    4:15 It means that the farmlands were privatley owned but heavily regulated and unionized as to ensure that the workers still had control over the land. If you want to learn more, I'd recommend reading the New Economic Policy. It was originally implemented by Lenin after the Civil war to help stimulate growth and then removed by Stalin (Trotsky supported planned economies as well) in favor of the planned economies which allowed for rapid development of heavy industry.

      @@Makarosc Long Answer inbound. The TL;DR is not quite. They have differing economic and political frameworks, but similar ideas.
      Long Answer:
      Market Socialism still uses the capitalist framework of large private sectors with varying degrees of regulation. The NEP used by the Soviets required a much larger public sector than that of Market Socialism. It's also meant as a temporary solution. It was implemented after the civil war, because Lenin himself recognized that if capitalism is controlled by the working class, it can be used for a swifter recovery than an immediate transition into planned economies. However, Stalin moved away from the NEP and into planned economies because even though the NEP was providing a successful recovery, it was not industrializing fast enough.
      "We are fifty or a hundred years behind the advanced countries. We must make good this distance in ten years. Either we do it, or they will crush us." - Stalin's 1931 speech "The Tasks of Economic Executives (marx2mao.com/Stalin/TEE31.html). The Third Reich launched Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Ten years after the prediction.
      Market Socialism also does not require a the proletariat, or any subdivision of the working class, to hold a class dictatorship, whereas the NEP does. Class dictatorship in this sense means which economic class is running the government. In Marxist frameworks it's the working class, where as in capitalist and non-Marxist Socialism, it's the capitalists and "petite bourgeoise".

    Stuff aside, I think you can actually prevent a civil war without exploits in the right opposition path
    There's a focus where it gives you a decision that has 50% chance to assassinate Stalin (80% if you get NKVD support), in which Beria then succeeds him
    After that, the coup d'etat focus would instead replace Beria with Bukharin without needing a civil war
    Edit: Also, the exploit Feedback used is actually a bug where if you don't click anything on an event pop up, it won't give any effects after the pop up expires. It may work on basically any event, including those in mods, not just the vanilla Soviet Civil War.

      @@gabelol9987 Not the civil war part but 2 things are RNG. First is who and what Stalin will purge, though you can protect some people at the cost of PP and Stalin's paranoia increase. Purges from "Stalin's Focuses" however cannot be prevented so timer is ticking if you want to save some people (I think Zinoviev and a few others). The second RNG is the result of Stalin assassination plot. You have higher chance if you manage to finish the NKVD focus, but even then it is still RNG and has no guarantee that it will be successful.
      If you are successful in assassination of Stalin, it doesn't save you from civil war just yet. Beriya still have the paranoia level increase if you do certain things and focuses. However once Stalin is gone, finishing the Coup d'etat focus will result in Beriya getting arrested instead of the civil war and you can get whoever you want (Bukharin, Rykov, or Zinoviev) in power.

    Bukharin was a proponent of the New Economic Policy, which was a carefully crafted injection of capitalism and markets into the Soviet Union. Something that Deng would adopt for China later on. Stalin would adopt the collectivization of the farmers instead. Bukharin was considered on the right (within the party) because of this and some of his other thoughts. Also was considered the heir to Lenin until Stalin used him to win support away from Trotsky and Bukharin himself.

  • @ben9583_
    @ben9583_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    For context about the right opposition, yes, Bukharin supported giving more autonomy to the farmers. During the Russian Civil War, Lenin implemented the "New Economic Policy", which implemented some limited forms of capitalism for farmers. This was because the civil war devastated Russia and agricultural production had plummeted. It actually stuck around until 1928 when Stalin eliminated it. There were powerful figures like Bukharin who thought it should have stayed, until Stalin eliminated them as well.

    Basically the Right Opposition was an anti stalinist movement to return to both the NEP and stop collectivisation, think of modern day chinese economics or yugoslav economics where the state controls a small important aspect but leaves the rest to the market. In Hoi4 this translates to less consumer goods, because state resources are no longer being used for all of management

