago when I found it on my movie app. I agree that Henrickson and Forsythe, added to the legitimate awesomeness to this movie and I’ll never forget it!
My best friend and I were just kids when my older brother rented this for us. We thought The Boz was the coolest guy ever! You got me covered! More of these PLEASE!
These are fun to do but a lot of work (they weren't supposed to be, but I always make shit more work than it needs to be... :p) but there are more on the way. Highlander next week.
This movie was 110% a "Cinemax Friday Premiere" (you know, the movie that started 3 hours before you turned on Cinemax) in 1992. "The Boz" is a pretty good sports (auto)biography. Man lived his character. Feels like you need the clip of him getting smurfed by Bo, though. Also, he was a first round pick in the supplemental draft- a draft specifically for guys who had any number of issues between the regular draft and end of school year, of which yes, Bosworth. Lance and Billy don't have to carry any movie that has a beefhouse like Sam McMurray to do the heavy lifting. This was right at the launch of the NC-17 rating, so I'm excited to see how similar to "The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and Her Lover" this is. I always thought there should be a strip club called "Wild Cherries", I continue waiting. Is that the Tom McGee from the Bret Hart "best match no one ever saw"?
Incredible Action movie. I saw it in 1992 when i was 12 and was blown away. Since then i watched it about 30 Times maybe more and it still rocks. Brian Bosworth was my hero in my childhood. Thank you for this. Greetings from Germany 👍🏻
My grandpa was a night owl after retirement and I watched many a crappy B-action movie on the typical outstanding late-night cable/Showtime weekend lineups with him. I distinctly remember this one in particular!
I remember seeing William Forsyth in this movie and being blown away by that dude. Then I later found out that he was in Cloak and Dagger playing the computer geek and It about blew my mind. That dude has so much range and ability it is not funny. Thanks for your time and effort on this. I loved this movie back in the day and am happy you covered it. Excellent work as always Buddy.
Dude, the Superbowl Shuffle made me a Bears fan for years! The Boz was definitely overshadowed by Bo Knows in my world, which makes me wonder if there were any projects that started with Bo Jackson in mind.
Saw this in a packed indie theater a couple months ago. Mostly a younger crowd, and they were blown away by the pacing and general Stone Coldness. We'd seen I Come In Peace at the same place a couple weeks before--definitely a good pairing. Thanks for giving this one the deep dive!
The German movie poster does state: Michael Douglas präsentiert (which obviously translates to Michael Douglas presents). Despite it's not very promising performance during it's theatrical run in the US, the distributor over here seemingly had high hopes as they even commissioned a novelization. In 1997 Bosworth played a (kind of) similar character in the tv movie Back In Business, directed by Philippe Mora (The Howling II & III). It was released theatrically here in Germany as Heart of Stone (actual title, not translated from German) but for the video release (and subsequently DVD) it was titled Stone Cold II - Heart of Stone. And I think in Italy it was marketed as a sequel to Stone Cold too.
They should've gone all Lethal Weapon and had BOTH agents shoot the bad guy...Lance Henrikson was in Pumpkinhead!! Love Pumpkinhead... The things we love were once replacements of the things our parents loved...
As a fellow Tampa area denizen, I loved the talk about the local landmarks. I adore this series and there’s something to pique my interest in every one you do! Thanks Mike!
Glad to hear it! Someday I'll get to something that lets me talk about hanging out at WMNF with Digital Underground crew before they got famous, shopping at University Square Mall and Tampa Bay Center, and so on. :p
Oh man, I LOVE Stone Cold. Thankfully it made it to cinemas here in the UK in the early 90's and it immediately became a firm fave for all the reasons you give. Great supporting cast and Baxley doing top notch work with the stunts and action. Agreed that it's a damn shame they don't make movies like this any more. And yes, Dark Angel is also fab. Gotta love The Bax! 😁
I'd pay you to do it!! But i"m on disability at the moment due to a stroke. I'm on your patreon as MICHAEL MYERS I think. It's been a tough year... @@TheHorrorGeek
Oh I remember "Movies for Guys who like Movies." Good times! I remember this used to be shown on TBS and TNT a lot in the 1990s and early 2000s, but I never watched it. Thank you for reviewing this one. I was curious as to who "The Boz" was and why was seemingly his only movie.
the squibs in this film are some of the best I've ever seen in a film. i saw this opening night at the theater. it surprises me how many b movies I've seen in the theatre.
