- Today in the Soviet Union we are going to be revisiting the Right Opposition's peaceful Coup d'etat, in the past I've talked about why you shouldn't do it at all, but this time we are going to give it a fair chance.
We will see what's good about the coup, where it shines and where it falls flat in comparison to the civil war. From the leader of the Beria Boys, NKVD Heads and generals the USSR will be completely transformed from the inside out by the time we are done.

I have said before that my opinion has changed, but expecting anyone to remember that when it's sandwiched into other videos is kinda unreasonable on my end. So here I am doing this now, which worked rather well with the schedule I'm on this week.

What happened?
There is a mod which fixes all these issues in a balanced way, its on steam workshop called "SovietCoup+". In which if you do the NKVD focus, it guarantees the coup to succeed. Dissent in party focus allows sending advisors abroad to save them from purge (they come back when coup is over). It also adds special decision to get rid of all Stalin-era debuffs in 1 year. No need to wait for Paradox anymore to fix this 2 year+ bug.

Paradox only fixes bugs that resilt in fun for the player. (They just killed the superheavy brigade tanks.)

I generally prefer the coup since getting all the generals is very,very strong combined with the NEP

@@SequreContainProtect honestly i just take the paranoia unless its something about the navy , its better to get more paranoia than a debuff on army or airforce

I think that generals while replacable can be incredibly usefull so thats thats main reason why i do coup
Indeed. Sure you can always train fresh generals, but losing good ones that are available from the start always deprives you of some advantages.

I don't understand why they didn't fix it. It's literally 3 lines of script in 1 file. I remember when i find out about this in my run, i just open files, add 3 lines, 5 minutes, then continue my game.
Also i played a lot with the coup and i never saw its failing, for 20 games in the row.

So after you do that all negative effects will be removed when you assassinate stalin.

I love the USSR paths, but I do think it should be a bit easier to do the focuses saving people. As is, I'm pretty sure it's impossible for Left Opposition to do all the saving people focuses before everyone is purged, same with the right. It shouldn't be easy to do, but it also shouldn't be impossible either.
Two bug/exploit fixes will change the coup and also civil war balances.
1. fix the bug and allow the removal of the debuffs
2. Fix the exploit that allows you to keep your stockpile by sending it in lend lease
Do those two things and it vastly improves many focus trees, especially the Soviet coup. You wont be able to get easy civil wars for nothing making civil war focuses actually matter and you also have options on if the civil wars are worth it.
I wonder how Arms Against Tyranny will effect a lot of the civil war paths.
Given how Lend Lease rules currently mean the democracies and non-aligned have to hold back until world tension rises to intervene (unless they have a focus which bypasses World Tension requirements) if no such rule exists on the new weapon sales mechanic perhaps this could make for some interesting exploits.

I just added a new bug report to complain about this MILITARY THINKING BANNED bug on soviet right and was banned from the forums as of 10/2/2023 with no explanation or reason.
there must be therefore a way to see the roll before continuing the game within the file right?

What's the point of return democracy to the party? All it does is make you lose stability and political power gain which can out way the benefits of more advisers.
You can use the advisors of both Opposition paths

Could you make an Soviet Union Leader/Politcal Advisor rank list. .I know you have videos about them but an offical ranking could show a better focus/time ratio in SOV tree

I like soviet union but this path is to long maybe they can make it 35 days, is the best way to play soviet union they should change something the focus tree is big and 70 days is too much.
Maybe paradox didnt fix it, because its not a bug. Just the price you pay for not doibg the civil war
yes, because in public and staff eyes, rykov or bukharin all are stalin but looke different, yet they are less scary but like still tyrants, and only stalin could get rid of his own rules
Show a run where coup fails, but instead of restarting show gameplay after that

You can prevent the first Moscow trial with only one of the military focuses.
And all that will accomplish is speeding up the military conspiracy, like I said you totally can but saving generals to most people is the whole point.
@@BubblesZest you can time it so it cancels the decision, rather than do it early, which would ultimately speed it up.

I think we're talking about two different things, I tested it myself and even with diverting attention towards to the military; the military conspiracy fired before a coup could happen. (Assuming you Align the Zinovyevites) Cause you add the extra 210 days.
If you're talking about saving Grigory Sokolnikov only I guess it could work.
@@BubblesZest I'm talking about not alligning the zinovyevites. One of the military related focus (I don't remember if it was support from the military or divert attention) makes the decision "first moscow trial" which is one of the stalin's "counter" decisions not fire, it's in the conditions if you hover over it. Since this purge is a 70 day focus you can time it so the conditions no longer meet 2-3 days before it finishes and it will cancel, saving some of your political advisors.
Edit: Divert attention towards the military, it's on the focus description!
@@solidkuroko2926 If assassinating, It's important to consider the right branch a RACE to the coup before you run out of PP/paranoia-capped while dodging the "military thinking banned".
Unless one has already been purged by a random event, Stalin always purges these same advisors in the 1st trial:
Grigory Zinovyev, Lev Kamenev, Ivan Smirnov, Grigory Sokolnikov, and Aleksandr Shlyapnikov
You are right, "Divert Attention to the Military" will save them all (substituting with a random mil purge - including a possible thinking banned event). But the cost/benefit here is hard to swallow. The only one who is aligned-right is Sokolnikov. He is pretty good!, (but not at the cost of 35 days and a potential thinking banned debuff).
Out of the other 4 guys: two of them Smirnov and Shlyapnikov are consildered left, you need at least 140 extra focus days plus a 5% PP factionalism debuff (skipping the guys in prison) prior to the coup to unlock "Return Democracy to the party".
The other two guys: Zinovyev, and Kamenev are the guys in prison. Sending them into exile will cost an additional 140 days of focus time plus another 5% permanent PP factionalism debuff. On top of this "Return Democracy to the party" costs 70 days and comes with yet a 3rd 5% permanent PP debuff (15% total). Alternatively, if you take "Enemies of the State" all 4 of these guys go bye-bye and you get your PP factionalism debuff removed.
The PP factionalism debuff is not the important part, its the extra 280 days. During that time, he's slaughters relentlessly. You'll be lucky to have less than 3 permanent debuffs, no decent generals left, and you'll be very near your 4th trial (which always kills Bukharin , Rykov and Tomsky, if by some miracle they are still alive).
Obviously, its just a game , there's no right or wrong way to play :) Just my opinion, if assassinating, there's no time for any of the moderates or left (or POUM) because of the perma-debuff bug.
