Two producers took jobs at two different Food Lion stores, with hidden cameras, and based on the footage shown, seemed to have captured breathtaking violations of health codes in reprocessing and dressing up expired deli meats to sell to the customers, cheese being nibbled by rats and the like. Food Lion sued ABC for trespass and fraud, on the basis that the producers had lied on their resumes to get the jobs, and also claimed that the footage shown had been selectively edited, and that most of the 45 hours of raw videotape actually showed the company being scrupulous in following the law. Despite using that argument, Food Lion did not sue for libel or defamation, which ABC said was an "end run around the First Amendment." The case was found in Food Lion's favor in December 1996, and ABC was ordered to pay $5.5 million. The judge reduced the award to $316,000, but ABC, now owned by Disney, appealed the case. In October 1999, an appellate court reversed the decision, saying that since Food Lion was not officially contesting the truth of ABC's report, fraud did not occur. The court did find breach of loyalty and trespass had occurred and awarded Food Lion a nominal $2 fine. While part of Food Lion's response to the ABC report is here on TH-cam, the original broadcast is not, and nor can I find a transcript of it on LexisNexis.
I saw him in person once in the 80’s. This is closer to his actual personality. His personality is actually a little more serious. When people wanted a picture he was very professional and flashed that famous smile in the picture. He was on vacation, but he made time for people who wanted a picture with him.
Not to mention you're not gonna get the happiest go lucky version of Magic when harassing the guy on vacation but good on him for taking pictures with fans on personal time. Jordan woulda told them to jump in a lake
I was 14 when he made the announcement...1 of 3 times I cried in my life as a teen/adult. He is my GOAT nba player and I'm happy he is still alive and living a hell of a life.
I consider him above even Jordan when it comes to the GOAT discussion. He had a longer track record of making his team better. Right out of the gate, his rookie season he took an okay Lakers team right to the title. They were consistently the best team in the NBA for the entire decade of Magic’s prime because of him. Michael was great, but he couldn’t get out of the first round his first 3 years, while Magic won 2 world titles in his first 3 years in the league. And his charitable contributions to LA and the Black community through his foundation have been unquestionable. If someone calls Magic the GOAT, I could honestly not dispute that. Because he is on that level.
This is when NBA players are unfiltered and authentic. Nowadays players have managers, publicists, production teams...etc try to control the narrative and calculate on every word they utter. The audience get a huge PR piece and feel disconnected with the player. I miss this kind of genuine one-on-one interviews.

Most enjoyment I ever had in a now fairly long life of watching sports was watching Magic run the Lakers offense. The passing of course, but also that he worked at his game. You could easily see that he improved his scoring game and got a powerful build to go inside