Love what you say about traveling back in time when you press play. These movies and period were great and it even makes my kids envious that I was around then. Memories and nostalgia are precious and when it comes to movies relatively accessible to relive. Thanks for yet another great show.
Another great B movie Babylon Mike, you've really found your calling with these. What can I say, I watched Stone Cold last night for the 1st time in 20+ years, I used to really like it but went into it with low expectations and was absolutely blown away it just doesn't let up , it is mmmmmm , mullets, monitor lizards, motorbikes, mayhem, mirth and mammaries. What more could you ask for? Henrickson and Forsyth are brutal and acting their chops off in this, Bosworth is surprisingly good now I know he was a NFL player (we don't know things like that in the UK) I would have liked to have seen more action films with him. I had no idea this was done by the guy who did Dark Angel (I come in Peace) another 90s favourite of mine , but now I know I can see it, definitely has the same style in storytelling and action sequences, I didn't know he also did Storm of the Century and Rose Red , both of which I consider to be The best of the Stephen King mini series and not forgetting Action Jackson , that's a good run of low budget classics. What was the budget on Stone Cold? It feels quite high budget especially the final act it's absolute Carnage. I highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to go watch it now it is up there with the best action films.
I forgot to add, I didn't expect to see Henrickson in such good shape , he was surprisingly built in this , fair play to him. I also had to laugh at the end tho ,Joe would've certainly lost his job and got sent down as the whole bust went to shit and nearly everyone died in the courthouse 🤷 yeah they got the gang but the gang still managed to pull off D day .
Yeah, this one had a fairly decent budget...like 15-25 mil depending on the source. It's a real shame it didn't earn out...but I kinda knew that was gonna happen when I saw it twice in virtually empty theaters. :p We don't talk about Baxley's work enough...dude made great movies.
I've always had a soft spot for Stone Cold. I have friends who to this day still talk about it and how sinister Lance Henriksen's scene editing the video of the Whip just repeating "death death death death death death" and Henriksen laughing...that was stone cold of Chains. I met William Forsythe at the now defunct Rock and Shock convention years ago. What a great guy. Many people I know always get excited when they see him onscreen. A guy who used to tattoo me brought it when he saw him show up in The Devils Rejects. I thought it was best I tell Mr. Forsythe how much love when he's in movies and what a great actor he is. He was pretty moved. Great episode! 🤘
Lance Hendrickson has one of the best whacko of the week in Hannibal. Bosworth has a fantastic appearance in other b action films Substitute and Extreme Prejudice a underrated gem with Nick Nolte, Michael Ironside, and Powers Boothe. Bosworth has a scene that will have you laughing under your breath as he and his mercenary partner create a distraction in the unemployment office.
Organized crime was an issue in Mississippi in the 80’s. I remember a story about a prominent woman in Biloxi who was dead set against allowing casinos in the state who was murdered by members of an organized crime group trying to get the casino bill pushed through. It was a whole thing, believe it or not.
