The moment he realizes the knee-high wall wasn't built to keep monsters out or livestock in, but to keep him from going to unfinished parts of the map. If only the npcs learned to build them around their homes to keep adventurers from looting them.

The worst part is that these games often exclude jumping in order to make environment design easier. They don't have to worry about the player going places they "aren't supposed to" and can easily funnel you into the direction they want, even if they fill the world with objects you could easily jump/climb over if you were physically in the world.

The embarrassment and frustration of not being able to jump was hilarious spot on. I loved the snake and the fact that it was clearly just a sock puppet. There is a certain charm to your production style. A wholesome kind of cheese. It was fun seeing the old man show zero empathy for your character "dying" and just pure glee at getting his venom ointment for free. This was a well written and executed story.

@@idontdovarioustasks Yes he did. Which is why I wrote dying with quotes around it. We saw him wake up. But the old man didn't. From his perspective, he died inside the snake and he got snake venom for free.

And for a good product, too. I don't think it's the same brand but I have one that's a similar design. Far more comfortable than a normal blindfold. Having no pressure on the eyelid itself is really nice.
Alternatively, when a game doesn't let you jump outside of combat but in combat you can basically fly around.
IE FF7 Remake and Rebirth where the skies are yours in combat but outside of combat a small barrier hinders you.
Rebirth has something *close* to a jump button but nothing like combat!

I was half expecting him to use a combat skill that "leaps" at the target, but only works in combat against a viable target. But then we wouldn't have that seamless ad transition.

I play games for fun and escapism, not boring realism - part of my escapism and joy involves the opportunity to run and jump wherever I want without consequence.

I was so ready for a battle QTE that made him jump dodge or something. Him just getting eaten was good though.
Now that is some amazing timing. I just played Deus Ex: The Fall today and was taken aback by the inability to jump. You can augment your legs but you can't jump?! I guess the protagonist skipped leg day.
If I’m controlling a character and can’t spam the jump button constantly I don’t want to play the game. I don’t walk or run a anywhere, i only jump. Idk why but I’ve been this way since I was a kid in the 90’s.

Whenever I want, I can do it now even. Ankle high obtrusions can be stepped over or jumped over because I dont have a rigid limited walk cycle with hitboxes and collisions to balance. Its almost like I can compensate for this stuff in real life just by stepping higher or wider, but have only one button to do it in a video game. And if you don't have that option, like you do in real life, you get kinda mad about tiny paths that don't work because its a single pixel too high.
If its a game about exploration, or a game that demands navagating terrain of any sort, you HAVE to be able to jump or at least climb obstacles.

Imagine you could only jump when performing some attack movesets.
Funny thing is, in DS2 I used to use one of the heavy weapon power attacks to get over small gaps. It was slightly more reliable than attempting to jump.
Should've asked the old man to jump the wall, thus unlocking the ability for yourself, or laugh as he fails. Whichever.

I have to assume that sock puppets are not common as a business expense.
I expected the player to have a jumping attack because in some game you can't jump, but for some reason you can do attack that make the character jump x)
Dude I got my friend to play Outward yesterday. First thing he complained about is we cannot jump. So funny you release this video today
When the character cant jump by default, BUT some special moves include a jump, which wont let jump jump over or across.
Monster Hunter and Demon Souls series until 5(when they finally make a dedicated high jump button).
My favorite "jump story" about video games my younger siblings were playing Kingdom Hearts and fighting the Chernabog from Fantasia, couldn't beat him. I hadn't played the game but offered to try. You need to fly to fight him. I asked "How do you jump?" Still cracks me up. I beat him on my first try lmao

Oblivion ruined me with the acrobatics stat. Now i feel the uncontrollable urge to jump constantly in any game where it doesnt slow my movement down, and even then its still a toss up. I must jump

The manta masks are good, but expensive. I used one when I broke my leg last year and had to stay at a nursing facility for 3 months. I think I got mine on amazon for like $50 or something like that.

Jumping and crouchwalking are things we rarely do in real life but when we can't do them in a simulation it just feels like we're rigid.
I jumped yesterday. I also don't need to jump, but did so to save myself time walking around to the stairs. As for crouch walking, I don't need to sneak up on anybody fortunately.
