What I think is even more amazing than the high tunnels is that You and Wanda put these together YOURSELVES. I could be a good helper. But, NO WAY I could do that. My husband doesn't have a mechanical or DIY bone in his body either. THIS is a skill that someone could make a lot of $$$ from. Going around setting up and building peoples Greenhouses and High Tunnels!!

Good morning Danny and Wanda. Thanks for the tip on broccoli leaves. Broccoli is a favorite here. I like to use vegetable powders in hamburgers and meatloaf to get some more nutrients in them and it disguises it for the 3 in our large family that are picky eaters🤪

My sweet husband ordered me a greenhouse from Growers Solutions. We should have it by the end of February or first part of March.
I have COPD (nonsmoker) and I’m on oxygen so truth be told it’s “our” greenhouse. I get out there with my portable Inogen. He does the heavy stuff. I’m good at germinating plants and tending and harvesting, but being in Alabama the heat can be a lot.
We truly appreciate all of your valuable information and advice. I don’t miss a post with you and Wanda. ❤️

I especially appreciate your sharing of what you feed to the rabbits and the nitty gritty details of how you manage that (ie: give them one broccoli plant at a time once they finished the broccoli they had. Harvest the broccoli only at the time of giving it to the rabbits).

I just received my 10x24 greenhouse from Growers Solution this past week. I chose to include the roll-up sides as well as the "end caps" to receive doors. I also ordered the 40% black shade cloth. So excited to get it up when the spring thaw and warmer weather comes! BUT I will probably wished I had ordered a larger one. Do have the space for another one or two or more down the road! Thank you Danny and Wanda for all of your terrific wisdom and advice!

I love this in depth updated review, its very informative and helpful. If I already had the land I would want one like the black shaded one only in a gothic style. Thanks to your videos, when the time comes I will know pretty much what to get. Also, fantastic job editing this one Wanda. Especially the opening. The music and everything fit really nicely together and you transitioned away from the opening correctly. It was seamless and not awkward. I know how tedious and much work it takes to do that

It's interesting that the effects of the shade cloth are counter-intuitive; I would have expected the black to be hotter in summer, so very interesting to find that's not the case! I just wish we could have one - but probably wouldn't be able to utilize it as it should be, given our age and health issues. I'd love to have someone set one up on our property - we certainly have plenty of level ground!

Hi Danny, I can't afford or be able to put up a high tunnel where I live. Would a low tunnel or mini greenhouses over raised beds work about the same? What would be the best covering for them? Thanks

Anything is better than nothing. Greenhouse plastic for sure. You can get shade cloths from Lowes.

Just i can't afford one either just yet. I'll tell you what I did until I can save enough money to buy one. I collected old trampolines, 14' and got boat pallets (think LARGE pallets) free from the local boat and jetski store. I used 1/2 of 6 trampoline "rings" to make the ceiling/ walls for a total of 36 feet in length, and 14 feet in width, 7 feet in height. I disassembled the pallets to reassemble to use for support for the walls and the ends, and a sort of support for the ceiling, and also to assemble the raised beds inside of it. I did invest money in the greenhouse plastic and all of the screws, rebar to anchor, etc and such. I upcycled an old screen door, exhaust fan, etc. Filled the raised beds with fallen leaves, chicken coop waste, cut grass, cardboard, kitchen scraps, etc. Lined the walkways with free mulch from a tree service. It's not heated, but it does extend my growing season by about 3 to 4 months. Where there's a will there's a way. I can't WAIT until I can afford a proper high tunnel, but until then, I'm making this work.

@@DeepSouthHomestead thankyou!! I had another question. Wasn’t sure if you covered it but how do y’all treat fire ants? I have several mounds in middle Tennessee

@@nicolearroyo4577 I punch a deep hole in the middle of the mound and pour a little gas in it and cover the hole as the fumes come up through the mound it kills them all. Only thing I found that works.