Yeah, I figured there was some, but had no idea that the gambling brought in so much of that sort of thing...which was just me not thinking. Happens a lot. :p
There are too many great Henrikson roles to pick a fave, but his turn in Near Dark has supplied me with quotes for years. The man is a National Treasure. (and he should be in a National Treasure movie)
Thanks for covering this movie because I was trying to find the name of the movie for ages so I can add to my video library, definitely one of those movies where you spend the weekend and just turn off everything and watch some B-movie awesomeness
The opening montage is just incredible. And they don't really ruin the action by worrying about explaining too much, like why the biker shows up at the christening to blast a priest through a window. The revenge plot for the DA is insane, too. Even if they completed it according to plan, how are you gonna get away with it? It also turns action hero tropes on it's head. Stone doesnt save the girl or prevent the massacre, or even prevent any murders or explosions, and he doesn't kill the bad guy. He literally fails at everything except being a badass.
Nice level up with your new set Mike. Your right about Bosworths mullet. Even Gods mullet isn't that legendary. I've always wondered why he didn't transition over to pro wrestling after Quincy finished the autopsy on his movie career. B squared had what counted in the squared circle at that point & time. Sweet mullet, basic acting skills, muscles and familiarity with steroids... It may be that he did give it a shot and it didn't pan out, but if not,too bad. It's interesting that you mentioned I Come in Peace, I'd be curious to know if you plan on covering it for the show? Anyway, nice pick for this week. Stay sick Mike! Listen to S.O.D.!!!
My dad got me into biker movies Psychomania, I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle, Undertaker and His Pals, Born Losers, The Wild One, Above The Law, Last Rider, On Any Sunday documentary series, an hour and 30 minutes later I finally get to Easy Rider and Great Escape just me listening random movies he got me into
Mike, you're a good man. I'm right there with ya, growing up in the same time as you. Many of these 80's movies have become cult gems. It's great to enjoy your commentary throughout. Rock on-.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip Mike. This one is definitely a classic. Hard Target and Dark Angel are also great fun. I hope you'll cover, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man at some stage 😁
I never really knew about Lance until I saw the bulletproof vest scene on Siskel & Ebert. I thought he was terrifying. Then I saw him on Letterman promoting Millennium, and he was the most normal guy in the world (except for the voice).
The best story about Lance that hardly anyone seems to know is that he was illiterate until he was like 30 or something. Imagine having to not only learn to read as an adult, but then getting good enough at it to be an actor...
Well now have to check this one out again to see Henrikson and Forsythe in their prime. Ahh cable, the great wonderful graveyard of failed box office films that were totally worth watching.
As someone who grew up in a 1% household, this was a frequent go-to comedy classic. It's too bad the governing body couldn't be suede, it was cool back then.
@@dougrussell1926 I think it is on TH-cam, ran two seasons. Based on the supposedly true story of a guy that infiltrated three separate motorcycle clubs. Let's just say season one had a prospective member be given his full patch and a motorcycle because he didn't own a motorcycle
Hi Mike. Everything you said about the lapsing of time and things not being the same really resonates with me. It's nice to be alive and appreciate what you have around you, but when those things don't stir you as things used to, it does invoke melancholy.
Agreed. I'm at an age where I've started losing people I loved and I know that it is just going to happen more and more. At the same time I still feel like I am in my early 20s a lot of the time and reconciling those things is hard! As flawed as this world can be there's still inspiration to be found in its beauty in the creativity of its inhabitants. I'm going to stick around and take in joy when it comes along and do my best to support those who are still with us as they find theirs.
This preacher I listen to Mike recently said that for the past year, he has asked his audience at the beginning of every night, "Who is as happy now as they were 20 years ago?". He says that not one person has ever put up their hand. So it's not just longing for our youth like generations before us, but maybe the world really is changing in some way?
Yeah, I think it's always normal to be nostalgic for your youth, but I also think the past 8-10 years have seen such weird changes in the world that many of us just would really love to go back to the 80s and 90s when it feels like everything was simpler, people were nicer, and there was just more hope for lack of a better term.
This reminds me of Fixing The Shadow (1993) with Charlie Sheen and Michael Madsen. I also remember Lance Henriksen as Dr. Jarret in the sci-fi horror movie Man's Best Friend (1993).
