If Britain is to become a republic it should become a Constitutional Republic with an elected president as Head of State and Head of Government. The Westminster Parliamentary form of government (such as used in Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and most republics in Continental Europe). As has been seen in Canada a Prime Minister can effectively hold the country hostage and cling onto power even when the majority of people want an election and the Governor-general is a powerless appointee of the PM. Britain should become a presidential republic with the President and Vice-president being elected by Direct Popular Vote and a Congress (House of Representatives and Senate) being the national legislature separate from the Executive Branch (President and VP) and being a Check and Balance on one another. Successful presidential republics are (South Korea, Cyprus, Uruguay, Argentina, and the U.S.). Only a Constitutional Republic with a proper Bill of Rights can protect Britons and safeguard their rights. Alternatively Britain could draft a constitution similar to Lichtenstein and give the King actual executive powers that could provide a check on Parliament instead of the King just being a useless figurehead as he is now.
Britain would do well to follow the Australian model, House Of Representatives and Senate, both publicly elected. The House Of Representatives has members representing regions around the country determined on a plus-or-minus set figure of population within an electorate while the Senate's members represent the states and territories as a whole. That's the simplest explanation. It goes much deeper and further, but for this you'd need to google *The Australian Constitution,* itself an outdated document that needs a severe overhaul.
The Royal institutions do appear to be a problem for British democracy, but what about the City of London? Codified processes are well and good, but that doesn't mean a thing when capital controls the political processes and selects the puppets for which the people vote. Sure, the Royal institutions help facilitate this democratic farce, but the real power is obvious. The City of London has its own Council, Mayor, and its own laws; and even the King must ask permission before entering the City of London. Taking a single brick (Royals) out of this Jenga puzzle may weaken the threat to democracy, but it will not resolve the problem.
If the UK would ever try to develop a written constitution or just to write down in a short and clear form what today is meant when they use the word constitution, the system would simply implode.

In terms of the monarchy, here posts a Republican. However as we require an upper house, to allow the electorate to elect such a house would be as neglect of educational understanding as that of electing people to the Commons. An appointed upper house, free from Commons participation, laced with stringent rules which carry prison sentences for corruption, is the correct way to traverse.
our military would never turn there guns on there own families, friends and the general public, a few sycophants within the military might but that would incite a civil war, I think the government would get a shock if they tried to do this. given the hatred against the present government and politicians in general the people just might burn Westminster to the ground, dark days ahead for the UK.
From a purely constituional perspective we are no longer a monarchy already. Ambitious and corrupt politicians cannot be restrained by the Law, let alone constitutional law, because we have lost an independent House of Lords, and without the House of Lords the King's ability to intervene is virtually nil. So while I agree with everyone who says the monarchy no longer works and we need a written constitution, the nub of the problem is the monarchy's lack of power not its existence. Republicans think everything will be better without a monarch - but god knows why when you look at most republics. Effective constraints on ineptand treacherous politicians iswhat we need, and a mere pice of paper will not achieve that without some entity to ENFORCE it. If there is a better solution than a monarch I don't know what it is, but DEFINING their responsibilities in a written consititution ought to be part of the solution.
You not have to put up csndidates to change it should be a referendum put to the people nationwide the medieval english parliament want the class ridden status quo.

This stupid argument, faithfully parroted without any kind of critical consideration is particularly worthless for two reasons: 1) *Any* president appropriately limited in power by the constitution is superior to any monarch because they have been voted *in* - and therefore can be voted *out* . 2) As a proponent of the hereditary principle, the monarchist has to accept that the fate of genetics guarantees the eventual emergence of a monarch **far worse** than Starmer, say an Edward VIII or a William V.
@@britishproudvanman3082 Here we see panicked monarchist defence 11e "yOuR a lEfTisT!1!” This stupid argument, faithfully parroted without any kind of critical consideration is particularly worthless for two reasons: 1) The monarchy fatally undermines our democracy. One of the pillars of free market capitalism is a healthy and functional democracy. Any genuine free-market conservative will oppose the monarchy. 2) In terms of what the monarchy does, it very, very successfully allows those with power and influence to put up barriers to entry to the free market for any competitors. It is a tool of oligarchs, not genuine capitalists. The propagandists *love* this stupid argument, because it fulfils the fundamental stratagem of ‘divide and rule’. I would love to hear some of your perspectives!

I've been saying this for many. Years.
Oceania has always/never been at war with Eurasia/Eastasia > UK subjects are serfs in Airstrip One colony
I read history, nothing changes regardless.
But Aussies still bow to the monarchy so they are still long distance serfs. Hahaha
The meek shall inherit the earth.

This stupid argument, faithfully parroted without any kind of critical consideration is particularly worthless for two reasons:
1) *Any* president appropriately limited in power by the constitution is superior to any monarch because they have been voted *in* - and therefore can be voted *out* .
2) As a proponent of the hereditary principle, the monarchist has to accept that the fate of genetics guarantees the eventual emergence of a monarch **far worse** than Starmer, say an Edward VIII or a William V.

@@britishproudvanman3082 Here we see panicked monarchist defence 11e "yOuR a lEfTisT!1!”
This stupid argument, faithfully parroted without any kind of critical consideration is particularly worthless for two reasons:
1) The monarchy fatally undermines our democracy.
Anyone parroting it is either a propagandist or a useful tool.
Having a president instead of King won't make anything better, that simply means more politics, and right now there's enough of that.
