Restoring our Oceans: How TURF+Reserves Help Fishing Communities

Near-shore fishing communities around the world have relied on fishing as a reliable livelihood for generations. But today’s fishers are no longer assured they can feed their families, or that future generations will be able to fish. Because near-shore fisheries are often poorly managed, or not managed at all, fishers can feel powerless to reverse the trend of declining fish stocks in their fisheries.
There is a fisheries management approach that can help fishers reverse this trend, it’s called a TURF + Reserve. This video describes how TURF + Reserves are designed to specifically to address the impact of overfishing on nearshore fisheries and support fishers and fish to thrive.