I'm in the same boat... saw this in hs and later looking back, it seemed to be the end of an era for these movies. Boz got short changed - I think if he'd been at the beginning of that era instead of the end, we'd be talking about him with Arnold, Sly, and Bruce. Kinda wish Tarantino would have picked him up for a role, but Boz didn't seem to fall into the right era for that, like Travolta did. Ah, what could have been. But, we'll always have Stone Cold. Thanks for covering this gem, Mike. As always, we appreciate ya!
Not only does Bos look like Randy Orton with a mullet, but the guy at 15:52 looks like a buff version of Kenny Omega! And seeing Lance Henriksen in the priest outfit makes me think of his role as an actual priest in the forgotten horror anthology movie Nightmares.
Great episode! This movie reminds me of my dad who passed about 12 years ago. He loved this movie. Oh and fun fact, I named my son Bishop (mostly) after Lances character in Aliens.
If it’s cool I might actually hit you up on ig,, I’ve never worked in a theater or known anyone that has and I just been wondering about how some of it works
Nice shoutout to Brimstone, such a fun series. While not a big fan of The Boz, i did like Stone Cold. I grew up with those kinda action flicks. Nice to see the 'alien' gun from I Come In Peace make an appearance, Ice must of had it set to low, as the biker and everything else didn't explode heh.
"One day you're a kid....the next thing you know you're mailing your poop in box to a lab to make sure you don't have colon cancer!" You are a poet, man!
Second Tom Magee sighting in a review in a week.😂 Another channel covered Dragonfight. I agree 100% about Lance he elevates every crap movie he does for a paycheck just a little. Cough* Hell World.
(To the tune of “Roll with it” by Steve Winwood) 🎵 When good actors cost too much Go Stone Cold with it, Baby When you have no acting chops you can’t lose your touch, Oh, No, Baby It’s much easier than playin in the NFL, Which no doubt hurts like friggin hell, It’s friggin luck that you even got to play So make the most of it before your luck blows the F*** away You got a role in it , Bosworth, Yeah, You can be Stone Cold in it, Bosworth You get paid enough dough to roll in it, Buddy So just go Stone Cold for it, Dummy 🎵
That was one of my favorite action films from the 90's I can't believe Bosworth was one and done after this film. Pretty much all his other movies went straight to home video and he also had one failed TV show. I remember that same year, The Perfect Weapon also came out. Jeff Speakman's and Bosworth's careers both fizzled out after their first films.
Both their first films were awesome debuts. I thought they were both going to be the next two big action stars. If Speakman were in his prime today, he'd be the perfect Batman. He'd wouldn't need any stunt double for his fight scenes. Tom Magee also got to fight Jeff Speakman in his second film. @@TheHorrorGeek
Hello mike! Big Fan from austria here, love your channel, it helped me thru the pandemic! This movie was one of my favorites, i was 16 when it came out in cinemas. This movie and harley davidson and the marlboro man where my favorite biker movies in the 90s. Also made of steel with charlie sheen. Thank you for the review and keep those great videos coming! Lets get to the gore and find out! Greetings from austria to you sir!
I remember seeing this on VHS because I didn't see it until later in the 90s because when it came out I was in Germany serving in the United States army. Was a good movie for its time. I do remember him in a movie called Hudson hawk where he tries to do comedy. I'd have to say he was better in this movie. But then again when you got two of the great heavies from the '80s and '90s you can't go wrong.
I watched this a long time ago. I forgot about it but watching this immediately jolted my memory. I was still living in Aruba back than and was still a teenager. I watched it on venevision with was a tv channel from Venezuela. Granted to say it was dubbed in Spanish. I don't even remember what it was called in Spanish 😂 I should look it up. American movies rarely have a title which is a direct translation in Spanish. They always come up wiyh creative names for them 😂 I should also rewatch it now but in English but been living in the Netherlands for like almost half my live now. Need to see where I can find it here. I remember liking the movie when I saw it.