  • @x999uuu1
    @x999uuu1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    From what I understand anyways, the Right Opposition was a particular subset of soviet leadership after lenin died. It was represented, as it is in game, by Bukharin and Rykov. It was called that as it was the more "right wing" (still very communist) side of Marxist leninist thought.
    The Right Opposition wanted a continuation of the NEP established in 1921 under Lenin and taken away by Stalin in 1927. They believed that the soviet union was too agrarian and the industrial proletariat too small to actually achieve socialism, so allowing small scale private enterprise back as opposed to a top down centrally planned economy would help kickstart industrial development and eventually "grow into" socialism. Keep in mind, when the NEP was first introduced, it was a compromise the bolsheviks did to restart the absolutely devastated soviet economy after the civil war. The Rights just saw it as the true way forward instead of a bandage.
    This is in opposition to the collectivization and five year plans the rest of the party wanted.
    If all of this sounds familiar, it's because China would end up doing something similar under Deng Xiaoping in the 1970s. Which is to say that the obstensively communist nation of China is clearly a state capitalist one nowadays. (This is why stalin and the rest of the party didn't like the NEP btw, with Trotsky fearing it would just lead down to capitalism)
    I think if this happened to the USSR in real life then they would have ended up something like modern China today. Definitely a higher quality of life than the actual USSR gave to its citizens anyways.

    In very simple terms, the split in the CPSU was the three camps shown in game, the right opposition led by Bukharin believed that the USSR was not ready to move towards socialism because of its relatively undeveloped industry so the USSR should continue the NEP. The Left opposition led by Trotsky argued that Stalin and the current leadership were not moving fast enough towards socialism and should speed up programmes such as Collectivisation and mass industrialisation. The centre led by Stalin argued for, well, a middle ground between the two collectivisation and industrialisation should continue at the current moderate pace. The purge was triggered by a few factors, one being that within a leninist party these factions should have basically shut up after the party voted for Stalins view, there is also arguably trustable documents from leading right and left opposition members showing that they were conspiring against the party, there was also evidence of industrial sabotage supposedly conducted by Trotskists and Bukharinite. But one of the most major triggers was the assasination of Sergei Kirov

    About the curtailment of the farms and the debates inside the bolchevik party which are actually fascinating ; Boukahrin's stance was that Russia was too backward and rural to directly implement a full collectivized economy. The workers and the peasants had to work together and hence the worker's party should'nt impose a collectivized economy to a peasantry that just had gained the owned ownership of the land (1917 you know) nor impose drastic quotas on the farmers and use the capital to develop the industry (which is actually how the USSR industrialized so quickly IRL).
    Basicaly it meant that the soviet economy was meant to grow at a slower yet more human pace. It also meant securing democracy inside and outside the party, even thought that depends which member of the right opposition you are talking about. Tomski for instance was more prone towards independant trades union even thought he played its part in muzzling them.
    In contrast Trosky's platform was one of general regimentation of the workers and the peasantry, fast industrialisation and development to make Russia an active beacon of socialism that might spure and support the revolution throughout the world. He got wierldy allied with what used to be called the "worker's opposition" (because some of its members were actually real wokers such as Chiaplakov in contrast with the many journalist, lawyers, and other petit bourgeois ascent that ruled the party) that denounced the bolchevik's bureaucratics manners, the fadding of the soviets and trade union powers, but that was merely tactic.
    If I had to choose back then i would have went with Boukarhin tbh.

    The Right Opposition basically wanted to take the Soviet Union back to the "New Economic Policy", a policy enacted by Lenin as an emergency measure to allow the Bolsheviks to fight against the Whites and to create the economic conditions for a "proper" economic revolution. The NEP was more or less capitalism for smaller industries, but with a lot of oversight and active support for trade unions. Farms were privately owned by peasants, who were asked to pay a portion of their harvests as taxes (it wasn't an insane amount, though - the farms kept a reasonable amount for themselves to do with as they pleased, and they knew ahead of time how much they'd need to surrender to the government). You almost could say the Right Opposition weren't even really communists, much in the same way you'd say the PRC isn't really a communist country (which is funny because Deng Xiaoping was reported as having praised the NEP as "probably" the "most correct form of socialism").

    • @tongtong4077
      @tongtong4077 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The NEP was enacted by Lenin after the civil war to allow the country to recover before starting the collectivization, its not an emergency war measure. The war policies were actually seen as quite brutal by the farmers, hence the need for the NEP, the farmers needed some breathing room.

    Avoiding the civil war is neat, but Your economy is not as good as you think it is. 12:13 In Jan 1940 you have 186 factories? that's nothing- With the centre path you can reach 282 factories by Febuary of 1940 (I loaded some saves of my game to compare) The key is to rush collectivization process for the 5% construction bonus, then while doing the purges move towards the foreign experts designer focus. A fully upgraded Gosproyektstroy gives 10% extra efficeiency cap, -5% consumer goods, +5% military factory construction speed, and +10% civilian factory speed. Combine those with the Captain of industry advisor, and building civs in max infrastructure states makes you Truly massive. much bigger then the right opposition. By the time the germans declared war on me in that save, I had 386 factories to Germany's 344.
