      Marc Aurele: Your comment is amazing here it is in English: Lancaster and Cardinale will remain forever associated with this exceptional moment of cinema: the sublime beauty of Claudia Cardinale, the elegance of Burt Lancaster, the magnificence of the palace, the tension in the eyes of the spectators: disillusioned jealousy of the neglected wife and sadness of the ignored girl, envy of the groom towards this splendid old uncle. admiration of the guests in front of this couple of dancers who realize the meeting of two worlds, one ending, the other taking possession of society. Beyond the breathtaking formal beauty, Visconti casts a sharp, cruel gaze on the world, and in a few images makes a psychological and sociological analysis of incredible efficiency and finesse. A great moment in the cinema of this bygone era. Italian cinema remains a nostalgia for those who love it ...

Magnifica scena.

      Jessica Lombardi's comment In English: n circular dance like the life that passes, like the new classes that dominate and put aside the old ones. It is one of the most significant dances in the history of cinema. Verdian music chosen not by chance by the master Visconti. That resignation of Prince Salina feels even stronger than at the end. This scene was set in one of the most important and beautiful noble residences in Palermo, which is Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi. Several other scenes were shot on the outskirts of Palermo, in Ciminna, that is “Donnafugata” in the movie. Another small town linked to The Leopard is Santa Margherita Belice, near Agrigento, with its Leopard Museum located inside the Filangeri-Cutò Palace, the monumental structure that was taken as a source of inspiration by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, the writer of the novel.

    I had the privilege of seeing this masterful work of Visconti. It was in Cine Brasilia, I think in the 1990s. The cinema was crowded. The director was a reference of the art films and had a faithful audience, formed by intellectuals, lovers of the seventh art and students. Visconti, though an aristocrat, was affiliated with the Communist Party and fought Nazi-fascism in World War II. The story of The Leopard reminds me of Anton Chekhov in The Cherry Garden. Both speak of the decadence of the aristocracy. The difference is that Visconti treats the subject with sarcasm.

Quelli li praticavano i campieri.

      Il nonno di Angelica era chiamato Peppe M. (Non Pino).

    I wish we'd had a character study of Angelica. Claudia Cardinale makes her vulgar, sexy, powerful as a leopard in her own right. Still, the movie belongs to Burt Lancaster, who looks *magnificent* and moves beautifully (sigh).
    ......Concetta, get over it. Your mooning over a man who doesn't even notice you and only initially saw you as a tool to further himself is just sad.

    • @aumenarys
      @aumenarys 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well... No... I believe Burt Lancaster, being an American, said his line in English; Alain Delon, being a French, said his line in French; as for Claudia Cardinale I don't know, even though it seems in this clip that she's not speaking Italian, despite the fact that she is Italian. She was actually dubbed because Visconti didn't like her voice. If you watch the film in English you will hear Lancaster's voice, if you watch it in French, you will hear Delon's voice and Cardinale's voice (she can speak French). As for the other cast, most of them, if not all, are Italian so we are probably hearing their own voice in this clip (or dubbed in Italian because Visconti didn't like their voices too).

    • @gahel1643
      @gahel1643 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      aumenarys yes even though Cardinale was born in an Italian family, she's actually a French native speaker as she was born and raised in Tunis, then a French protectorate. She had to learn Italian afterwards, if I'm not wrong, and when she was filming the Leopard Visconti considered her Italian still to rough to have her speaking Italian onset, that's another reason why she was dubbed in the Italian version besides her 'dark' natural voice

    • @belgravia85
      @belgravia85 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      all true. Her parents were Sicilian, so she spoke French and Sicilian at home. She needed to polish her Italian quite a lot during her first years. And her original name was CLaude, not Claudia. Moreover, her voice has always been quite rough and deep. You might say even masculine in a way. Not sure if she ever smoked or if it's her natural voice.

    • @Manelfollon