I do love this movie. Its in my Lance Hendrickson trifecta (with Near Dark and Pumpkinhead). But for best biker movie of the 90's, my vote has to be for Beyond the Law. Michael Madsen is the perfect club president, it's allegedly based on a true story, and Charlie Sheen does a fantastic job of demonstrating the mental and moral conflict of when the undercover persona starts to become more real than his cop life. And with a supporting cast containing Linda Florentino, Dennis Burkley, and Rip Torn, it just can't be beat.
I'm glad some of you like that one...but for my money Stone Cold is about a billion times better. Sheen is no replacement for Henriksen and Forsythe. :p
@@TheHorrorGeek agreed. Sheen definitely isn't. But Madsen I would argue goes pound for pound lol. Don't get me wrong, I do feel Stone Cold is the much better Action movie by far, and even the better overall viewing experience, hands down. But on just the premise of 'which is the better Biker movie', I think the realism of Beyond makes it the better Biker movie.
I remember going to see this at either the Crossroads the Tyrone square 6 at Tyrone Mall in St Pete! I love this film as much as I loved Hard Target!! Two films starring a crazed amazing Lance Hendrickson!!! And William Forsythe in this film as well as Out for Justice!! It was madness!!
@@TheHorrorGeek yeah I meant to say the crossroads 8! But you know what I'm talking about 😉 we saw the last boy scout and even Hudson hawk back in the day at those places! Lethal weapon 2 at Tyrone for sure! You've got a couple years on me but I'm sure we passed each other! I'm 49. You might have a year or two on me

Yes it’s that Tom McGee
Brian Bosworth plays the sheriff on the Dr. Pepper Fanville commercials. Christ, he's old!
Incredible Action movie. I saw it in 1992 when i was 12 and was blown away.
Since then i watched it about 30 Times maybe more and it still rocks.
Brian Bosworth was my hero in my childhood.
Thank you for this.
Greetings from Germany 👍🏻
Thank you! Greetings from Florida!
My grandpa was a night owl after retirement and I watched many a crappy B-action movie on the typical outstanding late-night cable/Showtime weekend lineups with him. I distinctly remember this one in particular!
That’s a great memory. For me it was my grandmother.
Seen this on HBO back in 1993 and watched it over and over. Great film
I was 11 when this movie came out. I loved it then, and it still holds up today.
When you said Aikido "Master"...I fell out of my chair. Boz would wipe the floor with Segal's head.
Haha! Yeah...I think Seagal is struggling in this segment so far.
Glad you liked it!
Stone Cold was one of gems you either loved or hated
Stone Cold truly was B-movie GOLD...
@@TheHorrorGeek awwwwww yeahhhhhh! Nice
I'm from the UK, and I remember the trailer for this being on pretty much every single video I rented around that time
Excited for a potential "I Come in Peace" review.
Dolph rules.
This was one of my fave on showtime at late night. Underrated for sure.
omg!! you are knocking them OUT OF THE PARK!!! i graduated in 91 also and LOVED this movie!!! You need to do REAL MEN with John Ritter!!
Been awhile since I've seen that one!
I'd pay you to do it!! But i"m on disability at the moment due to a stroke. I'm on your patreon as MICHAEL MYERS I think. It's been a tough year...

Glad you liked it!
We don't talk about Baxley's work enough...dude made great movies.
Yeah, this flick was a blast! And I too have mailed poop to a lab, my friend. Time has no mercy...thanks for an always enjoyable time.
Haha! I had that fun earlier this year...what a time to be alive. :p
Thanks! I have loved William Forsythe since I was a kid...him and Lance...they just don't make actors like that anymore.
@@TheHorrorGeek yeah they're are absolutely brilliant together
I saw this at the same age. I live how insane this film is
Thanks for covering this movie because I was trying to find the name of the movie for ages so I can add to my video library, definitely one of those movies where you spend the weekend and just turn off everything and watch some B-movie awesomeness
It’s free here on TH-cam.
I also love Henriksen as Jesse Hooker in Near Dark!
Yes! My buddies and I at Ohio State went to see this at a dodgy theater. This is a B-movie classic!
Please Mike! Ginty in Exterminator. Wahl in the Soldier. Chan in the Protector. A Glickenhous wet dream .
Will definitely be talking about I Come in Peace at some point.
Rock on-.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the nostalgia trip Mike.
This one is definitely a classic. Hard Target and Dark Angel are also great fun.
I hope you'll cover, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man at some stage 😁
Definitely on the list for a potential episode!
19:53 -- On a scale of 1 to "Cool as Ice," where does this thoughtful bike-riding montage sit? 😁
Haha! pretty high up there.
Dang what a blast from the past! I remember seeing this movie a few times on video, I don't even know why. Lance Henriksen was super cool!
Have you watched Gangland: Undercover?
@@tonytoes0 No is that a TV show?
@@dougrussell1926 I think it is on TH-cam, ran two seasons. Based on the supposedly true story of a guy that infiltrated three separate motorcycle clubs. Let's just say season one had a prospective member be given his full patch and a motorcycle because he didn't own a motorcycle
Yes. Yes it is. And I love Hendrickson and Forsyth ad libbed most of their lines.
Forsythe and Henriksen make me wish for a movie with "oops all villains"
Hadn’t thought about the Boz in decades. Christ I’m old.
Thank you for watching! Boz definitely should have had a bigger career.
Nice job on the name!
You know, it's in moments like this that I think of my father's last words. Which were: "Don't son, that gun is loaded!"
Words to live by...wait. :p
Stone Cold was a fun and entertaining movie!
Frank Black is one of my fav TV characters of all time, Henrikson is so awesome.
I love this movie. This is awesome
I like the fun little trip down movie theater memory lane 👍🏼 I’ve actually been thinking about that quite often lately.
100% with you on this movie! Loved it and watched it many times. Thanks for covering it!
Haven't heard of this before.Have to check it out 🙂🙂
Hope you dig it!

Hahaha! I try.
As long as you aren’t asking him to catch anyone running towards him, Boz is your man.
Hahaha! Harsh. Hahaha!
Second Tom Magee sighting in a review in a week.😂 Another channel covered Dragonfight. I agree 100% about Lance he elevates every crap movie he does for a paycheck just a little. Cough* Hell World.
Haha! About time we got some Tom Magee appreciation on this site. :p
I too would really like have seen what the NC-17 cut would have been.
I LOVED the Boz when i was a kid, and in turn loved this movie. Go Hawks
(To the tune of “Roll with it” by Steve Winwood)

When good actors cost too much
Go Stone Cold with it, Baby
When you have no acting chops you can’t lose your touch,
Oh, No, Baby
It’s much easier than playin in the NFL,
Which no doubt hurts like friggin hell,
It’s friggin luck that you even got to play
So make the most of it before your luck blows the F*** away
You got a role in it , Bosworth,
Yeah, You can be Stone Cold in it, Bosworth
You get paid enough dough to roll in it, Buddy
So just go Stone Cold for it, Dummy

Hahaha! perfect!

Speakman should have had a bigger career too.
Thanks Norbert! Glad you're still enjoying my nonsense. :p
Time truly does destroy all things. Sad, But True.
Yeah I think about it all the time. Thanks Gaspar Noe!!! 😂😂🥲
I don't even remember what it was called in Spanish 😂
I should look it up. American movies rarely have a title which is a direct translation in Spanish. They always come up wiyh creative names for them 😂
I should also rewatch it now but in English but been living in the Netherlands for like almost half my live now. Need to see where I can find it here.
I remember liking the movie when I saw it.
Brilliant moive night!!
Another theater I saw movies at!!!!! small world.
I'm 49. You might have a year or two on me
That Stallone/Billy Dee movie Night Hawks has a rap album named after it with roughly the same concept as the film
